Coughlin Automotive has given six O$Uers (C.J. Stroud, Chris Olave, Miyan Williams, Zach Harrison, Haskell Garrett and Teradja Mitchell) new cars as part of an NIL deal. In return the players will participate in "community outreach" activities, such as fundraisers, toy drives, etc.
Paging, Don Wood!
Actually that would be your old Honda dealer Ray Eubanks (???? If my memory has not failed me). Like I said, we are poorly positioned here in Athens for NIL, and when this gets going, it will hurt us, even against MAC competition.
Too bad Athens County native Fred Beasley, then the nation's largest Ford dealer with 50 dealerships in Ohio and surrounding states, is not still alive.
Yeah, probably be as solid a supporter as they were with naming the Convocation Center.

It wasn't for lack of money that this fell through. I happen to know some of the family dynamics that were in play. In my comment above I was speaking of Fred in his prime, not in his declining years, which unfortunately were filled with real and imagined issues.

Never said it was a lack of money. More like lack of commitment from the family. Which was my entire point.

But, not a lack of commitment from Fred himself, which was my point.

Did you used to slam your parents car door on your head as a child for fun?

The horseless carriage had not yet been invented.

They were talking about the NIL issue on The Sports Edge yesterday.

Now there are high school kids looking to cash in.

Apparently one of the top QB's in high school is from Texas.

They don't allow NIL for high school kids.

He's going to skip his senior year of football, graduate early and enroll in OSU.

According to the host, he'll make more in NIL the the salaries of his HS coaching staff combined.
I've been monitoring this kid and his situation. It really is a shame that this is what it's come down to.

While I certainly don't blame him for cashing in, its an awful, awful look and truly makes me sad that he is giving up maybe the most memorable year of his life for an easy buck.

Kid is supposedly the #1 prospect in his recruiting class at the most desirable/marketable position, he would have plenty of time to cash in.

This is the new norm, crazy that we're going to have a lot more 18 year old kids walking around with 6-7 figure bank accounts. What could go wrong?
What am I missing here? Don't kids recategorize all the time in football/basketball? Is the only thing that makes this sad the fact that he's going to get paid in the meantime?

I know nothing about this kid, but when talented people who have worked extremely hard get compensated for that, "sad" isn't the word that comes to mind for me.
They typically play out their senior season, no? Enroll in the winter months. Might be a little different for basketball but they can leave college after a year anyway.

It is sad. This kid is supposedly the next Peyton Manning, we're talking one of the best prospects out of high school, ever. Plenty of time for fame and fortune.

I'm not sad for the kid, thought that was implied. Sad the money now trickles down into the high school level and more and more kids will be bought out of arguably the best year of their lives.
Before the NIL rule went into effect, one of the top quarterbacks in the country, a USC commit, transferred from California to Valdosta, GA. To be eligible, his parents had to legally separate, and his dad had to quit his job and move across the country.

If you think the money is just now trickling down, I've got some bad news for you.
