... Boykin looked like the real deal in the spring game.

I remember when he was recruited, even though he was a surprise to all of us, I was very impressed with the film footage of him. I'm no expert at evaluating high school film, though. (It's amazing, now that all the actual history is gone, how accurate my old forecasts are going to turn out to be).

Here's hoping Boykin has a great season, and can carry the load.

shhhh,  Some on here call me Mr. Negative, however I root for the good guys who do it right :)

Currently we have a good line of former players in the last 20 years making a mark in the coaching profession.

Is that the Appalachin pronunciation like Nerk (Newark).....Porchmuff (Portsmouth)........and Arnton (Ironton)?

Doc, I'm ashamed of you . . . you should know that there are no vowels in Iroton.  It's pronounced: "RNTN!

IMO the craziest pronunciation is "Porchmuff".  If someone from there could explain that to me...please do.

No one there sez Ports-mouth...............most say Ports-mith----but the tobacco chewin yokels of the hollars (I mean hollows) of Clay Township (like Twin Valley) say Porchmuff.

That all depends.  Some say ARNTON, but the really hardcore, back in the Lawrence County boonies types pronounce it, I swear, without any vowels: 'RNTN.  You have practice to say it. The sounds all come from deep in your vocal cords.  It doesn't come naturally to most folks.  You must remember that I lived in Lawrence County for four years, so I've heard all the various iterations of the pronunciations of the county seat.  See, I thought Doc would use the "hardcore hilljack" pronunciation and not the slightly cityfied version you hear in inner city Ironton!

Made inner city Arnton quite afew times....even took a course or two at the Ohio branch campus there......but the times I made it out in the netherland regions of Lawrence Co. (like a swimming party at a gravel pit or 2) I was always skerred.

Well, I was slightly skerred when I taught a class -- in two different quarters as I recall -- at the inner city branch.  This would have been in circa 1972, when I was a full-time faculty member at Marshall and was doing a 'lil moonlighten' :-)

Anytime the Hookfin era comes up I'm always reminded of the wood cut outs (a la "D" and a section of fence) of a hook and a shark fin that someone toted for every game on the tower side of the field...Good times...
