As a fan of the Bobcats I am willing to be open to closing the books on last year and giving the staff a fresh start BUT with a short chain.
OHIO cannot control the degree of excellence their opponents bring to the field on game day. If Florida Atlantic beats the 'Cats because they have superior talent then bully for Florida Atlantic.
What we need to see from this game is extremely sound fundamentals of making first contact tackles and swarming to the ball. We need to see an offense that is well organized, free of but minor confusion and appears confident. We need to see competence in protecting the QB and minimizing the effects of surprise defenses that may be thrown against us. The special teams must be competent with no unforced errors.
Play sound fundamental football and let the better team win. Take the teaching moments as opportunities and improve from week one to week two in all categories and all individuals; players, coaches and bench jocks, all.
Going into PSU and ISU games the goal should be to continue to fundamentally improve, sharper and crisper execution of the offensive and defensive game plan. Again, letting the better teams win if they are truly better but an appearance of the Bobcats as being ready for the Kent State game and the MAC beyond.
If a team can look good and lose to superior talent that should give us hope that the program is headed in a better direction.
Go Bobcats, clip the Owls!
