Forget the fairgrounds stuff, inquiring minds want to know about the big announcement SBH and BTC were hinting at today. What's the scoop.
This thread is a perfect encapsulation of this board.

A bunch of people more than willing to publicly gossip about the ADs interpersonal relationships with her colleagues, and speculate based on things they've heard third-hand.

But when they know actual, concrete details of a major project? Can't share that.

It's too bad Athens can't figure out how to monetize petty gossip, because it's got an abundance of it.

And we got the BTC special on this board. When someone else hints at inside info, he jumps in to let you know that he knows it as well, but offers exactly zero inside information. When/if it comes out, he'll be sure to let you know he knew about it all along.

Her legacy at Ohio University will be mistreating the best hire she had in her six years in Athens. This football program because of Tim Albin is in the best shape the program has been in 60 years. Most administrators would do everything possible to keep the two time league coach of the year. However, the AD preferred to treat the womens basketball coach with a dreadful record the last four years better than she did the Football Coach who was second to none in MAC winning percentage during his stay in Athens. I have said it before, if Rod McDavis or Duane Nellis was still running Ohio University, this would never have happened.

There's a significant accomplishment that is in the works now and will become public soon from what I've been told. Sad that she won't be here to make the announcement herself.
This makes the timing of her departure all the more curious.

I'd speculate that it *might* be like the departure of a certain dean years ago that was widely viewed by the rest of campus as a success. This dean's departure on the surface appeared to be voluntary but was in reality forced by the president. The culture that this dean created internally and the way subordinates were treated were the factors that caused the president to act, after input from the ombudsman. Perhaps, something similar might have been at play here. The only inside info I have is about the nature of the work environment and Julie's treatment of subordinates. The rest of this post is total speculation on my part, no additional inside skinny to inform it.
You could not be more wrong. Had the opportunity to briefly speak with President Gonzalez a couple of weeks ago. She told me that Julie Cromer is by far the best AD she's ever worked with and that Cromer is held in extremely high regard by other MAC presidents and ADs as well as the league leadership. I don't know everyone in the department but I do know a few very well. They said she was tough but very fair, smart and visionary. She pushed everyone to establish and pursue "stretch goals" within their areas of responsibility. If/when this football announcement happens, a lot of minds will be changed. There are equally impressive plans in place that will impact basketball. But it will take money first. I know the university is working hard on it.

Ok, based on your input, I'm willing admit that my speculation was probably off target. I do stand by my statement about the climate she created in the office and that she mistreated subordinates. But, if this "big announcement" comes to fruition, maybe I'll conclude it was all worth it.

Well, this is good news. Cromer was no credit to Ohio University and did more damage than good, IMHO. I don't think she'll be missed. I would support Amy Dean to get the position. She's a good administrator and is an OHIO gal through and through.

Though it pains me, I agree with SBH that Claude Sowle was the worst OHIO prez of the 20th Century and into the 21st Century. There were some dudes back in the 19th Century who were right up there with Sowle. I often summarize Sowle's presidency as making the worst out of a bad situation. Nellis was just kind of meh.
Help me understand what damage she did. And I don't want to hear any of the Albin bullshit.
Was just meh. Didn't do much of anything, except polish up her NCAA resume. Was not liked by her employees, and fostered a not-so-good work environment in the ADs office. This information was gathered totally independently of Bobcat1996.
The biggest problem with the “culture” in the athletic department is not the work environment but the fact that half the staff does not live in or close to Athens. Some even live in Cincinnati. Both coaches and staff are living farther and farther away. No one wants to live there. I can’t blame them, but it’s going to be impossible to advance the athletic department like this.

Seeing all these discussions about lack of middle class housing in Athens County, OH like it's not something that is a problem in literally every state in the US (except maybe the South where the economy isn't the best). A "middle-class" house in Seattle proper doesn't even exist. I'm renting a home where the perceived value of the land is worth more than the actual structure, according to property tax records. The house next door was torn down and three new houses are being built on top of it on the same lot and they'll all go for at least $900K, probably $1M.

Housing in this country is absolutely F'd and it doesn't matter where you live.

Anyway, I hope this BIG NEWS everyone keeps talking about is a gift for a basketball practice facility so our boys don't have to lace up at Athens High School or wherever they go just to get some court time.

Those are pretty serious accusations. Earlier in this thread you posited they were serious enough that the President may have quietly forced Cromer out. Surely you recognize how serious a suggestion that is, and what having that information out in the world publicly could do to her reputation, right?

It feels like evidence is pretty important, regardless of how much you trust your source.

The hyper financialization of all sectors over the last 4 decades has led to a sitution where it takes 2 times the area median income in some of the country to purchase a new construction house. A new build with no lot is 1.5 million in my neighborhood. At 30% DTI that would require roughly 420,000 while the AMI is 162,000. That's 260% AMI if you're not factoring in down payment. To make it work its two incomes with 15 years of experience close to peak earnings with student loans paid off. In some communities its allowable by right to convert your dwelling up to 4 units and that is viewed as an option taking an 800k tear down and converting it into 4 condos to sell off at 500k a piece to create "middle class" housing. 60% or 30% AMI apartment buildings more closely satisfy what is generally visualized by many as middle class, making a livable wage and clearly above the poverty level. This is DC mind you where the politics are there to go all in on affordable housing. I don't know what is going on in Fairfax County as I've never lived there or owned anything there.

The source gave me a few examples. If I were to talk about those examples it would potentially reveal their identities, and unlike Cromer they are not high-level administrators who deserve public scrutiny. You might also note that another poster who has lots of street cred on this board (even though he is a dogfaced grunt) indicated that he had heard much the same thing as my source told me.

I don't follow. You can't provide examples of the improper behavior without revealing identities? I'm not asking for a transcript. Just actual anecdotes of this behavior.

Did she yell? Insult them? Threaten them? Maybe I'm just missing something, but I don't understand how a leader created a "culture" and there are all these rumors, but nobody can even cite a type of behavior.
