Saturday, April 9, 2022 1pm to 4pm

We are planning a full afternoon of activities, including a team scrimmage, halftime honoring Coach Solich, and a Marching 110 performance. Hot dogs, Kona Ice, Mr. Softee, games and giveaways will be available for fans.

OHIO Athletics invites you to join us at Peden Stadium on Saturday April 9th from
1-4, to honor and celebrate the 16 years that Coach Frank Solich led the OHIO
Bobcats! His time included eleven bowl appearances, four Mid-American Conference East titles and a Top 25 ranking. The scrimmage will start at 1 p.m. at Peden Stadium and is open to the public.

Come on out to Peden Stadium to cheer on the Bobcats in an open scrimmage.

There will be members of OHIO Football Alumni that span across Coach Solich's legacy

Sounds like a fun event, more so than most years' spring games. I trust this will eventually be promoted beyond just slapping it on the university calendar.

Yeah, probably a press release the afternoon of April 8th.

Hopefully it somewhat resembles an actual game this year. The last several, in my opinion, have looked more like practices with an ever so slight, almost non-detectable, game-like flow to them. Maybe I expect too much.

I stopped having any expectations for Ohio Athletics a long time ago.

The nature of the event is usually determined by the ability to field two competitive teams, based on injuries. It's not like a regular season game where you might play through pain or minor injuries, though. you don't risk further problems for what amounts to some dog and pony show glorified practice in the spring.

I understand this but it seems like other programs are, with rare exception, able to pull it off. I think they all have 85 scholarships if I’m not mistaken. I can’t help but wonder if we are more injury prone, if our depth is so shallow we want no risk at all to anybody, or maybe something else?

I can't believe that the administration honors Frank at the spring game not during a regular season game! Really

Me, too . . . seems it's the least they could do for such a longtime fan, with 44 years straight of season ticket purchases.  cool indecisioncheeky

I wonder if this is where they’ll make a big announcement that as a gift and thank you to Ohio University, Frank and his wife are personally financing the replacement of the playing surface, To be ready for the beginning of the 2022 season.

Good luck with that! This is a celebration of Coach and his contributions to OHIO Football. Not an announcement of a turf project that he's funding.

They are naming the field after him. It’s going to be something like Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium is my understanding.

Yeah, I reported that last month. But it's not like the aforementioned poster who said it would be because of Coach paying for the field. It's in honor of his contributions on the field, not from any donation.

My father has been dead 21 years ago today. Way to keep it classy.
