Hamstring tweak in the Thursday non-contact “practice.”

Hopefully no big deal. Frank cited it in postgame on radio and with print press.

Of more concern for me was LT injury late that caused shuffling.
Ross also came up limping on the next-to-last drive and didn't return. We could be getting a little thin at RB again.

The key factor in this game was "WE DELIVERED IN CRUNCH TIME", period end of discussion!

I was all over the place watching this game. From thinking Ohio could finish 2-10 to thinking they might still have a shot at the East. My incoherent thoughts:

- Feels like the Bobcats are 0-5. But they are 3-2 and a foot away from being 4-1 over a Top 25 team (although that team wouldn't be Top 25 if they had lost to Ohio).
- Can get away with spotting UMass and Kent St. 14-point leads, but no one else on the schedule (save BG).
- Buffalo appears to be the class of the East. Ohio's path would be to win out at home and one of three (@NIU, @WMU, @Miami) on the road. That assumes Buffalo loses at Toledo. Given the defense's current state, offense would need to have clean sheet in every game (except BG) to have a chance to win.
- Arkley tweeted at halftime that Kent St. is susceptible in the secondary but Ohio didn't test in first half. Appeared to be a concerted effort to get Papi the ball in the second half. Conversely, felt like Kent St. let Ohio off the hook in the second half.
- Feeling good about our WR trio (White, Odom, Meyer).
- Not sure what the numbers say but felt like front 7 tightened up in second half.
- Ohio goes into every year with 3 scholarship running backs and it's never enough. Time to re-think roster construction?
- Loved Hudson's hit on the WR screen.
- Not a big fan of Hagan celebrating hits after 20-yard gains. But I'm also beginning to think he's trying to instill some sort of emotion into the defense. Has been backing it up with his play. Sealed the Umass game with a pick and sealed the Kent St. game (twice) with a pick.
- Love Rourke and feel like we always have a chance with him, but not sure about his interception (ball slip out of his hands?) and the fumble on the 4th down option. Thought he had the first down.
- Which brings me to my next point, ESPN Plus is horrible. How can it be worse then ESPN3? Virtually no replays. Down and distance never accurate. So, really had no idea whether Rourke did or didn't have the first down on the option play but it looked to me like he had it.
- Neither team punted in the 2nd half.
- Play of the game may have been Austin Conrad's tackle for 2-yard loss when the Flashes were 3rd and 3 on the Ohio 9. Flashes settle for FG to make it 26-21 instead of getting a TD that would have made it a 2-possession game.
- How about that final drive? Rourke hits a stretching Meyer on 3rd and 5 to keep drive alive. Then he escapes the rush and gets hit out-of-bounds (really played up the hit). Big catch by Odom. Escapes the pocket and hits Ouellette for 20 on 2nd-and 17. Then, unlike UC, they finish the job.
- Barrett still had 40 seconds left and really forced a ball. Thought they still had time to get in FG position. And with the way their FG kicker was hitting...

From the post-game notes:

- Junior quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) completed 18 of his 20 passes for a 90-percent completion percentage, setting a new Ohio single-game record. The mark was previously set by Tyler Tettleton on Sept. 21, 2013, when he completed 86.7 percent (10-of-13) of his passes.
- The Bobcats held a team under 30 points for the first time this season.
- Ohio did not allow a touchdown after the first quarter.

I just re-watched the game and feel the Marlin Brooks fumble call was bogus. Also thought Rourke has the first down in Q1.

I've been thinking this for a while myself. We over-recruit WRs, with many never producing. In a run-first offense, it doesn't make sense.

We have 4 scholarship running backs and 2 very capable walkons, we miss on so many wide receivers. Last year we took a kid with 24 receptions and another with like 14. We got Bucker who will be very good late, so we just have to treat our Schollies like gold. We have a kicker coming in that was 1/2 last year with the make being from 24 yards.

Agree about Rourke selling the hit he took out-of-bounds. In fact, I'll take it a step further. I suspect that Rourke initiated the contact with the Kent defender before playing up the "late" hit.

Agreed. I chuckled on that play. Rourke has been watching some of those NFL QBs ... they know if they get touched, just drop like you've been shot and you'll get the call

Are we taking the backs out for any little thing to prevent them from being too dinged up down the stretch? Ross and Irons are both listed as undisclosed as to their injuries on the handicapping site. Saying this I have to be surprised we only have 3 running backs on scholarship considering the team runs a multiple I offense. I hope this week against NIU is when the tough get going because everything counts at this point in the season.

I love reading Arkley's recaps. Some tidbits from the Kent St. recap: https://www.athensmessenger.com/blogs/bobcat_blog/final-ohio-kent-state/article_d130687b-4982-5bcd-89e1-194b4aec4afd.html

- First down throws were the weapon of choice for Ohio as QB Nathan Rourke was 12 of 14 for 209 yards, one touchdown and the lone interception on first down. Rourke had just six throws the rest of the day on second and third down.

- Rourke, after a 4 of 15 start to the season, has completed 65.4 percent of his throws since the second quarter against Virginia.

- Ohio didn’t have a plethora of big offensive plays, but instead turned a paltry 58 offensive snaps into six red-zone possessions. And after three straight turnovers in the red zone — a crusher for any team in any conference usually — the Bobcats executed three touchdown drives on its last three possessions to save the day.
