With 8 Verbals now, and only 11 Seniors on Scholarship, I asked myself how many Ohio will likely be giving out this year. It's always more than I expect, of course. A lot of people have left the program, so there are some openings. All of those have no doubt been given temporarily to walkons, but I expect them to be used for offers for 2020. Some that have left, or who apparently have left (as their names are not on the roster), include Maxwell, Marcus Brunson, Willie Cherry, Elijah Ball, Adam Notestine, and Patrick Gilliland, plus perhaps Daxon and Gates who have not arrived, but whom I still hope to see. That could leave Ohio with as many as 19 offers.

So the welcome mat is still out for another K. Heitzman or T. Strobel type?

Absolutely. While several have already been given out on a one year basis, they should have at least a couple that they could give to either a graduate transfer, or a walkon, on a one-year basis. Neither would affect their ability to make an offer for a 2020 Scholarship.

That would be sweet if we could throw in another DL like Strobel for a season or two.

Seems like we're ahead of pace in terms of number of commits. Liking the class so far.

Noticing so far its an Ohio-Florida recruiting class for the most part, two of the very best recruiting states. That's why I don't see us having to worry about a return to the dark ages in competitiveness. A place like Nevada for example was built around 1 great coach in Chris Alut. The second he moves upstairs in an administrative role the program starts tanking but the second he's back on the field they start winning again. That's what happens when there is no local recruiting base. OU is a statewide draw so the SEO location of the campus isn't limiting when 85% of the students are not from SEO. Also OU is not impacted by the demographic shifts as Cleveland-Akron have declined while Columbus and SW Ohio have built big new HS because its a statewide pull. Kent has been hurt by the decline of NE Ohio FB. Miami has been hurt by the rise of UC football. OU has the facilities to match up with Toledo and BG these days.

At the division 1 level its not what it once was with only 2 of the preseason Top 10 in St. Edwards and Mentor. In D2 though it has better representation with 5 of 10 programs (Hoban, Massillon, Avon, Wadsworth, Barberton). As the demographic shifts have hit programs in northern Ohio have moved down in classification.

Well, those all important "pre-season" top 10 list.

Should be a big weekend for visits I would guess. Let’s see if anything shakes out after this week.

Probably the most talented class they've ever hosted, right?

Per Ted's recruiting page, Ohio has awarded 4 scholarships to Seniors, so there are now 15 Seniors on Scholarship. The new additions are DL Knock, Chukwudi Chukwu, Austin Clack, and Devin King. Ohio also gave a scholarship to Nick Sink (Jr) and Jarren Hampton (Jr). With 15 Seniors, I am expecting Ohio to give out 15-18 scholarships, allowing for a few players who may leave the program.

Well 247 sports now has us 12th in the MAC and they’re only missing two of our guys. We need to close the deal on some better recruits. It’s probably going to be a smaller class, but we need some good ones in the pipeline.

Smaller classes always get pushed down in the rankings.

Depth wise we could use another RB and a DL guy.

JUCO guys could include a QB.

Grad transfer names I have heard include a QB and a Tennessee offensive lineman.

Seems to me we need some DE.

Well that was about as quiet a signing day as we’ve ever had. Two very pleasant surprises, but sure not many new players.

Any thoughts about this class?

Not just worst in MAC ... worst in FBS

Small class or not ... that's disappointing.

Quality over quantity obviously not in play here.

We do have the worst class in the MAC as of now, but we have 7 or 8 slots to fill. We need to get a couple of qb’s, db’s, linebackers and one more defensive end. I am sure that out of the 11 or 12, a few of them are good, but we need some exceptional skill players, now. Go Cats

Worst class in all of FBS and bottom of MAC according to 247 Sports. VERY IMPRESSIVE! The staff out did themselves with this group.

Using 247 sports;

Fact: lowest number of signees in the MAC and among the bottom few in number in all of FBS
Fact: only 8 of our 11 signees listed
Fact: not the lowest average rating by far for our signees

No doubt a very small class, but worse?
