I wanted to give it a listen, but noticed this week's edition of the Frank Solich Show isn't up yet to be listened to on demand. Hopefully, next week's show will be up a day or so after the show like usual.

Yeah, that was a problem for me too. I tried to listen live but several of the options like stretch internet and Tunein were not working. I was able to find the local athens channel through twitter but by then the coaches part of the show was over

GAME DAY, FOLKS!

Rhody will be a tough FCS opponent. They will test the Cats throughout all four quarters.

Prediction:
Rhode Island 24 OHIO 42

Yeah, I wasn’t able to get the pre-game to play through ohiobobcats.com. Listening to the game through the TuneIn Radio smartphone app now.

They provided some links on the Ohio Football facebook page.
I’ll copy and paste the post below:

Underwhelming but Ohio teams usually get stronger as the season goes on

Parker is the real deal. He looks better than any receiver we've ever had.

Some good, some bad, today, but the Offense looked effective. The RBs and WRs looked good, and the OL improved as the game went on, plus Rourke had a very good game. My biggest concern was that, outside of Cole Baker, the inside of the defensive line didn't control the line of scrimmage. I note that when Ohio got a big lead, they went to the second team, but not to a prevent defense.

Felt like a pretty uneventful first ballgame. RBs had some good moments, defense was alright, Rourke was solid. Nice to see Zervos hit his kicks as well.

Avoided injuries too.

1-0, as expected.

Onto Pittsburgh.

His long TD looked identical to runs in his highlight tape that had me very hyped about his potential to contribute immediately.

Only 16K on a sunsplashed home opener? The student side looked full on the broadcast. The press box side looked surprisingly thin.

Frank’s gotten predictable in his old age. The old zone knows he doesn’t lose to FCS opponents so they decided to stay home.

So you're saying we should occasionally lose to the FCS?

All the big-time programs get upset by the FCS every once in a blue moon... Dominating lower divisions is so mid-major!

It was somnolent too. Deadest Saturday crowd of the Solich era. Snoozer of a game, to be fair.

Yeah the interior defensive line looks scary. Better improve a lot in one week.

The worst part of the game was the attendance. I can't remember a sunny home opener in the Solich era with fewer in attendance. And the people who were there were even more quiet than usual. Are we not saying Ohio when the announcer says first down anymore?

I have tailgated with the same group for over 10 years. Not one of the group renewed their season tickets. Many were highly agitated (like it was 3rd down) over the $400.00 reservation fee to guarantee a spot in Tailgreat. There were 15 reserved spaces today. That's $6,000.00. Just one of my friends I tailgated with donated more than that and he did not renew this year.

So I hope the defensive line and the attendance gets better.

Just back in Cincinnati after the game.

Based on today, this is definitely not a championship team.

The crowd was about as lame as could be.

Both lines need a lot of work.

I think this has come up before why is the band not able to play the fight song when the team comes out? They should either be on the field or in their seats. I find a definite lack of excitement at our games anymore.

Worst 40+ point performance ever!

Every Rourke-led drive ended in points. I like that very much.

Only thing worse than the crowd today was the overwhelming presence of the state hwy patrol on Rt. 33 between Lancaster and Athens. Wouldn't be exaggerating if I say I saw around a dozen cars pulled over by a trooper down and back. Not to mention the Beirut-like security around Peden we all are getting used to.

Fair point. It is rare and nice when the punter is never used in a game.

Much of the crowd was relatives of HS band members there for band day. One woman behind me asked if this was the Convocation Center.

Yeah, there's a lot of room for improvement. URI had way too much TOP in the first half. We had only one possession in the first 20+ minutes of the game. The D has to do a better job of getting off the field.

Offensively we did well. I think we scored on our first seven drives (except for the kneel down at the end of the 1st half).

I was really impressed with Allison. He looked a lot like Maleek.

The video screen has good res but is VERY busy with three ads down the side, the stat bar across the top and the video underneath it. They should use different colors for the teams' scores, the down-distance-ball on, and the quarter.

A thought to help liven up the crowd: Put cheerleaders or students who are very vocal in the west stands. Our son joined us for the second half after band relatives had cleared out and REALLY participated in all the cheers. It became contagious and another 15 or 20 people joined in.
