BINGO! Figure in mortgage, property taxes, and simple operating overhead, 3 Million over 10 years is not much revenue.

I'm taking a gander at attempting to get inns reserved for the fall. Continuously a procedure is required when reserving for fall football match-ups. There is some accessibility in Athens yet for the few days of the UMass game. Friday and Saturday night at the Super 8 is posting for $310 every night. That inn is actually in Athens yet unquestionably not inside waling separation to Peden Stadium.

The Prokos family built the hotel, they have put their rental offices on the ground floor and seem to bei doing quite well. They will not struggle at being over 25% occupancy, some of you underestimate how bad the room shortage still is most of the year.

Since we are on this subject and this board is a wealth of knowledge....

What led to the demise of what is now Bromley Hall?

It was originally built I understand as a hotel by The Bromley Group sold to a group that made it into The College Inn, back to Bromley then OU bought it in 2001 I believe.

Was this well patronized in its heyday?

I didn't ever know much about its history when I was at OU, but it was apartments at the time and then turned into dorms. I can't say much about the hotel history but here's a story from 2001 about the university's purchase:

When I was at O.U. in the mid 1970's Bromley was a private dorm.

Big thing was that it had its own pool.

To my knowledge (will defer to OCF here, as long as he does not tie this into Grant or the 178th OHIO Regement), Bromley was never a hotel.

As I understand it, Bromley was developed by a NYC financier whose son had enrolled at OU. The father was astonished by the dearth of housing options and saw it as an investment opportunity. It was never a hotel; always a dorm and a successful one at that.

Tragically, his son was killed in an auto accident in/near Athens, and the father sold it to another investor, who renamed it The College Inn. It remained private until 2001 when the university purchased it.

In 1965 Bromley was a privately owned dorm. First co-ed dorm in Athens, men and women on separate floors. Separate elevators for men’s and women’ floors

Yes, you are correct about everything here, except my ancestors' regiment was the 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, not the 178th! ;-)  After their veteran furlough, they were the 78th Veteran Volunteer Infantry.  But, to the point, Bromley was never anything but a dorm.  It was, as othes have said, originally a private dorm.   I did not know, or had forgotten, the sad story about the original owner's child.
