Urban Meyer beating the posse out of town (again).

Granted I know that this is a little along the lines of a conspiracy theory - I have thought this season that the board said they would not fire him, but he needed to come up with an excuse/reason to leave at the end of the season, and the whole health issue was exaggerated to be that reason.

I really don't think that's too far from the truth. The press conference ought to be interesting. I'm sure he won't give many details and will put most of the blame on his health. There HAS to be some dirty laundry underneath all of this. I don't think we will ever know the truth. Also need to take into account that he suffers from serious memory loss.

You all act like he has a history of using his health as an excuse to skip town....oh wait.

End of the day - who gives a damn - he's a con man - ship this topic to the "Who gives a F#ck" thread"

He wouldn't have any headaches, we won't expect any championships.

I've actually read his book on leadership. I think he is just a chronic obsessor/worrier to an unhealthy level and needs to step back.

But about 10% of me thinks he secretly has grown to hate OSU fans & the local media and fully intends to resurface in about 15 months.

I'll add that he hates the OSU administration/board as well. He thinks what happened this year is complete bull. He'll be coaching an SEC school soon (or someone like USC maybe?)

According to completely unsubstantiated (and just created) rumor, Urban was seen talking with Frank and Jimmy Burrow late last night at the Cat's Eye. So........?

Brando, De Niro, Lewis...Meyer?! Brilliant performance this year, Urban, though, perhaps, a bit over-the-top. It almost left me believing that Urban, indeed, has a conscience, but not so quick. It is about the kids after all -- those kids, in fact, that are bolting to the NFL to make all that money: like, well, their coach. Once again, Ohio State fans have proven that they can't have nice and shiny things. After all, the National Championship that Meyer helped win for them should be enough to avoid suspicion and, God Forbid, a suspension. Let us hope that the next head coach is able to part the Olentangy river along with having enough of an in with the Devil to win National Championship after National Championship. Meanwhile, all remains peaceful on the banks of the Hocking River.

Done in before his time and, more than anything, a hypocrite.
Not unlike his predecessor.

I agree with this. Listening to the press conference right now, everything seems too conveniently "planned".

Thanked everyone except the President and board. Sounds like a petulent child who suddenly had it reveled to him that he's not the center of the universe....or the university. Must have been a real slap to his ego when OSU's board gave the President a full bonus and raise last month. Sounds like they know who's important and who can be replaced.

Anyone that knows him sees this. It’s no longer a game at this level, but it stil has to be fun. No one wants to go to work everyday when it’s not fun, and those who do not have to financially generally doesn’t continue to go.

Granted his perceived lack of support (if true) would make any job not fun.

Just thinking that one day Frank will be retiring, calling it quits, handing over the reigns. Perhaps he will do it some August and the MAC schools can have a farewell tour and he can leave Peden with his seniors.

And now we will he treated to the sense of entitlement among so many in the Buckeye fan base....thinking OSU can pluck any coach from any school, even those on a comparable level to OSU. Has it occurred to them that maybe not everyone wants to come to Columbus?

With the quick hiring of Ryan Day, I guess I'll have to eat crow on this.

No, Tressel turned down the Akron presidency and went to YSU instead, where he hired Bo Pelini as head football coach. Even Tressel was smart enough to know that UA was a complete sink hole.

Tress was never offered Akron job. He wanted it but was being passed over so he went east.

If Taggert keeps having 5-7 seasons, don't think for a minute FSU won't consider Meyer. College football in Florida is dog eat dog.

He really is immortal in Columbus. I don't understand why nobody calls out his lies. He was quoted just a couple weeks ago as "100% returning as the head coach next year." It wasn't even like he tip toed around the question either like he likes to do. Maybe I'm naive but I just could not support a serial liar as the face of my university.

Because, as we all know, OSU has this teeming mass of unwashed t-shirt alumni that worship football, and he fed that beast. And unlike Wal-Mart Wolverines or Subway Domers, they seem to hate the actual university itself (flunked out back in OSU's open admissions days?). I skimmed through a couple of Buckeye boards last night, and there were multiple posts just foaming at the mouth in hatred of their President (and I'm sure race adds some gasoline to that fire among a portion of that crowd). All of their alumni that I know up here in Chicago--most of whom donate every year to something on the academic side--could either care less that he's leaving or at most have a "pressure's on the new guy; let's see if he's up to it" mentality. The t-shirts are something else though. One of the guys that I work with said something once that's stuck with me. He worked in Columbus for a few years after college before coming to Chicago for his MBA where he stayed afterwards. He said,"I got to the point down there where I just tuned it out. The circus that surrounded OSU football made it purely unenjoyable, and it wasn't until I came up to Chicago that I actually started watching it and being a fan again."

One of the things that's getting a lot of buzz out here in N.J. is what happens to Schiano.

There had been a lot of talk about him being Meyer's heir apparent.

Making Day the acting head coach, even though Schiano is Associate Head Coach, showed the "writing on the wall" as far as Head Coach.

Given the fact that he didn't get the Tenn. head Coaching job,he would seem to have limited options.

A lot of OSU fans want him gone, given how poor their defense was this season.

What's interesting is that a lot of RU fans wanted to try to bring him back, instead of hiring Ash.

Now RU fans want Ash gone, but they're not hot on trying to get Schiano.
