I posted last year at the beginning of August about how we only had 7 commits, while other teams in the MAC had nearly double...and here we are again a few days from July with only 1 commit. Not sure it means much but other MAC teams can clearly get these kids to at least verbally commit. I guess it's not about how you start but how you finish?

Verbal Commits (as of 02 August)
CMU 15
Ball State 15
NIU 13
Miami 13
Toledo 9
WMU 7
Buffalo 7
Akron 6
Kent State 6
Bowling Green 5
EMU 2
Ohio 1

(according to 247 sports)

We are tied for last. Buffalo just got a QB commit out of Cincinnati.

I'm sure that UBs recruiting coordinator played a big role in landing him as he was waking the halls at Princeton this time last year.

Given his shall we say this coach's fluid commitment level to a given program, I wonder how long he'll be at Buffalo.

Granted, he played at I believe 3 different high schools as a prep QB.

Mike Daniels Always Be 'Cruitin.

I was a year behind him at Princeton. Yes, he also played at Lockland and Woodward.

Trying not to be negative here but I surely can't find any positives in only having 1 verbal commit at the beginning of July and being dead last in the MAC.

Also, I know it happens a lot every year but it's unfortunate to see some of the kids we offer end up at other MAC schools...especially Miami. There's already 3 that have committed to Miami. Gross.

Buffalo can promise a lot of playing time with their old coach gone to Kansas along with a slew of talent. I think we are okay.

What position would you like to sign next?

I think a defensive end would be nice to have.

I was already slightly worried about the lack of verbal commits prior to Frank's retirement but now I'm more worried and curious to see how this all shakes out.

One, is we have so few scholarships, which is why you see the lack of commits for next year.

Any idea of how many we should be expecting?

Very unsettling when you come on here and mention actual facts, BTC. When a good BAer wants to opine about a pet worry the last thing anyone expects is that real information is going to be thrown in his or her face. Actual facts really take the fun out of things here on this board. We usually prefer "our facts" to data driven analysis.

I guess I liked my facts quantified- What’s the number?
We’re still a month or more behind where we usually are, surely there’s more than 1 who really wants to be a Bobcat.

I sure hope there are more future Bobcats out there haha. They've put a fair amount of offers out there, unfortunately almost half verbally committed to Power 5 schools. I guess shoot for the moon?

According to 247 sports OU put out 29 offers (including 1 OU commit). 22/29 (76%) offers have verbally committed, leaving 7 open offers but of course lots of interest in other prospects (take it for what it's worth). Below details where these prospects have verbally committed and may shine some light into OU's interesting recruiting for 2022.

Power 5 Verbals (13)
ACC: 2
Big Ten: 6
Big 12: 2
SEC: 2
PAC-12: 1

Group of 5 Verbals (8)
MAC: 4 (3 Miami(OH), 1 Ball State)
AAC: 2
C-USA: 1
Sunbelt: 1

Non-Committed: 7 (3 QB offers)

Another takeaway from 247 data is that of the top 100 prospects in Ohio, we only offered nine.

WTF are we doing?

There is no logical reason to only have 1 verbal commit at this point and considering how the season is currently going, everyone better buckle up.

I hope they get it together soon but it's hard to be optimistic at this point.

Absolute Crickets. Is this staff offering players? I get that it’s not exactly an appealing look through the non-conference slate but they are going to have to get commitments at some point.

According to 247 sports we've only put out 31 offers...How does that compare to the rest of the MAC? ...not good...not good at all. Even NIU who has the 2nd least amount of offers (43) still has 13 verbal commits. What in the hell is going on?

I remember one of the coaches tweeting and making it a point about how Ohio offers the least amount of high school kids in all of FBS or something like that as if it's a good thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm an OU grad and love this place but pretty sure kids are dying to come play football for a mediocre, middle-tier MAC school. Just saying.

Obviously it doesn't help having a crappy year so far. Either way, they better get it together or else things will only get much worse for the future...considering we've always been middle to lower tier for recruiting in the MAC in the Frank Solich era.

2022 Offers
Akron - 266
Ball State - 136
Bowling Green - 166
Buffalo - 298
Central Michigan - 184
Eastern Michigan - 139
Kent State - 195
Miami(OH) - 122
Northern Illinois - 43
Ohio - 31
Toledo - 271
Western Michigan - 97

It appears the coaches have been looking at the offer comparison on this thread :)

I see 3 offers recently to:

ATH/QB Te'Sean Smoot (22') 6'1" 175 lbs. (Springfield Ohio)

OL/DL Joseph Watson (22') 6'1" 280 lbs. (UHS Chillicothe)

WR Kyle Parker (23') 5'11" 175 lbs. Lovejoy HS (Texas)

They could have offered Smoot two years ago. He's been very good for awhile.

Watson's offer is a preferred walk-on offer.
