With apologies to Billy for going off topic, these posts remind me of two football players in the 1950s who played together (same class, I believe) at much smaller Grandview Heights High School in Columbus.

Ralph Gugliemi went on the star at Notre Dame as a running back and Tad Weed became the place kicker for osu. Both, I believe, played on national championship teams in college.

But most amazing was what they did after their senior season. Back then, a college all-star team would play the NFL championship team. My recollection of facts is a little hazy, but one year the college team beat the Chicago Bears with Gugliemi and Weed scoring all of the points for the all-star team.

So, in essence, tiny Grandview Heights defeated the mighty Chicago Bears. Go BOBCATS!

Additional interesting note: Weed invented the Weed tennis racket about 15-20 years later.
This is an interesting topic to revisit. Two quality players for the Cats and some disdain from some posters who are no longer active.

+Great call Billy! It took a few years of development but those Athens boys are getting better with each game, and are now a very important part of our offense.

Interesting indeed. I didn't have much perspective on them at the time, and didn't even know what position they would play. I recall that you PM'ed me at the time, and assured me that they were athletes, and hard workers, and that in time they would play, though they would have some adjustment from playing WR in high school to playing TE at Ohio. Your predictions were dead on, for sure.
