I've, historically, been indifferent to Ohio State. If they won, fine. If they lost, no big deal.

What changed for me was the Tressel era. All of a sudden these Ohio State "fans" would show up with Ohio State gear at every event or watering hole and act like every game was life or death. Who were these people?

I started going up to each of them and ask: "What year did you graduate from Ohio State?"

I would always get this dumb unresponsive look often followed by some "O-H-I-O" chant where I repaeated my question: "When did You gradutate from Ohio State?"

So the real answer I never received was "I didn't" which is the ultimate reason to root against Ohio State.

And yes, I apologize to anyone who actually did graduate from Ohio State. You have every reason to be proud and support your team. I can only imagine how horrified you are by idiots wearing buckeye necklaces and Ohio State gear that have never seen the inside of an Ohio State classroom.

On the other hand, I'd bet that most people who root for a college football team didn't graduate from that school considering only 34% of the American population has a college degree. But agree about the life and death attitude about every game.

I root for their medical personnel who performed surgery on me last Wednesday and who are treating a relative of mine for cancer.

Otherwise, no.

These results are not surprising on this board. Generally speaking in my experience, those Ohio alums who root for OSU do not care at all about Ohio athletics and therefore would not be on this board. If we were somehow able to present this poll to all Ohio alums it would be depressing results.

I have a relative who fits this mold pretty well-hops around on different bandwagons. He married into the family during the Cowboys early 90s heydey and would always be decked out in an Aikman or Smith jersey. Haven't seen him in anything Cowboys in over 20 years.

I had on an Ohio sweatshirt one year at Christmas. He asked me who it was, confused. After telling him who it was he was still puzzled why I was wearing it, which I then replied a little bluntly "because I actually go to school there." He probably wants a Lamar Jackson jersey from Santa this year.

Sad but true.

I cheer for UC, Tennessee, Clemson and Iowa for a variety of reasons.

But I bleed green above all.

"My" teams are Ohio, Stanford and the service academies.

When I see someone wearing OSU apparel, I tend to think the odds are no better than 50-50 that that person either went to OSU or has a relative who is a student or alum.

On the contrary, when I see someone wearing Ohio apparel - or BG, Kent, Akron, Ohio Wesleyan, etc - I tend to think that the wearer is an alum or has a relative who is a student or alum.

I root for them weakly! ;-)
This is the perfect answer, and it applies to me during basketball season. Mostly because the majority of the OSU "fans" suddenly disappear or are silent when conversation shifts to basketball, baseball, academics, or the medical center.

During football season, this absolutely applies:
Not no, but hell no.

In fact, living in Central Ohio, my single least favorite day of the year is OSU/Michigan day.

Admittedly, I reluctantly rooted for them to beat Michigan...only because I want for LSU to crush their title hopes in the playoffs...bwahaahaa....
