When I first watched the film, I wasn't shocked by the skill level but as I watched it more I began to understand the scholarship offer. He is definitely a utility guy. He does a lot of things well. At LB he has awareness to sniff out plays and stays home on weak-side plays. Delivers a block if you're not on a swivel. He's also a decent short yard back that pick up a few yards. Can also catch out the back field. Tackles well on special teams. He will have several roles on the field after a nice redshirt year and adjustment to college speed.

Appreciate your insights. LB recently seems a position Ohio has shown the ability to develop play-makers.

Agreed, I like his ability to read and his play on the weak side, that really jumped out. Not sure on his size, but interesting thought here is a potential TE.

You see a D1 two way player here? I am more of a defensive guy, but I did not see anything that would cause me to think he would play any offense at the college level. From watching his film, I think he is being recruited to just play linebacker. Admittedly, you may be a better judge of offensive prowess than I am.

He could potentially be a TE. Most recruits at some point after they get on campus are evaluated as to where they fit best, position changes are not uncommon from one side of the ball to the other

I'm aware of this. I just didn't see anything on his film that made me think we are recruiting him to play TE, HB, FB, or any other offensive position. The majority of these athletes played both ways in high school, that doesn't mean they can play either side of the ball at the next level. It does happen of course. Our own Tyler Tupa switched over from safety to receiver, so I could be wrong. I just didn't see it with this particular case.

Reminds me of a Bo Hardy type of player. Does a lot of things well. Will likely play defense but he will be in kickoff and punt coverage in 2-3 yrs. Kid has a knack for being around that ball. But we might be one running back short for fall this season....just a heads up...

Isiah Cox from Jasper Ala might help at RB.

That doesn't sound good. I did see that Kristian Pechac has de committed from IU and reopened his recruiting. He would be a great get.

Given one of our RB's issues in the criminal justice system, we all kind of expected that, didn't we? Or at least knew there was a significant risk of that?

(Unless that's not who you mean...)

Next man up. Ohio had four good options counting Papi. Best of luck to the player you are referring to. Hope he moves on with his health.

Maleek must have got the boot or a year long suspension.

I guess if one of the running backs has left the program, that would explain where the scholarship came from for the late addition of Jamal Hudson.

He is gone for this season but plans on sticking it out and playing next year. I hope he does. The good news is the two backs we just recruited look good. Especially the one I wasn't expecting. I think he's from Miamisburg? He looks like he can help out right away maybe. Heard he caught 375 in power clean...

It's good to hear that he plans to stick it out. At this point the best thing he can do is to stick around and work hard in school and get his degree, and to the extent that the opportunity to earn his way back on the field motivates him to do well in the classroom, that's a good thing.

As for there being two backs in this class, you got me. There is Julian Ross from Kansas City, but I don't know any others. Isiah Cox from Alabama played some RB, but he's more a Papi White-type receiver.

I think the reference is to Jake Neatherton from Miamisburg.

I had an incident in school that led to a year long layoff. I was blessed by my teammates and Leadership Council to be given a 2nd chance. I had to earn the trust that was lost and fortunate for me I had good brothers who had my back. We all make mistakes but its up to ourselves to make the best decisions moving forward. I really hope he does come back because a mature running back like him is a MAC defenders nightmare. Im pulling for the kid.

I think the reference is to Jake Neatherton from Miamisburg.

Thanks. He was apparently under the radar as he had to sit out half the year:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/miamisburg-gets-wel... /

and is attending Ohio as a preferred walkon:
http://miamisburgathletics.com/2017/02/07/jake-neatherton... /

He's listed at 5-8 204 (about the same as Blankenship), runs a 4.89 40-yard dash
http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/pl...

and an 11.74 100m, and a 25.06 200m

Yes, thank you. That's who I was referring to. Not blazing speed, but explosive and strong. Hopefully he and Ross can make successful contributions this season.
