I wouldn't be surprised if Leopold was thinking this is his year for going undefeated. Then receive those P5 offers and getting out of Buffalo with a 7 figure deal.
Well Pal your dreams just didn't come true, your team just lost 3 out of their last 4 games, nothing to be proud of. It's going to be a long cold and snowy winter.
Maybe, just maybe, your counterpart in Men's Basketball will beat you out of Buffalo.
See you in Buffalo next year.

The MAC over the last three bowl seasons:

Ohio 2-1
Fiami 0-1
Akron 0-1
Buffalo 0-1
CMU 0-2
EMU 0-2
WMU 0-2
NIU 0-2
Toledo 0-3
This is why I wish Ohio would have been matched up with a quality bowl opponent the last two years. UAB and SDSU were mediocre at best and offered no challenge whatsoever and both Ohio teams would have been primed to beat much better bowl opponents. It's disappointing because Ohio's non-conference schedules are often equally disappointing. Ohio's been the best team in the MAC the last two years and won't have a true marquee win to show for it.
Given the MAC-aligned bowls, Ohio’s options are severely limited. The best opponent a MAC team played this bowl season is probably Troy (BYU by their standards had a subpar year). Well, we’ve played Troy twice already in bowls. Had we played them again I think a lot of us (me at least) would’ve understandably reacted with a “ugh, Troy again?!” reaction. And there would be little excitement. At least SDSU was a “name” opponent that Ohio had never played before. Plus, not only did SDSU defeat a ranked opponent earlier in the season, up until now they had never lost to a MAC team in their history. And most prognosticators had this matchup rated as fairly even. So Ohio winning this game was not a given.

You are characterizing coach "Leipold" as another Fleck. My impression of coach Leipold is he is more like coach Solich or Craig Bohl than Fleck. Thirty-one years coaching mostly at Wisconson- Whitewater and Nebraska-Omaha. I believe he chose Buffalo as Solich chose Ohio and Bohl chose Wyoming, intending to build something.

Is it just me or is Tyree Jackson being overly touted? I've watched him against Ohio,Northern Illinois and Troy and have been underwhelmed.

Jackson has a big arm and overall size, but as a QB, he's certainly no better than number three in the MAC. I can't imagine any team looking at him to transfer to make them suddenly a contender. I would pick at least Rourke and Ragland before him. Maybe Doege too.

He makes poor decisions, is not accurate and doesn't play big in big games. Nathan was robbed, but to the victors go the spoils.

Yes, I think it will be the only MAC bowl win. But let's at least be fair about the criticism, Ohio has had two very favorable bowl opponents the past two years. UAB was in its first year back from the dead and SDSU has resembled road kill the second half of the season. That's not to discredit Ohio's wins, but if the rest of the MAC got to play UAB last year and SDSU this year, there would have been other MAC wins.
I don't know about this. The Ohio teams that played both bowl games were healthy and seemed to have very good game plans. They also matched up very well against both teams they played. UAB's weakness was defending the run game. THe Cats will exploit that no other MAC team. SDSU relied heavily on the run. You need to throw to beat the Cats. I'm not so sure the matchups would have been so favorable for other MAC teams.

I agree. Going in, I felt like SDSU was a bad matchup, given that Ohio this year has had more trouble playing against teams with good defenses than against teams with good offenses. Probably the best team a MAC team played in a bowl was BYU, but after that I think SDSU was second best. Ohio just played very well, and it showed in the result.

What surprised me was that SDSU didn't test our secondary much. I remember only one deep pass that was overthrown by about five yards. I don't know if it was our secondary improving, our line turning up the pressure, their game plan, or a combination of these.

SDSU was without two important linemen -- one on offense and the other on defense -- but I don't think their presence would've made much difference.

Trivia Question: Pick the teams bowl game listed attendance (from Yahoo sports). Where was OHIO, the only team to win their game?

31k
22k
18k
17k
13k
11k

One in Bahamas, one in Idaho--poor flight availability. Which team traveled the best or played an opponent close to the venue.

Who had the worst attendance?

Gauging from the crowd BYU took to Boise I'd guess it was 31K. EMU's game seemed well attended so I'd guess it was 22k. Troy always brings a bunch to Mobile: 18k. Bahamas was an easy daytrip for FIU's crowd: 17k. I doubt that we had the worst attendance: 13k. NIU-UAB in Boca: 11k.

Well our game had the worse weather and had the two teams that had to travel the most distance, and it was a weekday, so what did you expect?

Here’s the crazy thing. Ohio will be more well known and more positively thought of nationwide (and for good reason) as having been the only MAC team to have won a bowl game (really, multiple bowl games) over the last 3 years. The fact they haven’t won a MACC in 50 years will probably be irrelevant to most casual observers.

Sacriligeous thought: I really really want Ohio to win a MACC. But the way things are going, is it really necessary?

Now back to the consumption of XMas Ales......
This is my thinking. Ohio's performance on national TV during bowl week I think has a lot more bearing on national exposure than a MACC.

While a MACC certainly is important, I think those not closely following the MAC really don't know (or care) who won the title, but they do pay attention to who plays well in the bowl games.

MAC teams not named Ohio are 0-15 in its last 15 bowls games, getting outscored 543-233. Yikes.

The last bowl win for a MAC team other than Ohio was WMU in 2015.

From 1981 through 2003 the MAC was in one or two bowl games a year and had a 14-12 record. The top one or two teams in the MAC could compete with the top teams in the other non-"P" conferences. But since the bowl game expansion started in 2004 the MAC is 20-54. From 2007 through 2009 the MAC lost 14 in a row. The top half of the MAC hasn't kept up with the other conferences.
