The only good thing about this post...the number of people who have signed back up to BobcatAttack.com to post about how stupid this thread really is.

I've always found it funny when people protest sporting events by BUYING A TICKET and then wearing a paper bag, walking out, etc.  So Love, I recommend you really stick it to the athletic department (and do us all a favor) and don't buy a ticket and stay home.  I'm sure you and your $10 will REALLY be missed.

I wonder if any La-Lafayette fans will pick up on this walk-out threat?  They may remember that Ohio barely eaked out a win over them a coupla years ago down there...and may wonder why an Ohio fan would think we're too good to play them.

Pete, you do know that Mr. Gish died in a tragic accident on Wednesday?

I will be ceremoniously walking out of the Louisiana Lafayette game on October 30 in protest of the quality of football schedule that has been forced upon our fan base.

Since this is about what is being "forced upon our fan base,"

I will only respect your action if you hold up a huge sign that says, "Hey Players.  It is not about supporting you, it is about entertaining me.  Therefore I am leaving." - then send each player a note signed with your full name reiterating it is about you and your entertainment/satisfaction.

Here is why our schedule is right for Ohio.  We need to build a winning tradition.  That means playing enough games we have a realistic chance at winning.  Ohio has a chance to go to a bowl game with this type of schedule and going to bowls on a regular basis helps build the program into a constistent contender in the MAC.  Miami and Toledo have no chance at going to bowls with the schedules they play.  Ohio has a legit shot at its first 10 win season since 1968.  That would open a few years around the country. In football its not about rpi. Its pure W's. Doesn't matter if we play Eastern Oklahoma Tech. Its a win and it counts just the same as if we beat Alabama.  The odds are far better playing Louisiana Lafayette than LSU and playing Wofford than playing Va Tech. We have a better chance at going to a bowl than Michigan and Notre Dame this year with out schedule. We did exactly that last year.  How far did Notre Dame and Michigan get with their schedules last year. Not as far as the Bobcats. We were playing in a bowl and they were watching us on TV.  The only reason to walk out is to beat the traffic when were up 56-6 in the fourth quarter with a minute left and the Ozone had done the winning team-losing team chant and the band is tired from playing after all the touchdowns Boo and the boys put up on the other team.

Hey Egomaniac,

As you are disrespecting the players and walking out, make sure to purchase your pretzel  so that you can report to us all if it is over-salted or under-salted.   We all (every darn one of us) care so much about everything you do and say.

Sept for that whole pesky rule that says wins over FCS shools do not count towards BCS consideration.

Are you serious? A Sun Belt opponent isn't good enough for one of the Cats' fans?

These two leagues are completely competitive to each other. The champions of these two leagues played each other just a few months ago in the GMAC Bowl and the game went two overtimes. Ohio played UL-Lafayette just a couple years ago and it was a 1 point difference. I've followed every MAC - Sun Belt matchup in recent years in all major sports and the two leagues are quite equal in my view.

Also, Arkansas State, a second-tier Sun Belt team last year, lost to Iowa of the great Big 10 by just a field goal in October. The same Iowa team was ranked #4 in the BCS in November and missed winning the Big 10 title by one game. Not too many MAC teams play one of the highest rated teams in the country that close.

There is nothing wrong with MAC football, but MAC fans certainly shouldn't be thinking they are somehow much better than other FBS conferences that they complain about scheduling them.

By the way, I went to the OU-Lafayette game a few years ago and the Cajun folks there were absolutely the nicest and greatest people. They had a tailgate at the stadium that seemed to have 50,000 people. It was incredible. Everywhere you went, the locals invited you into their tents to have some gumbo, shrimp, crawfish etoufee, jumbalaya, and anything else they had on the tables. They couldn't have been more gracious to the people from Ohio. I sure as the devil hope that Ohio fans return the favor to the Ragin Cajun fans who come up for the game and not be like Buckeye fans who love to insult and badger their opponent's fans.

DXer, yours is a voice of level-headed reason. Were the geography not messed up, there are a couple Sun Belt teams I wish Ohio were aligned with. And there are a couple others that the geography isn't messed up with that could be a bridge to the others. I'd take Troy (messed up geography) any day! "Bridges": Middle Tennessee, which would be in the mix for the MAC football title (as would Troy), and Western Kentucky (which would be a nice addition for basketball).
I didn't have the privilege of going to Lafayette for the 'Cats' game, but I was hovering around their athletics site a lot ... and sensed a lot of Ragin' Cajun pride!

The truth is, when the word "sucks" comes to mind, sadly it's a descriptor that could be applied to the football fortunes of OUr team during a majority of seasons since 1968. We were a "bottom feeder" of the MAC, and had the Sun Belt existed, we'd have been a "carp" there, too.

We will be undefeated at this point, ranked somewhere in the top 25, and I will watch the entire game.  Watching one ranked team in a game is above average to what we have watched in the average game this last decade...  Not sure why anyone would be disappointed with this.

My guess is that some where amongst these team's fan base we would find some that would want to walk out should their ream have to travel to play a team of our historic fortune:

Florida State
North Carolina State
North Carolina
Syracuse
Iowa
Purdue
Michigan State
Penn State
Wisconsin
Nebraska
Tennessee
Texas A&M
Missouri
Kansas
Kansas State
Texas Tech
Boise State
Oregon
UCLA
Oregon
LSU
Arkansas
Auburn
Alabama
Virginia Tech (could have solved this whole problem already)
Mississippi State
Mississippi

The interesting thing here is the asymmetrical logic. If is appropriate for Ohio fans to walk out against Louisiana-Lafayette, then conversely, should Ohio schedule one of the teams Love wants, they should expect to see their fans walk out at the thought of having to watch Ohio.

Will the Shoe be empty when the Bobcats face OSwho? Were the few empty seats in Knoxville last year a result of similar actions by UT fans? College football fans love college football. Smaller schools or smaller programs do not automatically make for a lack of ability or desire to win. Example: Northwestern is always very competitive in the Big 10, er 11, er 12. Getting to Athens hasn't changed much in the last forty years that I've watched the Bobcats. It is still a long bus ride from anywhere including airports. We should be thankful for all those that will journey to our beautiful neck of the woods to play a lifetime .500 program.
