I had an incident in school that led to a year long layoff. I was blessed by my teammates and Leadership Council to be given a 2nd chance. I had to earn the trust that was lost and fortunate for me I had good brothers who had my back. We all make mistakes but its up to ourselves to make the best decisions moving forward. I really hope he does come back because a mature running back like him is a MAC defenders nightmare. Im pulling for the kid.

Some of the best stories involve second chances. I hope he comes back and kills it.

I'm pleasantly surprised to learn that he's got the good judgement and perseverance to work through his problems. It appears that the young man is maturing.

How are there 4 teams in the Mac with double digit commits already and we just got our first?

Three different directors of high school relations in a year doesn't help.

Mischler may be a liitle short and may not have many FBS offers, but he looks like a player. I like it.

He's the son of the coach, and has offers from Harvard and Columbia. Add to that that he was the AAAA athlete of the year. I think that QB recruiting is unquestionably much, much better the last few years.

I expect the 2018 class to be big, probably 25 players when it's done. So far it's off to a relatively slow start. The recruiting services don't like it much, with only one service giving 1 3-star rating (Burton got a 3-star from Scout.com). Fortunately there is historically no correlation between the ratings and how they play on the field.

I saw a group of commits at the OU inn on Saturday, someone said 6 and a lot more having lunch at Walter field house , probably unofficial visits I guess. I think it was a good weekend game wise and weather wise to have all these guys and their families on campus. Based on all the tweets, it looks like many of them
had a good time and had some positive responses to their visits.

Per 247Sports, the recruiting classes, ranked by average rating per athlete:
1. Toledo 80.95 (16 recruits)
2. WMU 80.40 (16)
3. BG 80.04 (13)
4. Miami 79.81 (12)
5. Kent St 79.17 (3)
Ball St 79.17 (12)
7. EMU 79.09 (9)
8. NIU 78.87 (20)
9. CMU 78.56 (9)
10. Buffalo 78.26 (6)
11. Ohio 77.67 (11)
12. Akron 77.6 (8)

Note that the data is incomplete. Ohio actually has 15 recruits, and I'm sure that the other schools have more as well. Note also that some schools, like Kent, only have a few recruits, so their data is likely to move a long way before it's done. Remember also that this is for amusement only, and is not in any way correlated to the actual performance of the athletes in question. ;0

Note also that the spread, from top to bottom, is less than 4 points, which tells me that the talent (or lack thereof) is spread pretty evenly across the MAC.

There are a couple of guys in this class that I am surprised that we offered, Gilliland and darfnell are head scratchers, mcrory looks average along with hooks, Allison is coming off of injury and everyone else liooks decent, we need to add speed at wide receiver tight end and we need corners. I like the corners in this class, we need one more elite guy and we need a great DE.

This reminds me of Frank's comment at an LOI Day Meeting either last year, or the year before. He was asked about the player ratings by various services of his incoming class. He kind of bristled and said, "We don't pay any attention to these ratings. We have our own rating system. We've been at this business long enough that we feel confident that we can assess talent ourselves very accurately." [These quotes are from memory, but are very close to the actual words spoken.]

So I’m hearing about an early signing period has been instituted for December 20. I honestly had not heard about this before now but guess it is a good idea. So is it expected that the majority of our guys will sign that date and if not they could be recruited over since they are not hard commits?

So is it expected that the majority of our guys will sign that date and if not they could be recruited over since they are not hard commits?

From Frank's press conference:

On the new early signing period coming up on December 20th:
"It's a little different. We were out last week recruiting and I was a little nervous about that. I wanted to get started on this next game. I want these guys to end the season on a high note. They're deserving of it, so I want to make sure we're as ready as possible to play a great football game. We went out though, but we're not going out this week. A lot of schools are going to be out this week recruiting. We're right at our numbers in terms of signing players, and the players that have committed to us know that we're preparing for a bowl game and we just can't get to everybody because the signing date is on the 20thwhen we're at the bowl game. It'll be more e-mail than fax. That should work well, but the timing is not the best but it's workable.

On having an early signing period of December 20th:
"There are players that are ready to sign right now, there's no question about it. Almost all of our guys we have committed right now are going to be signing on the 20th. In that regard, it seems to be working out well for us. There's an opportunity for players to sign on two different dates; one is the original date, the first Wednesday in February, and this one. The worry about waiting until February to have guys sign won't be there for us. In saying that, you look at it from the standpoint of having scholarships open up right before the last singing date, or for a guy who is going to grad school and wants one final year here. You have to be careful with the early signing date in. We want the majority of the class signed, but want a scholarship or two open beyond that first date."
