Most kids want to compete at the highest level possible, even if it means the possibility (or probability) of losing. Most of them are convinced the losing won't continue when they are there.

That's good as long as you are not a fill in and the bigger school wants you and you can earn playing time. I mentioned CJ Hilliard a former Ohio recruit who chose Iowa, he ended up transferring to Ohio after a year. Kids are emotional when they need to be strategic. Go to the school that wants you and will allow you to shine. Tate Leavitt is another guy that comes to mind, he committed to Ohio and did not have the grades. He went to JUCO and was rated the number 8 recruit as far as JUCO's. Tate had offers from Alabama and Kentucky amongst other. He went to kentucky and did not play. Hopefully he play next year, he probably plays here and gets meaningful experience and momentum going into next year. My favorite example is Javon hagan, he turned down two or thee FCS schools and earned freshman all-american. I hope Morgan gets all he wants out of his college choice, going to the bigger school is not always the best decision. Going where a coach really wants you and has plans for you is always a good choice.

There's hope, there's keeping the heartbeat alive that next year will be better.

Then there's asking who's coaching and recruiting and is it realistic to think that the 13th year will be different from the prior years.

I actually thought of Monroe when I saw Ellison's most recent tweet:

Ellison is a tremendous player, hopefully he comes our way. I think we can beat the Indiana and the Purdue's with better QB play. We could have beat a ranked Tennessee with better QB play and we have two good looking QB's coming in. Our defensive backfield should improve as well. If he wants a ring, he needs to come to Ohio. If he wants to play in the B1G, he needs to go to Indiana. Kareem Hunt will be going in the second round this year and I believe Ellison can be better than hunt. The great thing about Ohio is our strength program. AJ improved his 40 by two-tenths. Ian Wells was in the top for all categories as a cornerback. Dorian Brown is down to a 4.4 We will have him ready for the NFL, God-willing.

Are you suggesting that Monroe convinced him to go elsewhere? I suppose that's possible, and while that is the only reason that I can think of that Monroe would be MACC-bombing recruiting threads, that wouldn't explain Ellison shifting to Indiana. I seriously doubt that Indiana will be in the running for a B1G Championship in my lifetime.

If he goes elsewhere, it will not be because of Monroe, it will be his friends and family suggesting Indiana plays in a bigger conference. You are right that we are closer than Indiana to winning a championship. We could run the table next year with better qb play. Hopefully, he looks at the total picture. We are closer to his home, he is closer to the field here. We have a former running back who coached in a National Championship game as a head coach. He would be the most talented running back to sign in ages, so he will shine. Monroe and others berating the staff is normal on any page. We are an easy path for Ellison to reach his goals. He will have to become a leader on future teams and continue to improve his skills. Indiana cannot compete in the Big Ten, they will be always middle of the road or lower tier. Indiana is not a football state, that is why they have to come to Ohio and try to steal recruits from Ohio U. There only chance is to get the best JUCO talent like Kansas State used too, because they will never be able to go head to head with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin. These are the facts of the matter. The coaches need to continue talking to him.

Big Ten (13?) is tough at the top so IU winning a title there is much more difficult than OHIO winning a MACC.

But book it; IU will be spoken of with respect and looked at as a legit challenger at the top of the Big Ten before OHIO gets a MACC.

An easy call; I've got 12 years with the last four or so of SFB backing me up.

No, just that recruits care about things like championships. I agree, if it's about who is more likely to win a championship, he's better picking us than Indiana. How close is UC to winning an AAC title? I'd say we're closer than them too.

So if a championship is his primary goal, maybe we have the inside track on those teams. But maybe there is another team out there lurking in the weeds with some hardware in the trophy case to tempt him.

(I don't think it's osu....it seems he's accepted he won't get that offer.)

Well, winning percentage over the last 20 years:
#67 Ohio .506
#110 Indiana .336

Last 10 years:
#40 Ohio .583
#104 Indiana .370

Last 5 years:
#41 Ohio .608
#108 Indiana .311

Indiana has not been over .500 in the B1G in the last twenty years, their best finish coming in 2001 at 4-4.

Note his two recent tweets:
"Pickerington to the B1G?" and a thoughtful face

and

"Pickerington to the MAC?" and a thoughtful face

and no "Pickerington to the AAC?"

I did note that. And Indiana is the only B1G school that has offered as far as we know. Maybe he'd walk on at osu? I doubt it. If he was looking at that option, I don't think he would have initially committed to us to begin with.

He does, however, have MAC offers from BSU, BG, Toledo, and Fiami.

Would he pick another MAC school over Ohio, or is it really just deciding between Indiana and Ohio?

(I know where I'd go, but I'm biased....)

If I have the choice of going to a bad Big 10 school or a decent MAC school (with the chance to actually win something), I'm picking the MAC school every day of the week.

The thought of playing at Indiana would not excite me whatsoever.

Indiana will NEVER be at the levels of OSU-UM-PSU-MSU or WIsc. They could make a nice run like Northwestern did. But even that has been tainted with scandal!

Indiana, in it's entire history, has never had a coach achieve over .500 in conference for his career. The only one that managed .500 was Bo McMillen, from 1937-47. He also won the only outright Big Ten Championship in their history, in a war year, 1945.

How about this Tweet: https://twitter.com/MorganEllisonFB/status/82586643736972...

Looks like he won't be revealing his decision until Wednesday. It's between Ohio, Indiana, Iowa State and Miami.

I think BGSU and Toledo are on the list also. BG seems like the favorite based on the last tweet with Lemming asking if Roger Lewis could influence his decision..

He's definitely not going to win a ring there, thats's for sure. Still, Indiana has sent two good RB's to the NFL the last two seasons so it's hard to fault him for this one.

Gained 186 yards on 25 carries for Indiana yesterday. I think a good one got away. Only a freshman.
