A lot of grumbling by some WVU fans about playing on the road at "small school" Ohio.
I suspect some of their fans have a bit of a complex about their status in the football pecking order right now. In basketball, a couple of decades or so ago as you probably know, they stopped playing us for a different reason.

They are one of those universities that needs a higher level conference for effective recruiting because there is nothing for them in-state. I would note on over on the recruiting board we have won out against them for a few players.

Not really sure why some are appearing to look down on a football program that is on a higher level.

Tickets at Peden for this game will generate a large amount on the secondary market due to size and the WVU fan base, which is very rabid as long as the game is within a tank of gas and a case of beer.

colorado and I may be the only folks on this board who remember their first visit to Athens, a 12-0 shellacking in the storied 1897 season. Here's hoping for a repeat.
Sorry OCF, I’m not quite that old, but I’m sure you remember it.
I’ve got to ask - have you made your hotel reservations for all the WVU games?
Since I live in Athens, I don't have to make hotel reservations for home games. ;-)

I should clarify one thing in my first post on this topic for those not fully attuned to 19th Century scorekeeping. In 1897, a TD counted five points and the point after goal was one point. So, a 12-0 score was a full two TD lead.

During that period, when we played them multiple times, it seemed we were beating them enough to make them uncomfortable about the continued relationship. Admittedly, this conclusion may have been based on speculation by Bobcats fans, so perhaps I overstated the situation, but the circumstances certainly suggested it.

Thanks, colorado. But, why the "emeritus" tag? I haven't retired from BA yet, though some might prefer if I did. ;-)

That status is on shaky ground originating from SEC expansion.

That's been my impression. WVU seems to have its sights set on the ACC but the ACC seems to be standing pat, concentrating instead on a scheduling alliance with the B10 and Pac-12. If the B12 breaks up, WVU, TCU and maybe Iowa St might be left out in the cold by "P" conferences -- Kansas and K-State seem in line for the B10 and the Pac-12 could take 2-4 teams, but WVU likely wouldn't be one of them. Any leftover B12 teams would be welcomed into the American because they could help elevate the conference into a "P".

I wasn't around back then, but I'll happily spread the tale that WVU is scared of old OHIO.

Getting a little off topic but in an 8 game series with 3 at home and 5 at WVU, Ohio split it and they haven't played us since. I think that lately Ohio basketball has had bad luck with its heath. The last relatively positive year injury wise was, I think, 2015. But none of the past few years have been so devastating, except for maybe the fact that when Tony Campbell went down for the year that one injury by itself was pretty devastating to that team, where the team was just in a state of utter chaos figuring out who to play where. In 1997 OUr basketball team had the sort of injury plagued season that maybe only happens every 40 years or so. If you can't remember that then think of the 2012 football team. It was kind of like that. That was a long time ago and I don't recall a lot of the individual names or circumstances. I don't remember specifically how heathy Ohio was against WVU in 1997 but WVU was quite good. I was surprised in looking at this that Ohio "only lost by 26." We had been a good enough program in the early-mid nineties that we had a home and home with UK where, of course, the home game with UK was in the 97-98 season. Kentucky beat us pretty much as badly as Tubby Smith wanted to.

You know, Jeff, I had this theory about our win over Pitt in '05 -- that when the Pitt players got off the bus in Athens they looked around and thought "What are we doing here? This is worse than Morgantown." It would be good if the WVU players have similar thoughts in '25.

Then we gave them that confidence boosting TD on the runback of the kickoff. They probably thought, "Boy is this going to be an easy win in this little bush-league town."

At $50 a ticket for season tickets, WVU fans will buy season tickets just to get into this game. There will be no single game tix available and the rest of the season will be empty seats. Ticket Office has a couple years to figure this out.
Easy. Renewals are grandfathered in at one price, new season tickets much more expensive. Then offer discounted "5 game season tickets" after the 1st game, which happens to be WVU. Then go back to more normal pricing in 2026. You're welcome.

P5 team (for the moment, anyway) coming to Athens? Better make this one High School band day too!

Genius. Filling the seats with high school bands will prevent WVU fans from taking over the stadium. We are playing checkers while the athletic department is playing chess.
