The stats are much better. But, it is about scheme and personnel. Maybe ours was not as good as theirs.
No doubt it was "scheme and personnel. That leads to the question, was the scheme worse, the personnel, or both? Next year, Ohio will presumably have the scheme that Miami used, so we'll find out how Ohio's personnel compares with that of Miami.
Seeing how the scheme last year, was/is basically the same scheme from when Frank was the coach, I would say, a lot to do with personnel, personnel either NOT matching the scheme, or just personnel period.
Perhaps. Yet, two different coaches running the same scheme with the same personnel will not necessarily get the same result because of individual play calls, and because of adjustments. And certainly, two different coaches running different schemes will get different results, even with the same personnel.
I have no opinion on whether the new coaches will help or hurt. We will have mostly the same players, so we will get to compare the results and see what happens.
Edit - To clarify, in my initial post, when I said "was the scheme worse, the personnel, or both?" I was not comparing Ohio in prior years to Ohio in 2021. I was comparing Ohio in 2021 to Miami in 2021. Miami got better results, but was it personnel, or scheme, or both? You had both a different scheme, and different personnel, so it's hard to know the reasons for differences.
Next year Ohio will presumably use the scheme that Miami used in 2021, which will allow two separate comparisons:
1. The first will be to compare Ohio 2021 to Ohio 2022. Will the change to the coaches and schemes, but mostly the same personnel, make things better or worse? 2. The second comparison will be Ohio 2022 to Miami 2021. In the second comparison, you have the same scheme, but different personnel. Were Ohio's personnel able to run the scheme as well as Miami's personnel?
