I don't remember AJ fumbling in his first game at Kent. He was the only back who didn't fumble that game if I recall correctly.
That's how I remember it.
I’m sure you two are correct. But i like me alternate reality better :)

So what was the deal with Irons? Rumors that he was sick? didn't hear any official word but couldn't hear well at the bar. Too bad for him to miss his last game.

Russ said he had heard Irons had the flu or food poisoning. What a shame he missed this final chance to play. I hope he feels better tomorrow, and it isn't serious.

That was a great performance and probably one of the best bowl effort for this program. zero penalties and shut out a team from the Mountain West Conference. MAC teams don't do well in bowls, but last two years Ohio has bucked that trend. Props to the defense pitching a shutout after struggling early in the year. Great way to build momentum into the offseason and to show recruits that haven't signed what they are missing. 9-4 record capped with an impressive bowl win. This team was 3-3 at one point in the season and finished 6-1.

Congratulations on a job well done. It was a VERY IMPRESSIVE win over a decent program from the MWC. It was also accomplished on a night when we were the only game in town and featured prominently on national TV. In short, what a way to display OUr University to the nation. It was a statement game and we more than answered the call. Again, well done and GO BOBCATS!

Sometimes teams are better than their record says, and sometimes teams are worse than their record might indicate.

And sometimes a team comes into a game with all the focus and strength of the entire universe and there is none left for the opponent.

Very impressive! Let's hope some other remaining MAC teams can pick up the slack and not have us as the only bowl winner again this year. Great game from AJ. This gives a lot of hope for what could be next year.

I agree about A.J.'s performance.

Can only imagine what would have happened if Irons was in there too.

Frank has said all year how much he loved the seniors, and they came through again. AJ...Lowery...Wood...all of 'em are gonna be missed. AJ and Lowery will be back in a few yrs for Hall of Fame inductions.
A special class for sure! Same with last year's too. As much as I b**** about no MACC, there's no argument that the team and the coach have done OHIO and its alumni proud!! On and off the field.

Great win today, 'Cats! This was a complete game by OHIO. The first shutout I can remember in a long, long time. Anyone know when we last shutout an opponent? I don't remember one during Frank's tenure, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Whatever, this a real good way to start to get ready for the 2019 season. Go OHIO!
At least two shutouts in recent seasons - over Hampton and Kent.
It looks like this was our first shutout of a non-conference, Div 1A opponent since we beat Idaho 35-0 in 1976. Idaho was in the Big Sky conference at the time but played at the 1A level according to Wikipedia. We beat Buffalo 50-0 in 1997 but that was the Bulls' last season in 1AA.

Dominating performance on both sides of the ball. Not a very common theme for Bobcat teams. Fun to watch and a great cap to the Seniors' very good 4 years.

I despair at how much we will miss Ouelette next season. We have some capable of stepping up in talent, but his selfless play was on display last night in all its glory.

Roll on 2019 season!

No MAC team had ever pitched a shutout in a bowl game until the https://twitter.com/OhioFootball?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw team pulled off the feat today against San Diego State (27-0).

Ohio now has a +199 point differential since October 20, second best in the FBS behind Clemson (+246).https://twitter.com/hashtag/BleedGreen?src=hash&ref_s... ; Stats By STATS (@StatsBySTATS) https://twitter.com/StatsBySTATS/status/10756132466048819...

Congrats on the win guys! Impressive.

THAT is how you play a bowl game. Our coach needs to get some pointers from Solich.

Nice hustlebelt article linked on the home page includes this quote:

“It’s been an honor,” Croutch said on playing for Solich. “He’s one of the best coaches in college football. To have a chance to play for Frank Solich, it’s a dream.”

And this:
Ouellette continued, “As a running back playing under a great running back, it’s just cool to learn from him through the years. Young coaches are at a school for a couple of years and then they leave. Him being here 14 years, we’ve just been lucky to have him stay around.”

What a great season! Congrats to a hell of a team and a hell of a coach.

Notable quote from the article: "The Bobcats have won 83 games over the last decade — by my count, their best decade-long FBS win total before Solich arrived was 55. In what was previously one of the hardest jobs in the MAC, Solich continues to work miracles."

The thing I will always remember about OUellette is how he came by his number, 45. He had just arrived on campus, as a walkon, and they had a few practices. He had requested some numbers, probably his high school number, and perhaps numbers belonging to favorite running backs of his. He went to pick up his equipment, and was puzzled by why he was assigned 45, a number he hadn't requested at all. When he asked why he got 45, the equipment manager told him with a twinkle in his eye that the number had been assigned by the special instruction of the head coach. 45 was Solich's number, and he wanted OUellette to wear it.

This was long before OUellette had made his appearance in a game, and before he had even earned his scholarship.

I wish the game announcers had actually known the real story. They made up something about how when he came into the Akron game his freshman year because all of the other RBs had fumblitis, Frank said, "Ouellette who"? Like Frank didn't even know who he was because he was a lowly walk-on. It's really nice when these announcers study up before the game, which unfortunately doesn't always happen in MAC telecasts.

Update on Irons- he discharged himself last night from Texas hospital to catch 9am flight against hospitals recommendation. Got home, went straight to hospital...not a virus. Hospital have run tests on both his gall bladder and appendix and are waiting for results. They are confident that it’s one or the other and surgery will be required to remove one of them. Also note that no one from the team has followed up with him on his progress, turns out Albin didn’t even know he went to the hospital in the first place.
