I'd be shocked if the results were any better. Albin is completely incompetent and in miles over his head. Disastrous decision by the University to have hired him in the first place.
The timing of Frank's retirement left the AD with limited options.

That being said.

My opinion is she should have named Albin "interim" Head Coach.

Give him a year to see how he does.
Especially since his staff and his players, at least on offense were already in place for the season.

People here have said he wouldn't accept it.

That's where you need an AD with enough backbone to say "take it or leave it".

Its not like people have been knocking down his door with HC offers, since he came here.

He refuses, fine, name someone else on his staff interim for a year.
Couldn't have turned out much worse then last season.

This season will let us know if/ or how big a blunder Julie made.
I don't think he should have even been hired on an interim basis. A coaching search could have been done and a quality candidate found. Would it have been a rough few seasons.....probably but isn't that what we ended up with anyway?
It's been one full season. I'll revisit this statement at the end of the year.

I'm not an Albin defender but I also don't have a crystal ball.
And nor do I. I hope I am proven wrong but I've seen absolutely nothing yet that makes me have hope.
I hope we doubters are all proven wrong this season.

UAB is in pretty much the same position as we were last year. Long-time UAB coach (he stayed even after the football program was ditched for two years) Bill Clark suddenly retired at the end June over chronic back problems. He recommended the OC, Bryant Vincent -- who's been at UAB five of the last seven seasons -- to replace him and Vincent was named interim coach with a search at the end of the season. It'll be interesting to see how they do this season.

I'm not too sure how I feel. If I recall about the contract that was posted last year, the university basically has an opt out following the season. If they don't, I think they've got him for two additional years. I worry about a season that seems pretty good, but not great. Then, does the university feel that Albin is owed the chance to get his next two years?

Ditto. I have no opinion at all how this season will go, save one. I think that the defense will play harder, and better, and as as consequence, Ohio will be in more games, and will have the potential to win more games. One more? Enough to justify keeping Albin? I have no idea.

Great decision.
Now it's time for the Convo floor to be named The Gentlemen Jim Synder Floor. GO BOBCATS
+1000 to both!
You simply cannot play good basketball on a Synder surface.

My opinion would be to name the Convo floor after Danny Nee. He led us from the future that never happened. Without Danny Nee and the job he did for OHIO it could have been OHIO becoming BGSU and their 30+ year history.

OHIO basketball became really bad after Snyder until Nee and the program could have remained that way forever without the Nee touch.

No way they could do a coaching search 6 weeks before the first game last year.

Great news. Well deserved. Unfortunately Lower.com already has a deal with the Crew. That’s an OHIO company. Would be cool if something could be worked out with those alums.

Ed Orgeron, late of LSU, where honorary OHIO alumnus Wm. Tecumseh Sherman was the first president.

Edit: Thanks for all of your lessons on BA related to various civil engineering topics. We are all better for the instruction you've given. It's really nice to have someone on BA who knows what they are talking about.

Coaching ability aside,Ed Oregon would definitely bring a different dynamic to the sideline and press conferences.

Let us not forget a great football coach who had 2 undefeated seasons, led Ohio to the 1960 college division national title and won at least 2 MAC championships. That coach was Bill Hess. Why was he forgotten? The field should have been named after him decades ago. I love Frank as much as anyone but?

I agree that something needs to be done to honor Bill Hess. He would have had even greater success if his career had not been cut short by an aggressive form of testicular cancer. We would also not have had Cleve Bryant as coach and would not have sufferer through the Wilderness Years of Cleve and PaPaL. It was my junior year in high school when we had the 1960 undefeated season. OHIO was quite the juggernaut that year. One game late in the season was against the number 2 team in the college division, as it was called then. This was Southern Illinois. I don’t recall the exact score but OHIO won in a rout. I think we scored about 50 points. It was an over capacity crowd with fans literally standing in the aisle.

I sit close to Bill Hess’ daughter at Peden. She is a real true fan. She yells and screams almost as much as I do! I’m sure she would be thrilled if something was done to recognize her father.

But, all that aside, it really is high-time that he was given his due. Maybe they could name the end zones for him. I’ve heard of that being done somewhere, but I can’t remember where.

Won 4 MAC championships - we haven’t won a championship since his last one in 1968 (as we all know too well).

Albin is a total embarrassment to the University.
Agree 100% ,but obviously O.U. didn't see it that way since they didn't buy him out and instead chose to keep him for this season.

Hopefully he communicates better with this players and staff and we don't have the same disaster of season as last year.

Boy that is a great idea. Fire an entire staff in July and build an entire new staff of 10 coaches, and implement a new system in 7 weeks. Not to mention you would be paying 22 coaches! Frank and his 10 assistants who were under contract, and the New coach and his 10 assistants. This is just a brilliant idea!!!!

The timing of Frank's retirement announcement didn't leave the A.D. with a choice.

As I posted at the time, I think that was the intent.

We'll find out in a couple of weeks if the decision to Albin was the right one.

It's a well known fact the AD had little choice. What other option was there. Regardless, the timing of Frank's decision left no one in a good situation. Only thing Frank's decision changed was his place of becoming the MAC coach with the most career losses to go along with his place the the MAC coach with the most career wins.
