There are 71 teams that are already bowl eligible. Three games next week involve a pair of 5-6 teams, so the winners of those games will be eligible. That makes 74. Another 17 still have a chance. Based on the remaining schedules, another seven teams (SMiss, SMU, Coastal, Tulane, Wyo, Fiami and FAU) are likely to be bowl eligible. ND has a tie-in with the ACC. SMiss and VaTech play only 11 games. Ole Miss is on probation and is ineligible. Liberty played two 1AA schools so they had to win seven but can't now.

Edit: VaTech and T'erd have scheduled a game for Dec 1, conditioned on VaTech beating UVA next week. Both teams had games cancelled earlier in the season. The charts now reflect this.

Just saw that if VaTech (4-6) wins at home this week vs UVA (7-4) they'll host T'erd (7-3) on Dec 1. Both VaTech and T'erd had games cancelled earlier this year.

No problem finding enough teams this year. Nobody will be complaining about 5-7 teams getting in.

In the MAC 6-6 can be dicey but at 7 wins we are good plus the big Buffalo win last week probably keeps us past EMU and Toledo in the pecking order. There should be some nice options for us this year.

I would think the bowls would like our offensive numbers.

If memory serves what bowls really care about are fans who will follow the team and fill hotels a student block not bent on destruction, a great band to lend to the atmosphere and a commitment to buying a minimum block of tickets.

Shouldn't Akron read "eliminated?" Due to not playing Nebraska, they only have 11 games and even with a win at Ohio, they'll be 5-6 at best.
Edited to add - I see that they added a 12/1 game. I guess they never hoped to be in the MACC. :) LOL

Akron plays south Carolina on the road on Dec 1st. Not a bad last game for seniors who may not go to a bowl game. And a cherry on top for beating Big10 West champ Northwestern. And Nebraska officially sucks for playing Bethune Cookman in its last game.

Since ESPN owns the MAC tie-in bowls, eyes on screen are also a big factor for them. Offense brings viewers.

"Offense brings viewers." Yes indeed, yet "defense wins championships."

I’m not sure that these tv time fill in bowls have ticket requirements like the old bowls do. May be wrong but I don’t recall any requirements for the Bahamas bowl for instance.
They also won’t find any student block not bent on destruction so I’m not seeing that as a factor.

6-6 OU team is probably not getting the call, re: 2014 team. 7-5 or 8-4 is a lock. I don't know that OU sells more than a couple thousand bowl tickets but they are a name that people expect to see at bowl season in the early bowls.

It would be nice to get a bowl game with a Power 5 team. Maybe mid-level big 10 or similar. Chance to feature our offense and right some wrongs from this season.

Our best bet is the Frisco Bowl. I dont see Buffalo or NIU representing us in that bowl. Plus we can recruit Texas if we get the call.

I'd think that a 6-6 Fiami would move ahead any possible 6-6 team in the West (WMU, Toledo, EMU). Fiami would be 6-2 in the MAC, while the other three would only be 4-4. WMU probably has to win tomorrow night to have a shot at a bowl because of the way they've faded in November without Wassink.

This is exactly why a lot of these projections are laughable. They're just taking wild guesses.

Who really thinks they'll put Ohio vs. Troy in Dollar General Bowl AGAIN!?!?

I'd love match-up with Miami FL! Rare chance to play a CFB blue blood

Just for kicks, here are the bowls that may have slots open because some conferences may be short on eligible teams. They're generally the last ones on the conference's pecking order. Of course, lots of haggling goes on when filling bowl slots.

AAC -- Currently is one team short and will likely have UCF getting a NY6 bowl game, so it might be two teams short. Caveat: Two more AAC teams are likely to be bowl eligible this weekend.
Boca Raton vs CUSA
Cure (Orlando) vs Sun Belt

ACC -- May be two teams short because Clemson and ND (which has a bowl tie-in deal with the ACC) are currently in the top 4 for the playoff.
Gasparilla (Tampa) vs B10
First Responder (Dallas) vs B10

B12 -- Is currently one team short.
Armed Forces (Fort Worth) vs AAC

B10 -- Is currently one team short and could be two if Mich wins Saturday.
Quick Lane (Detroit) vs ACC
First Responder vs ACC

The conferences that already have more eligible teams than tie-ins are MAC (+2), MWC (+1), and Sun Belt (+1). SEC is +1 but they'll likely have a team in the playoff.

Bobcats could get a nice bowl this time if the beat Akron to finish 8-4. That would give them 2nd overall record in the MAC. Would hope for Boise or Frisco vs a solid MWC or AAC team.
