You can follow me on Twitter: @JEdwar247. I cover football recruiting for Kentucky on 247sports but I am an OU alum so I try keep the Ohio info up-to-date as well.
And you do a great job, too. The 247 page for Ohio is far more up to date than any of the other services.

I haven't heard any fat lady singing. We've stuck with him this long, he can have as long as he needs to decide, and unless and until he says he is going elsewhere i won't write him off.

I hope like hell he comes here! Just guessing based on twitter feeds, new exciting coach, and a really good QB coming back.  I really hope I am wrong.

He might have seen Foster's 21 TDs in this offense balanced by Chase's 18 per catch and Vick's toss to Foster in the bowl. Then there is the chance to play for Dixon. Depends on if after a rough year you can see the glass as half full.

Wow. 9 years into the Solich era and we can't win a recruiting battle with a BG team that just lost their coach.

But no worries guys...I'm sure Solich has a possession receiver with no other offers waiting to scoop up that schollie. Would it help you to know that he has plenty of "heart?"

BG makes more sense than the other non-Ohio offers. When they made the offer the picture became muddy. His timing is good, too. Since he will come in with the new coach, he probably will keep the same coach a few years.

I wish him luck at BG, with the exception of consistent losses to Ohio, of course.

Not that this really matters all that much. And I'd prefer it if we didn't have to go dumpster diving in the alley behind the 'Shoe' to get players....but it just goes to show how little progress we've made in recruiting. I'm sure that getting whipped by MAC East teams 2 consecutive years doesn't help. But really....all this "success" has moved the needle only a few ticks in the last decade. Very disappointing.

Do 18 year old kids really know or care about the name Frank Solich anymore? That's not going to win us many recruiting battles outside of Nebraska.

This is not at all surprising.  If you just boil it down to looking at offensive film of the Bobcats or BG, not the final score.  What offense looks more exciting and diversified to you?  Undecided QB at OHIO or young stud at BG?

Bingo....Auburn may have lost tonight, but their defense attacks (ours is laid back, staid) and their offense has variety (hello two-back sets at times) and is not held back by youth (I think they said that Auburn's o-line starts, at least, a freshman and two juniors).  Auburn's attacking kept them in the game and about had a heavily favored FL State exhausted in the fourth quarter.

Sorry, but I'll say it again:  imagination, smarts and coaching matter.

Oy vey, Monroe. Are you making this argument because you think there are those who believe "imagination, smarts and coaching DON'T matter?

What is your goal?

As I replied on the main thread, yes, it does matter when the Oline is not held back by youth. The Auburn line is remarkably similar to what Ohio was supposed to have had - 4 upperclassmen and a newcomer. Instead Ohio was often playing 5 newcomers.

Next year will be better. They will still be young, but battle tested. The year after that they will be back to a level of experience comparable to Auburn's line this year, and yes, it will make a huge difference.

Plus, you have to remember the level of athlete recruited by Auburn. Their athletes are so talented that theyre able to contribute and play great at an earlier time in their careers.

I saw  90% or more of our plays this year.  Imagination, smarts, coaching lacked.  All the key stats (won/loss record espec in key games....scores....running game on O and on D vs. good teams) and, much more importantly, the eyeballs tell that, yes, we lacked imagination, smarts, coaching.

Unless BUTM ad infinitim is considered imaginative, smart, well-coached.

And, we were so passive on defense.  As usual.

In the mental approach, we were the anti-Auburn.  We did about nothing from a mental standpoint to overcome other teams' physical advantages.

These 65 year old eyeballs just tell me have middle of the road MAC talent, period.  And, I agree, after 9 years i thought we would be way ahead of the MAC in recruiting battles.  If we really are better in recruiting then our coaching staff has lost a step vs the competition.  Probably a bit of both is the reason for the record this year.

I hope we come back with some swagger next year.

If by swagger you mean, rockin' effective play on the field, then I am right there with you.

Casper71, If you expected coach to walk in and recruit like Nebraska I think you doomed yourself to disappointment. Nebraska recruiters have the fifth winningest program all time, 50 bowls, world class facilities, Heisman and Outland trophies, 110 First Team All-Americans, 69 First Team Academic All-Americans, a Rimington Trophy named for a school player. Why should Ohio be way ahead in recruiting battles? It has been nine years and Ohio's facilities are just representative and the IPF is still not finished. Early on coach Solich's staff was dragging around baggage that was Ohio football. They have done well for Ohio through coaching and the hard work of their recruits. Wait, there is another topic that celebrates a first team Freshman All-American from Ohio. He is listed with players from Florida State, Auburn, Ohio State, UCLA, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, Michigan State and Miami of Fla. Wait, there is an Ohio Player catching passes from a Heisman Trophy winner in the pros. Wait, there is an Ohio rookie on the NY Giants roster, really, check it out. Ohio is winning, contending in the MAC, bowling and winning bowls. Ohio has made great strides as a program, but, explain to me why would the expectation be for Ohio to be "way ahead of the MAC?"

Not sure what "dumpster divin" behind the shoe means....but any athletes that are good enough for an OSU offer can damn well come here and play if they are eligible. We SHOULD win MOST MAC recruiting battles at this point and for some reason we are not.

blitz, seems L.C. has established that Ohio is winning most battles. This case, like the QB that went to BC last year was lost for personal reasons. Best wishes to Lewis. Hope BG is a good place to play.
