Fire him now, worst coached team I have ever seen in my life.

This looked a lot like the Lichtenberg era. That was a lot of bad football. The last two weeks have felt similar.

Can Boals coach football, too? He can at least recruit top talent.

Best thing for Ohio Basketball is that we hey should be getting all the funding now.

Lichtenberg could coach. He had nothing to work with.

He was forced upon her by Frank. She couldn't go against a "legend," particularly when she was/is hoping for a major donation from him.

Agreed, we are about to pay dearly the next three years related to loyalty.

He should have been named interim! As soon as he was hired I told my friends we just made a horrible mistake and it’s going to be Knorr 2.0. In fairness the program has been in a gradual decline for a few years and what it needed was a jolt. To make a multi year commitment was a horrible decision. OU could attract a high quality FCS coach or a major coordinator.

She had no choice. He wouldn't accept interim and we couldn't fill the position so late. Frank did us no favors.

I don't know what this regime is going to be but one thing for sure this is cheapness in the extreme to not bring in a new staff.

With Ohio already on the ropes financially, this is surely a bad time to go recruiting for new coaches.

Extremely sad, it took him all of 3 months to run this program into the ground.....To elevate this idiot to Head Coach was absurd but it right in line with the same history that Ohio has repeated far too frequently. When Grobe left for wake forest it was the same crap. Elevate the next loser on staff to destroy whatever was built before him.

She did have a choice. She could have made someone else the interim head coach.

If that is indeed true, that’s extremely disappointing to hear.

Yes, Frank did a lot for this university but this university also did a lot for Frank.

How large of a gift is he going to make? It would have to be pretty darn big to let him call the shots like that IMHO. Large enough to risk lots of other sources of revenue as well? Because most donors don’t wanna support losing and poorly run programs.

This coaching regime is not likely going to end well.

So let me get this straight: Frank is gonna pay back OU a huge amount of money that he earned winning football games by turning the Ohio program around just to get Tim Albin a head coaching job?

I'm sorry I just don't buy that.

If Frank is going to make a gift it better be very large because right now we are on the Titanic and we are sinking fast. In three months our current staff has managed to destroy whatever Frank built. As others have pointed out, attendance is going to tank quickly and along with that donations to the program, and a following. Barring a miracle, Louisiana is going to humiliate us next Thursday on National TV and we will then manage to make Northwestern look like a national contender the week after that. What a disaster!

That’s some nerve to insert common sense and logic into it when we are having a pointless and irrational emotional meltdown here!

Folks it might get so bad that Ohio has to pull a Kansas State when they brought back old man Snyder after the Ron Prince disaster. I could absolutely see Ohio begging Frank back.

To have any chance, Albin needs to get rid of Collins. Ohio had only three second half possessions today, thanks to the signature Collins defense!

Touching on a few things in this thread:

1. Who really cares about how he talks in press conferences? I mean, you have to really try to ignore the other issues to focus on that one.

2. Solich stepped down too close to the start of fall practice to give the job to anyone else but Albin. If you didn’t know that Solich was always going to reward Albin’s years of loyalty by ensuring Albin would be the next head coach, you haven’t paid much attention to the type of person Solich is.

Did Solich know farther in advance that he wasn’t going to want to coach this season, but waited until it was too late for OU to go in any other direction? Others may know that answer, but I don’t.

3. After being forced to go to Albin, a multi-year contact was OU’s only option. An “interim” tag would have made recruiting this year an absolute impossibility. Unless you wanted to see this year’s recruiting class be even worse than those in recent years, this was the only direction to go.

How's recruiting going to look with a guy who just lost to a lower-division team and has a four-year contract? (Who would want to come play here?!?)

You’re talking about something we know now, not something that was known at the time the decision to hire Albin had to be made. And I’m not 100% certain how this season’s performance will play out in the minds of recruits. I am 100% certain that no recruit worth anything would commit to a program that has a coach with such low certainty of actually being there when they arrive on campus.

You mean the MAC Championship Program that the former coach had going?

He left the cupboard bare.

Sorry, very few OHIO players recently are 1st team all MAC. There is a reason for that, whether players don't want to come to Athens or whether just poor recruiting there simply is very little talent to work with the last few seasons.

Just look back to the early Frank years and recall the names of our players, the teams had numerous highly skilled on the field. Not recently. And when was the last Spring where Spring football was full tilt with hard banging during the big scrimmage. All great athletes are MADE in the off season. OHIO has to water Spring down so as not to gamble on injuring the several who are important to the current teams.

The program did not go downhill since a new coach was named.

If the board had let may CLASSMATE remain on the board you would have all been hearing how far the football program had slipped in the last 4-5 seasons. Add to that no objective media telling you what's going on and you get MANY HERE concurring that the new guy is 100% at fault. (Personally, I'd have hired a hot shot high school coach and paid him $100 grand plus performance bonuses and maybe OHIO wouldn't be OH and Two and be stuck for the next four seasons--did anyone ask Burrows if he'd like the job?)
