BGSU Announces Change In Leadership Of Football Program
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger has announced that Mike Jinks has been released from his head football coach responsibilities.

"I want to thank Coach Jinks for all of his efforts with our football program and in the BG community. However, we felt it was time to make a change in leadership. These are not easy decisions and we do not take this lightly. This affects 11 coaching families, 112 student-athletes and numerous support staff. We wish Mike and his family the best in their future endeavors."

Moosbrugger will begin the search for a new head coach immediately. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini has agreed to serve as Interim Head Coach.

"We have a talented group of hard working student-athletes and I look forward to the program finishing the season strong playing for the senior class under the leadership of Coach Pelini," Moosbrugger said.

"Our football program has been a source of pride for our alumni and fans," Moosbrugger added. "We need football to be successful to help our entire athletics department and University. We are committed to excellence on the field and in the classroom."

BG is going to come swinging, no questions asked. However, it will be a high-scoring affair as I think BGSU will come in and spoil Homecoming. Real Estate Agents will own the field in the secondary, as OU runs into the 3rd level after squashing the line and linebackers and BG passes around our 3rd level all-day.

Their starting RB, Andrew Clair, was in a walking boot after their loss on Saturday.

If he can't go, we finally get the blowout win we need this week. I realize I have nothing to back this up based on what has happened this year but ...

This sort of reminds me of our situation in '06 when the Dispatch ran a scathing story about the lack of off-field discipline on the Ohio team the morning of the BG game. The result was not pretty -- a 21-9 loss. But afterwards the team developed an "it's us against them" attitude and reeled off seven straight wins before losing the MACCG to CMU. I can see BG thinking their backs are against the wall and developing that same attitude. They might play their best game of the year, not for Jinx but for themselves.

Ohio has been known to lay a homecoming egg.

Will be interesting to see how they respond from a second gut punch loss in four weeks

A few things about the press conference. Coach Solich said that we should not have ran to the outside, that to me is wrong, that is how you keep a pass rush in check, you make them guess and set the edge with screens and options. He also praised the secondary, in reality northern Illinois dropped a lot of balls, they also outcoached us, they noticed that we face guard wide receivers so on the first pass interference, when Hudson reached his hand out, the wide receiver grabbed him and pulled him into him. Northern Illinois saw that on film and exploited that, he also called Ohio a well disciplined football team, that is absolutely crazy. I still like FS but he needs to be better at assessing our team. The rest I thought was spot on.

As I was thinking about this game my mind went back to 2012 and the Penn State Game. If you recall this was the 1st game for Penn State after the incident and the change of the coaching staff.
They were all pumped up, team and fans. They were so excited that they tired themselves out during the 1st half and we won that game with a second half comeback.
I would not be surprised if BG comes out all amped up. We will need to expect that approach and not do anything but weather that enthusiasm and play our game. It is doubtful that they will add anything unusual into their playbook for this game, rather just look to execute their playbook better.

Just saw that we are 16.5pt favorites

Well, now that you've taught Frank that his philosophy is "wrong", I am sure he's in his office right now re-thinking all he knows about football and especially the running game.

OHIO is #43 in the nation in fewest penalties. #2 in the MAC, so yeah, Frank's comments have relevance based in statistics.

Mid-season coaching changes are always an interesting thing as sometimes a bad team goes even further down the spiral. Others a team rallies and plays their hearts out.

I'm hoping that the Cats pounce on BG and pour it on early.

However, I've watched enough Bobcats football to know that they are always willing to allow a team a chance to make a game interesting that should not be.

New coach or not, BG had Western on the ropes last week until they had an eerily familiar collapse.

Golden opportunity to put together a complete, 4 quarter effort/game!

For somebody that tells on everybody, you don’t hesitate to lie. We are 68th in penalty yards and if you take into account our strength of schedule, it is worst. We are second in the Mac east, not second in the MAC. Maybe, I should tell on you, lol. We are not a very disciplined team, we are mediocre at best. You have once again found a way to frame a better moral victory than mad dog. Note to self, cross reference everything that btc submits. https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/stat/penalt...

Hey Einstein, I said PENALITIES PER GAME, that is different from penalty yards per game, which is what you linked. I guess your reading comprehension is still a bit lacking. I’m also not sure what this latest kick of trying to insult is about, but it’s not working. Bottom line, my post was factual, and you have a hard time with that.

You tried to cherry pick a stat with your medio bias. Yes against an fcs doormat and a fbs doormat, we did not have that many penalties, but we have the worst penalties, 15 yard pass interference automatic first downs and holds on offense that are drive killers. Did I burn you? No, I caught you cherry picking, we are not a disciplined team yet, we give up explosive plays on third down and long, we probably lead the country in opposing 1,2 or 3 play drives. Did I teach FS, no I disagreed with three things that he said and gave supporting details on why.

Did not Cherry Pick anything, I confirmed Frank's comments that you disagree with. Again, you spend 10 months talking about how great all our talent is, how great our coaches are, then you get butt hurt when they do not meet your expectations and you want to fire everyone. You would fit in great over at bucknuts.com

After we beat BGSU you will be back on how great our players are and how we are winning the MACC.

I think you have me mixed up with someone else, I love some of our players and I I believe we need to improve at several positions. I am on record saying that we need to recruit better, I am on record also saying that certain players will be good. As far as firing the whole staff, if I were FS, I would fire the defensive coordinator and the defensive backs coach, if he can’t do that than we need to move on from him. I like FS, he is a tough Clevelander, I never go into a game believing that we will lose because I know our potential, but we rarely play to our potential. We are not very disciplined, we miss tackles, we blow coverages, and we get pi’s every week because of face guarding. I like our corner backs ironically, I just believe that they are not being taught well. I feel the same way about our safeties. I am not leaving the site, even if you tell on me. If you don’t know, now you know. Go Cats
