Doesn't Cincinnati still owe us a trip to Athens for football as well? I seem to remember that can getting kicked down the road a couple of years ago.
That should be a fun one.

Season ticket sales opened to non-renewals this week. Looks like the wing sections are pretty much gobbled up as they are cheap cheap. Main grandstand still has a lot, but that may not last.

Talk on the WVU board to just buy our season tickets: https://247sports.com/college/west-virginia/board/103745/...

If you're on the fence about buying season tickets, I'd act soon.

Just so I'm clear: a fanbase is seriously discussing buying season tickets just to Ohio football just to get in the door, and there are people here who think that fact that WVU is coming to Peden was a bad deal by the AD?

Got it.

Pretty sure it's not happening anymore...At least according to FBSchedules.

This will be a financial boon for the department. season tix are more expensive just because of this game. This will be worse than marshall's first visit. half the stadium will be wvu fans.

Yes, UC cancelled one game with Ohio and two with WKU when the B12 went to 9 game schedules. WKU, we know, received a $500000 cancellation fee. One article expected that out cancellation fee should have been in the same ballpark but we should, I would think, also be receiving the equivalent of a game payout on top of that since we already played the away end.

Next year, the department has a dilemma in how to handle this. I don't even with the extra payout that we are buying a game with an FBS team. So that means play two P5 payout games and have 5 home games or buy two FCS games. Yes, I know, we do have the option of signing two home and home series with the home game first on both contracts. That just pushes the problem into the future. Sooner or later we are buying an FBS game, buying two FCS games, or playing only 5 home games.

By all means we should bitch about hosting a power 4 team.

On the contrary, I'm stoked it's WVU. I feel like there could be a natural rivalry there, one we never really get a chance to explore. Geographically. Culturally. WVU is right over the border. They will be in Athens in force. That's good for every business in the area. WVU will bring more to Athens than almost any other P5 that comes to town.

Of course - if we win, we'll never see another P5 team in Peden again LOL but I think we should always be trying to find ways to get WVU on the schedule for athletics.

This is the one non-con game they have a shot at, would be incredible to take them out. Now I just have to convince my wife that I need to attend back-to-back games with the boys.

My timeline and memory of facts may be off, but I believe there was a time in the 1990s when Ohio under Larry Hunter and West Virginia under Gale Catlett, played almost yearly in basketball. And I believe Ohio would win their share of games before Catlett decided to end the border series. I also remember cars with W. Va. plates backed up on Richland Ave. on their way to the Convo.

Of course, this may be a little bit (or a lot) off from the actual truth.

In this century we've beaten at least two P4s -- Pittsburgh and Iowa State -- in Peden, so I don't think a win over WVU will deter others, if we make the right deal with them. I don't think Kentucky would ever come to Peden, but lower-level B10/18 teams like Purdue, Indiana, and Northwestern are possibilities. We did have a home game with Minnesota, once upon a time. And, Iowa State might come back; we've played them several other times at home. The Cyclones have even played in Akron, so their bar ain't too high! ;-)

Since 2000, the Bobcats have played against 7 Power Conference teams in Peden and has gone 3-4 in those games (Played UCONN in 09 when they were in the Big East). If OU were to win against WVU that would put them at 4-4 in Power Conference games in Peden with 3 of those coming in the past 9 seasons (Kansas, Iowa State and potentially WVU). Recent history would tell me its a mistake for a P4 team to come to Peden.

Oh, yes, how could I forget about the mighty Kansas Jayhawkers! If memory serves, we beat them at their place a year or two earlier. I believe they are one of only two P4 schools that we have an all-time winning record against. The other being Illinois, who we lead all-time 3-2. I think we are 3-0 against Kansas. The first win coming when I was in school in 1967. None of them were nail-bitters either. We own Kansas! ;-)

Pretty good showing since Solich, only stinker was in a down year after Solich retired.

2023 Iowa State - W 10-7
2021 Syracuse - L 29-9
2017 Kansas - W 42-30
2005 Pittsburgh - W 16-10

Not counting Uconn, not a major football program.

If we played this game in December last year (in Peden), I think Vegas would've had this close to a pick em if not have us favored. I don't know much about WVU's offseason, and I know we have a lot of changes including the coaching staff, but I'm confident we can take them down.

Not just discussing it. Mountaineer fans have done it. And in large numbers. I personally bought 4 season tickets just to attend the one game.

The season tickets for OU cost $55 each. Face value on individual game tickets at Mountaineer Field are basically that per game.

WVU season tickets are $380 plus a seat licensing fee starting at $125 except for corner/endzone seats. That put the true minimum cost per game up to north of $84 per game.

WVU also has some of the highest ticket prices on the secondary market in the country. Most games the Stubhub or other site prices are $45-50 for the "bad" seats and go much higher for premium seats and games.

Right now the cheapest seat for WVU-Pitt on Stubhub is $277. Take a lesser opponent like Robert Morris and it is $65. And a conference opponent in TCU is at $102 to sit in the end zone.

So buying a OU season ticket at $55-75 is a very affordable way to see the Mountaineers play close to home especially for those that live in the southern and western parts of West Virginia. Two examples:

Charleston, WV to Athens, OH - 88 miles
Charleston, WV to Morgantown, WV - 156 miles

Parkersburg, WV to Athens, OH - 40 miles
Parkersburg, WV to Morgantown, WV - 111 miles

I always enjoy visiting Athens but must admit most of my trips don't deviate far from Jackie O's or Little Fish Brewing. What other tips and suggestions do you have related to gamedays in Athens?

Checking Ohiobobcats.com I found only 900 season tickets remaining with 30 days to go in the season ticket presale. 22 season tickets total remain on the student side. This is after shrinking the student section down from 6,000 seats to only 3,500 for this season. Luckily there is still an opportunity to pick up Phillips Club or Tower Club seats adjacent to each other so act fast.

AD is using this years WVU as an excuse to raise season ticket prices for the first time in years and honestly they are not bad prices. Tower Club is only $75 dollars a game with a portion of that tax deductable counting toward the OBC.

I bought season tickets for the first time ever this year - 2 for $100 each, largely to make sure I could go to the WVU game.

Same here, I live in Buffalo and got Ohio season tickets for the first time since I was a student at OU just so I could attend the WVU game. I'm sure there's lots of people doing the same.

I doubt this factors into the equation much, but Coach Campbell's Ohio background can't hurt. Playing games at MAC schools gives him a chance to have friends and family see him in action easier than points elsewhere. His time at Toledo maybe gave him a good perspective on how much a P5 home game for MAC schools can mean.

Don't be surprised if WVU has 40 % of the fans in Peden on game day.

Maybe just the 110 and WVU fans on the student side after halftime if the game goes badly. Hopefully, they have sufficient security.

Not sure how saying the entire student side might be WVU fans except for the 110 after halftime is an under estimate.? Think they’ll move the 110 and it’ll be 100%?

If this game is close at half, I don't expect the halftime exodus we get for other games.
