Wow.  I guess I wasn't prepared for STO to be the Akron football network.

Not far from the case, smart move by Akron IMO.

Would like to see Ohio (and other MAC schools) try and formulate something like this.

Agreed.  From what I gather from the releases, those games Akron negotiated independently will be produced by the school and merely broadcast by STO, thus making it a relatively cheap arrangement for STO, I would think.

This is something I was working to organize with the head of the VisCom department my senior year.  I brought a similar idea to him to work on with the Telecommunications department and the other communications departments.  We have highly regarded and nationally ranked communications programs, so why not put them to work on a project like this?  I can tell you as a former VisCom student, I would have killed to work on something like this while still in school.  We'd be giving students real world experience that they would have trouble finding elsewhere.  I'm not sure if any of you have seen the Soul of Athens project, but it's a joint project between the School of VisCom and the School of Telecommunications, and I believe with input from the School of Journalism.  It is scheduled every spring quarter as a class that students take and work on the project during that period.

Why couldn't we start a class in the fall with the purpose of producing a football game for STO?  Throughout the quarter, students could shoot different bits around campus promoting the university, give an inside look on how the team has developed, create graphics, write stories, etc.  It could be a great opportunity to promote the university and get some students some valuable real life experience.  I can guarantee you that most of the professors would rather participate in a project like this than teach just another class.  I'm hoping to get together again with the head of the VisCom department, and maybe I can use Akron as an example and present the opportunity of STO that wasn't there while I was in school.  If anyone has some input on ideas just message me.  This could be a great opportunity for everyone involved and I would love to see this happen.

We had this at one time, but it left with Derek Scott.

Not sure where the anger is coming from. Of the schedule STO announced, the Bobcats are only playing on 4 of the 6 dates and of those 4 games I can completely see why Ohio wasn't selected for any of the STO broadcasts.

9/11 - Ohio is playing a night game against Toledo, which is the same time as an Indians game
10/9 - Playing BG, but it's the same day as Akron/Kent State which is an ideal broadcast for a station based in NE Ohio
10/23 - Playing at Miami, they should show this big rivarly game but instead are showing Akron (and a game that is being produced by Akron...maybe Miami was offered but they couldn't produce it.)
10/30 - Playing a non-conference game against ULL
Good point, everyone got mad over nothing.  Contrary to popular belief, these  TV deals actually know what they are doing and have much more info than we do.
