This will be a financial boon for the department. season tix are more expensive just because of this game. This will be worse than marshall's first visit. half the stadium will be wvu fans.

By all means we should bitch about hosting a power 4 team.

On the contrary, I'm stoked it's WVU. I feel like there could be a natural rivalry there, one we never really get a chance to explore. Geographically. Culturally. WVU is right over the border. They will be in Athens in force. That's good for every business in the area. WVU will bring more to Athens than almost any other P5 that comes to town.

Of course - if we win, we'll never see another P5 team in Peden again LOL but I think we should always be trying to find ways to get WVU on the schedule for athletics.

This is the one non-con game they have a shot at, would be incredible to take them out. Now I just have to convince my wife that I need to attend back-to-back games with the boys.

In this century we've beaten at least two P4s -- Pittsburgh and Iowa State -- in Peden, so I don't think a win over WVU will deter others, if we make the right deal with them. I don't think Kentucky would ever come to Peden, but lower-level B10/18 teams like Purdue, Indiana, and Northwestern are possibilities. We did have a home game with Minnesota, once upon a time. And, Iowa State might come back; we've played them several other times at home. The Cyclones have even played in Akron, so their bar ain't too high! ;-)

Oh, yes, how could I forget about the mighty Kansas Jayhawkers! If memory serves, we beat them at their place a year or two earlier. I believe they are one of only two P4 schools that we have an all-time winning record against. The other being Illinois, who we lead all-time 3-2. I think we are 3-0 against Kansas. The first win coming when I was in school in 1967. None of them were nail-bitters either. We own Kansas! ;-)

The season tickets for OU cost $55 each. Face value on individual game tickets at Mountaineer Field are basically that per game.

WVU season tickets are $380 plus a seat licensing fee starting at $125 except for corner/endzone seats. That put the true minimum cost per game up to north of $84 per game.

WVU also has some of the highest ticket prices on the secondary market in the country. Most games the Stubhub or other site prices are $45-50 for the "bad" seats and go much higher for premium seats and games.

Right now the cheapest seat for WVU-Pitt on Stubhub is $277. Take a lesser opponent like Robert Morris and it is $65. And a conference opponent in TCU is at $102 to sit in the end zone.

So buying a OU season ticket at $55-75 is a very affordable way to see the Mountaineers play close to home especially for those that live in the southern and western parts of West Virginia. Two examples:

Charleston, WV to Athens, OH - 88 miles
Charleston, WV to Morgantown, WV - 156 miles

Parkersburg, WV to Athens, OH - 40 miles
Parkersburg, WV to Morgantown, WV - 111 miles

I always enjoy visiting Athens but must admit most of my trips don't deviate far from Jackie O's or Little Fish Brewing. What other tips and suggestions do you have related to gamedays in Athens?

AD is using this years WVU as an excuse to raise season ticket prices for the first time in years and honestly they are not bad prices. Tower Club is only $75 dollars a game with a portion of that tax deductable counting toward the OBC.

Same here, I live in Buffalo and got Ohio season tickets for the first time since I was a student at OU just so I could attend the WVU game. I'm sure there's lots of people doing the same.

Don't be surprised if WVU has 40 % of the fans in Peden on game day.

I think you under estimate how many WVU fans will be there.

If this game is close at half, I don't expect the halftime exodus we get for other games.
