Disappointing news. He showed a lot of potential this year.

Damn I hate to see this. Kid has potential and this offense needs some playmakers.

It has never been easier to transfer wherever one wants without any penalty of sitting out. Seems like any remotely talented players jump from MAC-level conferences to a higher league whenever they want.

College sports = free agency

I have little doubt that Hooks hooks up with a higher-level school. But I also think this year might pose a bit more of a challenge for such moves with schools potentially having extra players on scholarship due to the NCAA allowing seniors to return next season with an extra year of eligibility. I think it's going to be interesting to see how this affects transfers.

I'll be interested in seeing where he ends up. Obviously he has the measurables and big play ability, so I'm sure many teams will be interested in pursuing, assuming they have the roster space.

I sort of understand why from Hooks POV since he basically got a free year and doesn't have to sit out and that he thinks he can showcase his potential on a "better team" or "higher level team" but time will tell.

Sad to see him go. Kid had an endless amount of potential.

I don’t think it’s puzzling at all. This offensive coaching staff starting at Solich then Albin to Isphording are in the dark ages with regards to offense. A receiver, tightend, or passing style QB should think real hard before going to Ohio! Their talents and opportunities will be wasted! This is an option first team and breaking out of that mold will require new blood on the staff. It’s sad to see how this staff waste a talented coach like Coach Dixon. I think he has a tremendous amount to offer receivers and does a great job coaching them up. But then all they do is block for running backs and running QB’s. I’ll never understand why Baby Rourke came here. Was it is only option??? These coaches will squander his passing talents and he will be broke in half running the ball. Why do you think they brought Armani in? He’s the mold they want...run the ball boys run the ball!

And yet, Nathan Rourke was fourth in the MAC in passing attempts and passing yards in 2019: https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/conferences/mac/2019... while Ohio ranked #2 in the conference in total offense. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/conferences/mac/2019...

Agreed. Hard to forecast all the unintended consequences of how the extra scholarship year will play out for transfers, jucos and hs recruits.

I actually think both sides can be right on this.

The 2020 team averaged <20 pass attempts per game. I could see a receiver being frustrated with the lack of touches. I know they were being very conservative with the new QBs, but sometimes there are unintended consequences.

It might also be a good time to consider moving Julian Ross to WR.

I can see that - and it made sense to throw less given the circumstances in 2020 - but I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for the coaching staff to convince the receivers that they expect a strong passing attack in year two for Kurtis Rourke.

And such a large sample size. What, 3 games in 2020?

If the season continued with Rourke injured do you think they would've thrown more frequently?

I actually think this would have changed some over time with all the QBs. But couldn't see Rodgers throwing more than 20 times per game unless they were a couple of scores down early.

Sanders will be a train wreck, just like he was at the prep school he coached.

Ohio has interesting passing stats over the past nine years. Ohio has thrown a lot less per game over the past four seasons, but getting better production per attempt.

Ohio's national ranking among 1A teams in pass attempts:

2012 -- 75th (30.9)
2013 -- 64th (32.7)
2014 -- 75th (31.3)
2015 -- 78th (31.0)
2016 -- 59th (32.7)
2017 -- 109th (24.7)
2018 -- 118th (23.8)
2019 -- 108th (25.8)
2020 -- 123rd (18.0)

Ohio's national ranking among 1A teams in yds per attempt

2012 -- 37th (7.8)
2013 -- 46th (7.5)
2014 -- 88th (6.6)
2015 -- 51st (7.5)
2016 -- 78th (6.9)
2017 -- 45th (7.6)
2018 -- 10th (8.7)
2019 -- 13th (8.6)
2020 -- 35th (8.1)

Hooks just got some big-time competition. Jackson St got a commit from 4-star WR Trevonte Rucker from Ocala, FL. He's #189 in the 247 Sports ranking and is the highest rated player ever to commit to JSU.

Is Sanders the only reason he went? I don't get it, why would a promising G5 WR drop down to FCS? It would be different if he wasn't cutting it in FBS.
There has to be more to it than our "offense" (especially given a 3 game season as the "benchmark"). If Rourke can stay healthy, we can have one of the best passing quarterbacks in recent Bobcat history.

Seems a bad move to me, but they are just kids.

Athens isn't for everybody as much as most of us love it. Athens during the pandemic could make a young student be even more homesick.
