This really was an ugly, ugly game. GWU was 5-5 on 4th downs and bombed us. We had 710 yards but they had 555. But things could be worse. Both Toledo and Miami got whipped very late in tight games.
This game should have been a 38-17 but with GW's unusual decision to go for it on 4th instead of kick FG's and be successful with it continued to push Ohio all game leading to Ohio needing more scores to keep it comfortable. GW coaching staff should get credit for the gameplan. Sieh and Duncan did have breakout games and quick scoring drives. Almost 50 points scored from the 2nd quarter on is a satisfactory performance against an FCS program.
If our D doesn't get more stops on 4th down, we'll see opponents going on 4th down a lot more. We've stopped the opposition only twice in 12 tries -- once at O$U and once yesterday. And the other ten haven't all been 4th and short. One was a fake punt, but that still leaves nine where our D has been beaten straight up.
