🚨UNIFORM PREVIEW🚨

This weekend the Bobcats will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1968 MAC Championship football team by wearing a throwback helmet!

LOVE the throwback helmet.

Side note ... listened to presser and sounds like Frank admitted they made wrong call on 2nd & goal. Said probably should've ran sneak.

Hindsight 20/20 I guess.

Frank has obviously forgotten more football than I'll ever know ... but it was troubling to hear him talk about how they came to running same exact play. A staff 14 years together, you would think, would know immediately what to run in that situation ... especially considering nearly 99% of folks on here knew that a QB sneak was best option.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the throwback helmet too!

I was pretty harsh on BA Saturday afternoon after having sat through that rain at Nippert only to see Ohio lose it in the 2nd half. At least I salvaged the day enjoying some Moerleins and Fretboard beers at Octoberfest in downtown Cinci. Dee-lish!

Anyway, upon reflection Ohio did have some good moments against UC. And the defense was there in the first 25 minutes of the game.

But let’s face it-that defense is terrible right now. They stink and there’s just no other way to say it, at least without sounding delusional. I think Ohio misses the leadership of Quentin Poling, Chad Moore and some of the other defensive seniors who graduated last year. They miss it big-time.

Coach Solich might be right-this team might be very good by the end of the year. Problem is, it might be too late.

If past performance is any indication of future results, I can’t predict an Ohio victory Saturday.

What the heck, I’m stubbornly optimistic (and stupid), because it’s a home game and Parents Weekend on top of that:

Ohio wins 49-45.

Very cool helmet.

Bobcats come in royally pissed off and crush UMass. I'll say 31-10.

No, I haven't lost my mind, and yes, I sat in the rain and watched the 2nd half debacle.

In fact, Ohio goes on a bit of a run in MAC play. If only because the football gods are cruel to us. I'm predicting a 7 game win streak, but we finish 8-4. I'll take 5 kicks to the groin please!

Maybe Nathan Rourke can switch to the Cleve Bryant face mask that Bob Griese had along with Terry Bradshaw in his early years.

We open at -12.5 which was a little surprising to me, but then I saw FIU beat them by 39. We can do similar, right?

Partly cloudy and 73 degrees is niiiiiiice.

We couldn’t stop them last year and see no reason to think we can this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost this one.

UMASS likes to chuck the ball around (and our pass defense has been...mm...questionable). I'll be pleasantly surprised if we cover, let alone win by 39!!

BSHOT44 ------------ I too just listened to the press conference and I totally agree with you on coaches admission to the wrong call when we were at the 1 yard line. I am thinking that coach probably made a similar statement to the team after the game so that the players do not take the loss too hard.

Yeah ... I really was kind of stunned on how he basically admitted the coaching staff blew it in that situation. Not something you'd expect from a guy with the kind of experience Frank has and a staff that has worked together for 14 years.

Kind of discouraging, really.

Couldn't agree more when he said they shouldn't be pulling a lineman there. They tried to pull #76 Meservy from RG

Really?!?! How would that EVER be an option in that position. You have inches to plow forward and win the game and you call a play to pull a lineman? Just mind-blowing to be quite honest.

Does not instill a lot of faith in what is going on on those sidelines.

Wow, whoever that was that Lowery tried to block blew the play up. Drove Lowery into Meservy's path. Almost everyone else was blocked well. If Meservy was able to get to #8, it's just a one on one of Ouellette going full speed on the safety.

Coaches make mistakes, being accountable for those mistakes is the sign of leadership,, regardless the execution by the players has to improve.

Agree ... execution has a ways to go on offense (and a loooong way to go on defense) but coaches job is to put players in position to succeed. They failed to do so on that 2nd down play in a big way.

Yes, Rourke 100% should've never thrown that ball on 3rd down .... unless he was throwing it to you in the stands.

Regardless ... QB sneak on 2nd down ... and they're not in that position to have to throw.

A veteran coaching staff cannot make that mistake. They just can't. Too much football knowledge to make such a call.

I appreciate Frank owning up to it ... but what in the hell is Albin thinking even trying that? Pulling a guard on the one-inch line? C'mon! That is not setting up players to succeed.

Have you guys heard of Jennifer Brodeur, she is our head football athletic trainer. She was accepted during the summer to a program at Ohio and then went through the four year program. The link above is a tweeter video of her.

Of course you could guess, who will be qb will be a game day decision.

I agree... I'm happy Frank owned this as a coaches' mistake. Declining to do so would insinuate that the players blew it. If I was a player, I'd appreciate the coaches taking the blame.

The keys to winning will be our offensive line coming out and asserting themselves along with irons and oullette getting at least 5 yards a carry, Rourke needs complete 60% of his passes and the db’s should not give out huge cushions on third down. UC had more speed so I can understand them being a little cautious. The db’s should be able to hang with UMASS. Nelson cannot be left alone against anyone and our line backers have to close strong on ball carriers. Ohio wins 49-21. Go Cats

3rd down ... 3rd down ... 3rd down.

Huge key to game.

Ohio offense is 108th in country in 3rd down conversions at 33%. Pretty bad

But you know what's worse. Ohio's defense on third down. It's literally the worst in the country. 129th. Gross. They allow teams a staggering 59% success rate on third down.

If that doesn't change ... you don't beat UMass or UMarietta. Awful.

last year we played a soft defense on passing downs. They threw for 5 TD's and 403 yards in the air (6.9 yds. per pass) they rushed for 147 yds. and 4.0 per carry.
Same QB as last year. They had a stud Grad Student Tight End that is thankfully gone.
They were 0-4 when we played them last year.

The defense actually had a key 3rd stop down while holding on to a slim lead in the 4th quarter. . . actually UC stopped itself when the wide open receiver slipped and fell as the pass fell to the ground . . . actually Ohio shot itself in the foot with a personal foul on the play that gave UC the first down anyways, keeping alive a critical possession that ended with a touchdown.
