I was very disappointed and upset during halftime of the OHIO UNIVERSITY - ohio state football game in 2008 when the MARCHING 11O wasn't allowed to march at halftime.  I wrote a letter to the OSU athletic directors and got no response.  I'm guessing that the same will happen this year.  I hope that many-many BOBCAT fans will write OSU -  and now is the best time.  As I mentioned to OSU, our BOBCAT MARCHING 110 has Ohio kids who should be able to march at halftime in Ohio stadium.  They should scedule their honoree ceremonies during another game with a school from someplace other than Ohio.

Reports are that the 110 will in fact be marching at halftime this Fall.

Wow, assuming that this ends up going through, that is great news.

I think it's usually determined by them having alumni band day, which is always during a non-conf. game.

Yeah that was the excuse the last two times we played A&M.  Funny how with all the home non conference games they have to choose from, it worked out that way...

Whether we like it or not, we were probably the "least marquee" of their home non-con matchups both seasons. Regardless, I believe they did allow us to perform at the half and postgame in 99.

It would be so unlike us to take a situation that doesn't work to our perfect favor and blow it into a massive injustice.

I'm not sure how I feel about the 110 feeling entitled to play at halftime tOSU's home game at the Shoe, and slighted when they don't. Personally, I really am not super interested in seeing an opposition's band in Peden during halftime when we play in Athens. Because I want to see the 110. And for that reason, I can't blame tOSU for feeling the same way.

As much as I would love to see the 110 at stupid nut playing at halftime, it is there game and field.  We have no right to belly ache over this one.

I'm honestly not trying to make a big deal out of nothing here guys...Just stating facts.  First...No the 110 did not play halftime in 99 either.  I know...I was there drinking in the stunned silence and under breath grumblings resonating from the hordes.  Second...All other visiting bands play at half time.

I'll chalk the previous slights up to coincidence if indeed they are invited to play halftime this year.  This actually looks promising as it appears they have the TSBDBITL reunion slated for the
Marshall game this year.  Personally I'm shocked that they're going to cost the crowd a rare chance to see those sweet hats in action but who am I to question?

All other bands DO NOT play at half-time!  the visiting band NEVER plays on Homecoming and Alumni Day, and in 99' it was their alumni day.

Quality of entertainment issue:  Gripe about quality of it at Peden (where are the BCS opponent games?!) = gripe about lack of 110 at columbus.

If OHIO performs at halftime, do you think they should dot the 'i' or the exclamation point last?

John...

Wow...Apparently I should have worded this differently???  Obviously visiting bands don't play Homecoming anywhere and I thought I made it clear I was referencing the "coincidence" that both times we've played them; Alumni Band Day was conveniently scheduled on that date.  I’m talking about non special event games…

I'm honestly a bit surprised at the kickback here but to each his / their own.

Like I said I'll be happy to chalk it up to pure coincidence when I see the 110's feet on the field during half time on Sept 18th.  If not though, I’ll just have to assume that Ohio A&M’s Administration is a better judge of talent than the Macy’s Parade Selection Committee and I’ll have to make due watching TSBDBITL execute Michigan’s Script Ohio (sans State) for the umpteenth time.

I can not believe you just compared this to the Love's ongoing rants.  Good Lawd...I thought this was a forum for discussion.

whether or not visiting marching bands usually play at halftime or not it would certainly be a nice gesture to all of the OHIO fans if they let the 110 play this year. Although our football programs may be mismatched (we'll still beat them though) there's no denying that OHIO has one of the best college marching bands in the country and many of the fans for both schools know this and would appreciate seeing them perform. And seeing as how too many of our alumni support their athletic program over OUrs, its the least they could do for us.

I was very glad to see this post, and I'm thrilled to read that they might actually get the chance to play this time. I've seen the 110 play in Morgantown, Blacksburg, and Knoxville, and for me it's great to see our band out there in a huge stadium showing the world what they can do. I'd like to see them at the Skull Session @ St. John's Arena before the game, but that might cut into some serious tailgating time (being a noon game).

I'm in the 110, and we WILL be performing at halftime at Ohio Stadium.  Just to prevent further arguments.

Bobcat36, this is the exact quote to which I was refering, I was simply clarifying the standard procedure.  Sorry if I offended you.

Maryland, I suggest you start the tailgating earlier, maybe say Friday evening, and try to catch the skull session. Love or hate TBDBITL the sound and the quality of the sound they produce in St. John's is simply outstanding. They (their band director and fans) were quite gracious to the 110 two years ago and I'm looking forward to it again this year. Keep in mind the 110 and TBDBITL are two completely different style marching bands. I for one think it's quite allright to acknowledge such and appreciate what both bands produce each in their unique way. I also think it's fantastic that the 110 will be performing at the half this year. Can't wait!!

While it's disappointing to the OU faithful that we could not see the 110 at half time in 2008, those of us who stayed for the post-game show were delighted as were the many scarlet clad fans that stayed. It's their call since it's their house. I do not think for a moment that there was any conspiracy to stop the 110 from performing. Just the luck of the schedule and nothing nefarious whatsoever. Bands scratched from halftime shows anywhere are entitled to be pissed.

Sometimes you just have to be bold if you want to get a point across here.

tOSU gave the 110 a full seven minutes at halftime.

I will break the news that the 110 will be rockin' Ohio Stadium to Van Halen / Van Hagar.  'Dreams' and 'Panama'.

tOSU marching band will follow with an electrifying rendition of Beethoven's 5th and maybe a show tune or two.

I'll take the marching band 'W', because we ain't getting the football one.

(Cue the 'We're gonna beat OSU' threads)

Disagree with you on both points: 1. I do think that when an opposing team's band comes to a game they should perform at halftime (can't remember a time when an opposing school's band wasn't allowed to play at Peden at halftime); and 2. I do blame OSU for not letting us play at half the last two times we brought the band to Cowtown.  I'm very HAPPY that we are going to play at halftime this year.  (Bet there's an interesting behind the scenes story about how this came about.  Don't have any inside information, but I'm just saying that I suspect that this didn't happen solely because A&M had a change of heart and decided to let the 110 strut their stuff at half.)
