We need to add a star QB to this class. We need to have a good competition for next year. I think we have some ok guys, but no stars. Everybody talks about the kid we recruited last year, he averaged 100 yards per game passing.

We don't have a MACC caliber qb who's played for us this year. If none of the guys on the bench are MACC, then, yeah, need to recruit.

It's hard to know exactly what we have with Maxwell. He was a multi-sport athlete on a terrible team. He has the physical tools to be good, but I have no doubt that he needed a redshirt year to learn a lot more about playing QB at the next level. With him able to focus on just one position in just one sport, and getting good coaching, how good will he be? I like his chances, but I agree, I'd like to see at least one QB in each class.

Coaches like Maxwell not so keen on Duckworth (possible move to defense) is the talk I've heard. But this off season is huge for Windham and Sprauge to take over.

I am not sure how much we should expect Coach Isphording to coach up our QB prospects when many of them are recruited as "projects". Vick and Sprague are just minimally better than last year. Vick was very inaccurate at times yesterday, mental errors too.
If we recruit a raw prospect like Maxwell then we better be able to turn him into a starting MAC QB. Duckworth is in his 3rd year and has not seen the field.
Recruiting H.S. QB's who step on campus ready to contend for playing time has not happened in a long time.

Read somewhere Sprague had gotten a step quicker, was looking forward to seeing that, still am.

VIck is one of the most accurate passing Qbs Ohio has had in several years and this is also what the coaches think. If he gets hurt and can guarantee Ohio wont win another game.

Recruiting H.S. quarterbacks that "are ready to contend for playing time" is not the norm, and in fact, very rarely happens. Sometimes Freshmen get thrust in before they are ready. Billy Bahl is already playing at Miami. Is he "ready"? I think not. He may still be their best option, but I have no doubt he would have benefited from a redshirt, and I'm sure that he'll be much better in a couple years than he is today.

VIck is one of the most accurate passing Qbs Ohio has had in several years and this is also what the coaches think. ...

Yesterday was not his best day, but I fully expect him to end this year with the single season record for pass efficiency, and in the top 2 in career pass efficiency, depending on whether he is able to pass Tettleton.

[QUOTE=Paul Graham] Duckworth and Krizancic possibly moving to defense? Wow.

I take what I read here with a grain of salt. Not so long ago there was a post that next year Krizancic would be the starter for sure, then another than said Maxwell would, and Krizancic would be moved to defense. Since I don't know what will happen, I'll just wait and see, but certainly Windham and Sprague will be in the running.

I understand that it is unusual for a true freshman to get playing time at QB. My point is that next year we will have two returning senior QB's that have not been able to separate from the pack.
A redshirt junior who may have a position change and two redshirt freshman. One that may be terrific but is very raw, and another that played 1 year of QB in high school.

Hence my hope that we recruit someone that can push for early P.T.

Go to the record book. Check the QB records. Solich QBs are taking over. Sure the records were not big time, but, still each new Qb seems to be more efficient than the last. That should inspire some trust.

what kind of trust should the last few years of getting blown out---BLOWN OUT--by about every decent MAC team inspire?

Not sure this makes sense after checking the current offensive class breakdown. We currently have 1 RS senior (Vick), 2 RS juniors (Sprague & Windham), 2 RS freshmen Krizancic & Duckworth), and 1 true freshman (Maxwell). That means that next year, barring any transfers in or out, we will have 2 RS seniors, 2 RS sophomores, 1 RS freshman, and hopefully a new freshman.

Exactly. Next year it will be:
Redshirt Seniors: Windham, Sprague
Redshirt Sophomores: Duckworth, Krizancic
Redshirt Freshmen: Maxwell
True Freshman: ???
Who will be the starter? Spring ball will answer that question, hopefully. I hate it when it drags into Fall.

They will get some one who is one star that they say is a good thrower and we will eat it up. We need to find two qb's just in case they mess up on the first one.

Ok, L.C. or someone else help me out here...

As I look at the Football recruiting page, I think I see: We were/are recruiting 25 QBs. Of those, 10 have NO offers (not even from Ohio so I guess we are just interested). A total of 16 have already signed. 13 with the likes of Tennessee, UK (2), Northwestern, Indiana, Kansas St, Okkie St, SMU, Pitt and ODU. We also lost 3 to MAC schools Balls, Emu, and Buffs.

We only have 2 guys left on the board that we've offered. One has an offer from Charlotte and the other has offers from Buffs, Emu, Miami, Utah and WVU.

Does anyone really think this class will have even one really good QB? And, isn't this where it all starts. We just MUST do better at this position! You must get one really good guy (3-stars with 3-5 big time offers) every year!!

Standard is 3 stars with 3-5 big time offers every year!!!!!

Bowling Green, Matt Johnson 3 stars offers from Miami OH & Temple

W Michigan, Zach Terrell 2 stars offers from Illinois State and Kent. Note Yahoo offers Greg Windham, Tampa Fla as a similar QB

CMU, Cooper Rush 2 stars no other offers

NIU, Drew Hare, 2 stars no other offers

Toledo, Phillip Ely, trans from Alabama, 3 stars 9 big offers

Ohio, Derrius Vick, 2 stars offers from Colorado State, N. & S. Dakota States

3 stars with 3-5 big time offers every year. What Ohio University do yo think you are supporting? Wish I had a 32 inch waist too.

Vick's offer from Colorado State was for basketball, he had one other offer for football, If we fail to bring in a good QB next year it will be worst. We have had average QB's for God knows how long, while 10 MAC programs have had very good QB's over the last ten years, it is time for us to get one, not a thrower.

Hey if we win one more, we are bowl eligible. We had a great year, the future looks so bright. We will come back next year and get 6 more wins. We are rolling. We made an average Big ten team respect us. When will this loser mind-state ever end?

It's a really good point that offering is enough. We don't actually have to bring in a pretty fair quarterback.

It's such a good point that no one else would even think to post it.

Casper, I have no idea what is going on in the area of QB recruiting. The recruiting page is Ted's database, which may or may not match the University's data. The fact that a name is on Ted's recruiting page indicates that the coaches were looking at them at one point. Some they decided to make offers to, others they decided not to. If they don't have offers yet, I think we can rule them out. I don't think anyone here wants them to go after someone they don't think can do the job just so that they can add a body to the class.

The recruiting services are also not very helpful in answering your question. For example, here's what the recruiting services know about quarterbacks with offers from Ohio:
http://ohio.247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/Offers
http://tinyurl.com/orqn2r8
http://tinyurl.com/or68b7m
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/recruit-...

Rivals is the only one that shows a QB with an offer from Ohio who has not given a verbal elsewhere. That guy is Isaac Stiebling of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also has an offer from Ball State. I don't believe that Ohio has lost a recruiting battle to Ball State this year:
http://tinyurl.com/p2vz2ed
He's 6'4", 205, so like Maxwell last year, has NFL size.
Here is his Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2558945/isaac-stiebeling

Three other possibilities that come to mind are:
1. They think they have enough quarterbacks, and don't have to have one this year
2. They have a hidden verbal from a quarterback they are impressed with, but they don't want the world to know, so they are keeping him under wraps
3. They didn't get the quarterbacks they wanted (or if they don't get Stiebling), so they plan to go the Junior College route, in which case we probably won't hear about it until signing day. That was the case with both Boo and T3.

I seriously doubt that it is #1, but I have no way of knowing whether #2 or #3 is more likely, nor how strong their interest is in Steibling. It may be a case where we get a signing day surprise, or we can hope it is.
