Positives include no turnovers (there were quite a few that came close), not all BUTM plays,making all field goals so far this year. Way overwhelmed in talent in this one.

That's an understatement.

PSU used their backup QB for pretty much all of the second half.

Lost count of the number of times the announcers harped on how "young" PSU's team was including true freshmen.

Glad I spent most of today in the ER finding out that maybe my wife didn't have a heart attack after all. I got to miss most of the postings on this thread.

The fact is, this game really wasn't unexpected. Penn State is probably the best team we'll see all season. They completely dominated us on offense, defense, special teams and coaching. Next week is another game, likely another pasting. Such is life as a G5 team.

Idk if anyone noticed but we didn’t give up a sack until late 3rd quarter I believe. We had 4 against their first team…. Yes it wasn’t close but there were positives

Yikes! I hope she's okay!

She seems to be. She woke up with lower chest pain, sweats, and BP and heart rate thru the roof. But all her EKGs and blood work have been okay, the pain has subsided and her vitals have been normal since late morning. She'll probably stay overnight and see a cardiologist tomorrow. Thanks for your concern.

Honestly this game could have been a lot worse and weirdly I feel better about the rest of our season (maybe with the exception of Iowa State next week). The speed of #10 really killed us, but I don’t think we’ll have to worry much about facing any players of that quality the rest of the year.

On Nov 17, 1973 we scored a TD on our first possession, Penn State then put up 49 straight points, and Ohio ended the scoring with a 57-yd FG by Gary Homer in the last five minutes of the game (I think). It's still the longest FG in Ohio football history. There should be a 50th anniversary celebration of that kick next year.

After watching this game and sleeping on it I came up with a few thoughts I wanted to express to all on this board.
1) It appeared, to me, that we were a little nervous/scared.
2) We played poorly in all 3 facets of the game.
3) PS controlled both the offensive and defensive lines.

Summary....If we can come out of the OOC games with a 2-2 record we are improving over last year.

I don't think we looked nervous at all. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of turnovers, offsides penalties, etc. that usually result from nerves in the early going.

I think we were just overmatched physically, and Penn St had deeper depth and better coaching. Their O line overpowered our D line; their QBs had great protection on pass plays (most of the sacks were coverage sacks) and opened nice holes on running plays. Our D whiffed on too many arm tackles. We had a couple trick plays that worked okay, but had trouble with their defense straight up.

A real positive was fewer penalties; just three compared to seven last week. All-in-all, we didn't beat ourselves but were just plain whupped by a better team.

I don't think their Oline overmatched our D line at all. We got 5 sacks, and they didn't exactly run roughshod between the tackles. Them beating us to the perimeter was where we had problems. Not only did we have trouble tackling, but we were just way out of position trying to catch singleton whenever he bounced outside. that let to bad angles and no margin for error.
