+1 for the most innovative score prediction. A win like that would certainly improve our scoring defensive statistics. :-)

I don't think anyone had posted that the paw is back for a week. https://twitter.com/OhioFootball/status/15777203526287728...

This is such outstanding news that Alan Swank has decided to endow the entire athletic department with the largest gift in OHIO athletic department history! Who knew the humble high school yearbook salesman was that loaded. His only conditions are that the the PAW replace the AttackCat and that we embrace “Ohio U,” so as not to upset the O$U fans in Akron and Cleveburg.

It looks like Ohio only wore a white helmet with a green paw for the year 1978. The paw was on the helmet from 1978 to 1994 which defines the extended dark age of Ohio football between Hess and Grobe. I came into school with the paw and left with the attack cat but hope we aren't summoning demons.

I would have preferred the helmets that Bill Hess' teams used to wear.  There is also another one that preceeded this one that had large green stripe from from front to back.

We did that in 2018 which is probably why it is the paw this time.

Perhaps, but I think it was Alan Swank's pending transformational donation to the athletic department! ;-)

I feel optimistic today, which hasn't been good recently.

With that being said, I think we eek one out today...

If the Bobcats defense is ever going to move towards respectability this year, i dont see a better week on the schedule. The Bobcat are last in the MAC in so many defensive categories. They give up on average 80 yards offense per game more than the 11th ranked MAC team. They are last in points allowed per game at 42. They have played five games and do not have an interception, the only team in the MAC with that distinction.

The Bobcats have allowed at least 300 yards passing in every game. That might not be the worst thing but they have weeks where they are also torched in the running game, allowing over 300 yards rushing last week versus kent.

Akron is averaging 15 points a game. The Zips rushing yards per game is last in the conference. Akron has a solid MAC passing attack and have scored around 25-28 points per game against teams with more evenly matched talent like that FCS squad or BGSU.

One feather in the Bobcats' cap defensively is the pass rush and Akron, for the fourth? straight year has the worst pass blocking in the league.

Hopefully we can get some pass rush, create some turnovers, and keep the passing and rushing yards under the season average 577.

Ohio's offense should be able to have success on the ground which would help if they can dominate time of possession.

Fingers crossed for a great defensive showing today.

Another impressive game by Rourke - 24/27, 427 yds passing, 3 TD's passing, no interceptions, a big keep run for a 1st down. Currently #14 in the country TTL passing yrds.

5...I don't know if it is the DBs that are bad or the scheme. We are consistently 10 yds off the ball and back peddling at the snap when 7 yd outs are thrown. Can we please bump somebody at the line and throw the timing off a bit? Also, did I miss something this week? Seems like a lot of new players on defense. most of the linemen and backers/safeties look small to me and I think there are numbers I haven't seen much? Is this to negate the speed of Irons running or maybe I am missing something (did not have a roster to look at)?

ESPN3 announcers kept referencing Ohio's depleted secondary. I think Torrie Cox, Zack Sanders and Tariq Drake were all out.

My biggest take away, the RECEIVERS on BOTH teams played awesome! No drops and did some excellent sideline patterns.

The Zips receivers on several longer post patterns played like they were keeping the DB off the boards like playing hoops. Getting tackled immediately but no chance for the DB to make a play on the ball.

I thought Zips early play calling left points off the board.

Need more pass rush, Irons had all afternoon to find open receivers. Considering that, the DB's gave up no big plays. Irons looked like a upper level MAC QB in this one. Just not the top guy like Rourke!

Coach Albin explained it after the game. We have several guys playing out of position, especially in the secondary. Their strategy was to never let a receiver get behind them (as happened against Fordham).
