Ohio has offered a scholarship to Thornville Sheridan High School offensive tackle Tate Leavitt. The 6-7, 295-pounder also has offers from Kent St., WMU, Toledo and Akron.

Wow, big kid.  If memory serves me correct, his high school coach is also the father of a former Bobcat player.

Rivals shows Verbal to Ohio. Here is his page at 247Sports and at ESPN. He's currently unrated by all the services. I can't find him in the Scout.com database yet.

Welcome, Tate.

The story on the home page says some good things about Leavitt and about the Ohio football program. He also mentioned the new indoor facility. Sounds like a good kid with good character. Hopefully that transfers to the football field!!

Not sure how it compares to the past few years, but so far this year it seems like we're beating out quite a few Mac schools for recruits.  I have to think that the new indoor facility is becoming a big selling point (although many other schools already have them), and of course our recent success and coaching stability always helps.

All of the above....and getting 3 quality o-lineman so far is critical as we lose 2 starters from this years team and 2 more the following year.....but with these 3 we should have at the very least 10 players who should be able to compete for those 4 positions.

Very nice interview. Thanks for the link. It's obvious he's a mature kid, and has a good head on his shoulders, besides his physical ability. I think he'll be a great addition to the program.

Good stuff.  Being an OU sportsnutt I always thought I'd hear basketball tradition....but for all the down years we had in football I never thought I'd hear "I picked OU because of their football tradition."  Tate and the guy doin the interview both said that.

He said he signed a "letter of committ"....I guess there is one of those.  Also from this interview was his mention of a redshirt and that he may be the last offensive lineman of this class.

The thing he didn't mention, continuity, kind of blends into the concept of "tradition". If a kid picks a MAC school, there are only a couple schools where the coaching staff is likely to be largely the same by the Senior year.  At most MAC schools it seems that the average coaching stay is about 3 years. Some get fired, others move to another program. At Ohio, Solich isn't likely t be fired, and he isn't likely to move to another school. It's possible that he might retire, if he stops having fun (how likely is that), but even if he does, I would expect the next coach to be an inside hire, trying to keep continuity. The only other school with comparable continuity is WMU.

The last inside hire didn't work.  I'm not sayin that a future one won't...yet the last one is connected with a verb...we got Knorred.

That "inside hire" was not a normal situation because it did not retain continuity. In that case, Grobe left, taking virtually the entire staff with him, and Knorr had to build a new staff from scratch. In the event that Solich retires, and picks one of his assistants to replace him, if the others stick around, the program should continue on without major hiccups. The risk as I see it, is that there are three people with the Title "Assistant Head Coach", those being Albin, Burrow, and Gdowski. If Solich retires, only one of those can become "Head Coach", and the other two may leave.

I'm not sure from whence those 3 I'd pick.

My psychic self sez Gdowski and I'm not sure why.

The article on Jordon Thomson linked to on the main pages hits the topic of coaching continuity directly. Thompson credited as the main reason he chose Ohio that Solich "....also told me that Ohio was going to be his last job and I believed him." By contrast, another school that was recruiting him had a coach "on the hot seat" at the time, and has changed coaching staffs a couple times since then.
