Ah, let's just give up, drop to D3, or give up football entirely. We can then put a lot more money into basketball and become the next Gonzaga and have some extra left over to finance scholarships for potential Rhodes Scholars!

Both are more likely outcomes then competing at this level of football. Neither is very likely at all.

That nobody can seem to articulate why we should continue with the status quo says a lot, no? And what's actually being advocated for is that we outlay half a million dollars during a budget crisis to get a headstart on a status quo that nobody can justify.

A coaching change needs to happen and a national search needs to start immediately following the season.

I remember those who didn't want to part with basketball Coach Saul Phillips because they didn't think the next guy could improve on what Coach Phillips accomplished. I think it is safe to say that Coach Boals has done that. I would be willing to bet if we brought in an accomplished Division II or III coach, he could do better than what we have witnessed this season. I am certainly not one of these guys who wants to compete in the college football arms race, or pump millions into Peden Stadium with an unrealistic expansion. However, I am also not a masochist. I can't take witnessing the success and the talent that we saw the last few years, which was picked in some circles to win the MAC this year only to deteriorate to the charade we were forced to endure this season. This is truly Billy Hahn territory on a football scale, an acheivement that is hard to match.

Excellent - you each put up $1 million and we are good to go. Otherwise we will wait until 12/31/22

So let’s wait until December 2022 to look for a new coach.

I'm with you, Doc. As I've been saying for awhile this season has that Lichtenberg/Bryant kind of feeling to it I suppose if we turn things around and win all our remaining games, I might reassess, but at this juncture I do feel that the House that Frank Built is in grave danger. As I said in another post, a friend of mine who attends most practices feels like bobcatblitz does and sees improvement and light at the end of the tunnel. So far I have not.

Great - Galla, OCF, Doc - we wait on you to inform us how to make it happen from a financial perspective. Vision and planning. Lay it on us. Don't be vague ("need to get it done"), don't be unrealistic ("Get Frank to Pay") and don't be dismissive ("others can make it happen, just find some alums to pay for it").

Vision and planning.- can't wait to hear.

As I've said before, Frank got us into this mess, he can get us out. That's not unrealistic at all. He would have to admit his mistake, but I don't see that as impossible. He certainly doesn't want everything he's built to go down the drain. Maybe he sees promise that we don't see, but if he doesn't, I'm sure he'd be willing to dig the program out of the hole.

How much is O.U.'s annual budget ?

I don't know about Ohio.

But, in NJ, universities can transfer funds, including as a "loan"
between departments.

Albin's buy out is a "drop in the bucket" in the overall
scheme of things.

If they wanted to, the A.D. and Board of Trustees could put their heads together and fund Albin's buyout.

I just don't think there's a lot of interest in part because doing the buyout means admitting the A.D. made major mistake with Albin.

What an amazing and colorful dumpster fire this has become. We have gone from dreaming of a MAC championship to being content with just barely hanging on to beat that team from Oxford. This whole thing is becoming a bad joke without even a punchline.

dreaming of a MAC championship
This is the most unintentionally sad thing I've ever read.

That the peak of our program is described as "dreaming of a MAC Championship" is all the proof needed to know that this has always been a dumpster fire.

The reality is that a whole bunch of people decided they were content calling complete and utter mediocrity success, and now that it's been laid bare just ho w thin the line was between our delusional definition of success ("dreaming of a MAC Championship" for 18 years) and complete irrelevance we want to throw more money down the drain.

Sign me up for whichever alternative is not doing what we've been doing. Because what was the point, exactly?

In fairness that wasn't the reason people wanted to keep Saul. At the time, we never really saw what he could do with a roster that wasn't riddled with either massive key injuries (Campbell, Carter, BVP, Dartis, Laster and Block) or transfers out (Taylor and Simmons). The recruiting took a nosedive and Ohio had to rely on guys who were expected to be role players, not every day starters. We all knew Ohio could be better than what we were at that time. Say what you want about Saul and his staff, but Jason Preston and Ben Vander Plas don't come here without them.

Just like no one that I saw ever criticised Coach Phillips as a person, he was just out of his element in this part of the country. The same could be said for our present situation with regard to football. With the kind of season we are having compared to expectations, we will soon be competing with the likes of Ashland and Ohio Dominican for talent, rather than Miami, Toledo and Buffalo.

Hypothetical--what if the 'Cats go 9-5 next year, don't win the MAC, but win a bowl game. Do you still feel the same way? The only unacceptable answer to me is "it won't happen."

There is a logical problem here. You ask a hypothetical question, and then give an answer that is outside the parameters of your hypothetical.

I was just thinking the same thing, with one twist, do you think our AD will still feel the same way? Because it doesn't matter what the 4 or 5 dozen active posters (self included) on this site think.

The "hypothetic" is also very real. We get Florida Atlantic here to open the season - their first game without Perry - a 4 year starter at QB. Add in Fordham and we are 2-2 heading into MAC play. We could easily be 3-2 in the MAC right now with a winnable BG game to play. So getting to 5-3 next year is not a high hurdle.

I think you could take "this season" and apply it to 2019 as well. The word I think of when I think of the last few years of this Ohio Football regime is "Stagnant", and I know I'm not the first one to say that.

We also said knocking off Duquesne was supposed to be easy.....there are no gimme games on our schedule anymore. Take the W's where you can and pray that 12/31/22 comes fast enough. Because I am not writing a check for a million to buy it out and if we need to be frugal, we're waiting until then.
