As each year goes by the recruiting services seem to pay less and less attention to MAC level talent. 247sports can't even be bothered to include 2 of our signees that are listed in their database. That tells me they don't really care. They are in business to make money and the money is in Power 5 conference team coverage, so I get it. The sooner we all grasp that fact the better off we'll be. I'm not saying it's completely worthless or not worth discussing but the difference between the top & bottom classes in the G5 are not that substantial. L.C. has laid out previously that some of our best players are often unranked or lowly ranked and many of our higher ranked players come in and do nothing.

I used to follow this closely and get bent out of shape over low ranked classes but it's simply not accurate enough to get worked up about.

If it makes anyone feel better if you add Middlebrook & Rhodes (Kittrell not in the service that I see so wouldn't count towards points or averages) our average rating per player is 81.15 which is just behind Miami at 81.24 for 4th best in the conference. Still last in total points but again that's purely due to small class size.

If you want to look at the truly "worst" class in FBS look into New Mexico. 1 signee. ONE.

The other fact I thought was interesting is the G5 has a total of 4 star recruits and they both are heading to UC.

Last thought for now...it seems a lot of our guys will be early enrollees this year. That's great and I believe changes the math on class size some. Perhaps we're expecting more departures.

I’m not sure that it’s 247 sports that keeps up with all signing as much as each schools PR department. A bunch of Buffalo, BGSU and Central M guys came up in groups yesterday. Most were unrated. I’m guessing that media releases sent to 247 sports got them on the lists.

Take the recruiting rankings with a grain of salt. According to Phil Steele's 2015 college football MAC ratings Western Michigan was 1st and 78th overall, Toledo 2nd and 80th overall, the Bobcats were 5th and 96th overall and Buffalo was 11th and 126th overall. That same year Florida State was rated best in the ACC and 3rd overall. South Florida led the AAC in recruiting and was 53rd overall, USC was 1st in the PAC-12 and 2nd overall, with UCLA 2nd in the PAC-12 and 14th overall. Appy State was rated 94th overall and sixth best in the Sun Belt. Iowa was rated dead last in the Big ten and 64th overall. Looking at the results today, these rating systems are a crapshoot at best.

Shedrick Rhodes was just added to our class so someone is updating it. Possibly the player or school, but I'd have to think it's someone's job at 247sports to review all the signings and be sure their list is up to date.

Well Sac State just got 4 listed, Liberty 5 and Marshall 11 I think. So some schools are coming in groups.

Wasn't that 2015 Western Michigan class the class of LeVante Bellamy who led the charge defeating Ohio this season? Top MAC classes often contain a skill player that makes a difference.

It's not how many "stars" a player has but how he's coached that often makes the difference. Joe Burrow was rated 3-stars by Rival and just had the best year of any player in 1A and likely will be taken first in the NFL draft. I don't think AJ had any stars when he walked on at Ohio and became one of the best in the MAC. I don't even look at the class rankings.

I'm still expecting 16-18 recruits in this class, but only 11 have signed so far, and this board is extremely quiet. Signing day is not that far off, so hopefully we will see some late activity.

We have a Minnesota de-commit visiting on the 24th.

In the absence of much definitive information shouldn’t we just go ahead and “crank up” the rumor mill? ;)

I think the Minnesota de-commit will commit to us. Just a feeling I have.

For those who care about such things, the latest additions have moved Ohio past Buffalo in the recruiting rankings. The class is still small relative to the other schools though, so they still rank 11th out of 12 in the MAC. They're also still missing Cleotis Anglin. New signee Dorsey is the second highest rated member of the class.

I saw someone tweet about having a last big recruiting weekend last week but we’ve only gotten one commit since then. Maybe we’ll have some surprise signings?

With 3 signed, plus 11 signed in December, that puts Ohio at 14. There were 15 Seniors, plus Mischler is supposedly leaving. There would seem to be room for a couple more additions to the class.

I wonder if there are any walk ons who might get a scholarship?

So they appear to have 2 left for walkons or late transfers or additions.
