With BG winning at Akron (their second road win in a row) it not only puts Akron on the ropes for bowl eligibility but also gives a small glimmer of hope that BG can take out Buffalo at home next week.

BG now knows how to win. Let's hope they want more of it.

You must still be of the mindset like me that the team in Oxford are Redskins and not Birds!

I just looked over the conference stats and discovered why Akron has a loosing record. They are a really bad offensive team. They lost their last 2 games; @ Eastern Michigan 27-7, and @ home to BG 21-6. Only scored 1 TD in their last 2 games.

I am thinking that the spread for this game will be between 12-16 points. Akron's record disqualifies them from bowl eligibility, therefor they really have nothing to play for other than to beat us.

And yet this team somehow beat B1G West champion Northwestern. It's a funny game.

Akron has 2 games left, therefore could become bowl eligible. The last thing we want is to be overconfident heading into Friday. We've seen how that plays out far too many times.

One stat that really jumped out at me is their 22 sacks allowed in MAC play, tied for 9th in the league. (Ohio is 3rd with 11.) We should be able to pressure their QB.

No way the Bobcats are over confident. After all, it was just two years ago on Senior night in Athens that an Akron wide receiver who hadn't played QB since PeeWee, was thrust into action and was but a dropped pass by the star receiver in the endzone away from the Zip upset. It was for all the marbles too and Western Michigan got to beat OHIO instead of someone else in Detroit.

Couple that with Akron's victory in Akron last season and we should expect a very fired up bunch to punch the Zips ala Bowling Green, Ball State, Western Michigan and Buffalo a real beatdown by our high octane Bobcats on Friday.

With all due respect to my fellow Akron public school mate (he went to the school with their own planetarium), being bowl eligbile and mid-major continue to make me cringe. It's a shame that once you can't win your league, you can take great solace in going on a nice vacation.

So did Northwestern.

(who led 21-3 at halftime, until two 2nd-half pick-6 interceptions and a lost fumble backward into the end zone gave Akron just enough to win).

Without their QB, Akron couldn’t beat Hoban HS. Do not read too much into the BG game.

To be fair, Hoban probably recruits better.

Ohio is currently 9th in scoring, Akron is 126th. Obviously points is not a strong suit for Akron but what is? Defense Ohio is 56th and Akron is 59th so more evenly matched on that's side of the ball. Akron is 45th in pass defense yardage and 87th in run defense. They are 86th in sacks per game. Their strategy sounds like its going to have to rely on pressuring the pocket so with Rourke that probably won't work too well.

I wouldn't discount a Terry Bowden team. He could try to go for broke and try to get Ohio into a quagmire so the team can't get any rhythm going. He can't win by trading TDs I think he understands that.

Their starting QB played but was unable to run. Of course, we were all certain of a win last year when their starting QB, Thomas Woodson, was unable to play and an untested freshman was pressed into action.

Additionally, in 2016, Akron didn't have an available QB for our game at Peden and were forced to use a WR in that position. They would have beaten us if one of their best receivers hadn't dropped an on-the-numbers TD pass in the closing minute.

I certainly wasn't implying that bowl eligibility is anything to be proud of in this day and age. Just correcting the previous poster's claim that Akron couldn't reach that holy grail.

I knew that SBH. Just had to vent after receiving my "building champions" brochure in the mail with the cover photo of the Bahamas' Bowl "championship" trophy.

Whether by a point or 50-just win, baby!

This could be a game that the outcome could be obvious by the end of the 1st quarter.

Does Akron come out fired up to get a win to end their MAC schedule on a high note, with a chance to get to 6-6 against South Carolina?

Or are they just ready to pack it in for the year and go through the motions?

I want to see the Bobcats play lights out, regardless of MAC Championship appearance outcomes!

Besides, I would really like to see some beatdown payback after last year's collapse at InfoCision.

What will be most interesting is, if Miami wins tonight, how do we play on Friday?
If we have no chance to win the East and play in the MACC how motivated will our boys be to finish strong, for another 8-4 season going into a bowl game and a possible 9-4 finish for the year?
I for one am optimistic that the boys will finish strong.

This team will play hard no matter what the circumstances. They are a special group and have been enjoyable to watch. This senior class will be missed.

I can’t help but think of what would have happened if Nathan picked Akron instead of us last year. Bowden saw what Solich saw and both offered him a scholarship when nobody else did. You can say that it was an obvious choice but we don’t always get them head to head with the Zips.
We are real fortunate we got him.
