This line actually opened at 0. It went to 2 taking only three or four hours to get there. Then is shifted back to -2. It is easy to chalk that strange movement to a QB injury, but it was pretty much a known quantity well before any open. I expected to be a 2 - 3 point favorite with the injury.

the loss of Wassink definitely changes things. There were games where they barely had to throw and the freshman QB seems to play a different style.

That said, I still think the game plan becomes stop the run and force the young QB to pass. Load up the box, and be careful with any blitzing so you avoid the big plays. If we can stop the run and get decent pressure without blitzing, then we win the game.

I've been close with my last 2 predictions (49-17 for the BUGS game and 56-21 for the BALLS game), so here's hoping I'm 3 for 3.

OHIO: 38
WMU: 24
Eleby is a lot like Wassink actually, just with a much much stronger arm. He can certainly make throws that Jon couldn't, and it just as accurate, but he doesn't have the command of the offense that Jon had. We'll see what happens but the future looks bright at the QB position at WMU.
It's a small sample size but statistically it looks like Wassink's advantage over Eleby was in mobility. Not that Wassink ran a lot but he had 162 yards net and lost only 27 yards in 9 games. Eleby netted a loss of 26 yards in his one game with only one positive run of 5 yards.

Sometimes in games like this we get sucker punched right out of the gate and dig a hole for ourselves. It usually is a chunk play by the opponent then a turnover, interception, fumble, whatever and we are down 2 touchdowns.. At Buffalo last year I was running late getting to the game and I think it was 21-7 in the first quarter by the time I got to my seat. We played better in the second half but were not able to pull ourselves out of a hole.
I think if we win the toss we should receive and get some points on the board, if only a FG. Hopefully we can avoid the opening drive 65 yard bomb by the opponent that we have been giving up nearly every game.
This is a tough game but Miami on the road will be just as tough. Buffalo will be tougher since we have issues with running quarterbacks.
Then you got Akron.
Seems like a tall order to run the table.

Yup. We're on the road at a venue where we haven't won since before Bill Clinton was impeached. The weather is going to be cold and wet. We've had two really good games in a row where everything clicked offensively and the defense played well.

We're primed for a letdown.

What's strange is that we've gotten behind early in seven of the first eight games and won five of them. The only time we started ahead was the loss to Cincy.

That said, the two losses we had after getting behind early were to two of the top three teams we've played this year (UVA and NIU). The five wins were against teams that have losing records.

We have to at least keep it close in the early going tonight. At NIU we were down 3-0 after one and 9-7 at the half. That made it possible to at least have a chance to win at the end.

It's likely the end of MAC championship hopes for the loser. Both teams are one loss back of the leader in their division.

WMU will try to estsblish a running game. We need to stop the run. Make the backup QB throw with a 5 man rush. 4 man rush still gives time. Watching the Buffalo vs Miami game....Buffalo ran backside nickel blitz to get to Ragland. We should do the same and force him to throw quick. Buffalo is having success with that nickel blitz and Im sure we will see that when we play them. Good luck Cats!

I agree ex-cat that the first order of business is to stop the run. WMU passig game hard to figure.
Frosh QB Elerby(?) was 23-28 last week, 2 TDs and 293 yards. Game was a blowout so its hard to evaluate the game conditions in which he performed. Came in cold off the bench when starter was injured.
If we can run the ball and mix in efficient passing ,we can keep their offense off the field. WMU is probably thinking the same thing.

Huge game for the Bobcats, and for WMU. First of four games against very good MAC contenders. Toughest MAC schedule we have faced in many years. Go Bobcats, get one win at a time!

We are definitely challenging their run game. Fumble already! Im at work on my Ipad going nuts. We need to capitalize off this fumble. And it looks like we did!!!

So, who was more inept? Broncos the first half or that Bobcat team that had like 49 punts blocked by BGSUcks?

Line of the game when Rorke was on the phone--he could be calling anybody!

Phenomenal first half. It is amazing what can happen when the team is allowed to showcase their skills. One play in the Cincy game, a couple of plays in the Northern Illinois game and let us replay the first quarter in the Virginia game and we would be media darling of the nation right now. Well we certainly are headed in the right direction, but oh what might have been!

WMU was 4-1 in the MAC. Yikes!

This is what being the preseason MAC favorite is supposed to look like.

What an ass-kicking!

I know WMU is literally gift-wrapping this thing (to the point where I actually just felt bad for them after the 2nd fumbled kickoff) ... but Ohio is just doing whatever the hell they want.

Nice to see!

Don't remember as dominating a 1H of football in any MAC game during the Solich era ... especially on the road.

(Maybe that 1H of the MACC vs NIU??? Just threw up in my mouth remembering the 2H of that game)
