This idea of not buying a ticket to support your team and the university simply because you don't have the best seat in the house, is outrageous! It is about the tailgating, the atmosphere, sitting in the Ohio section, and watching the game with people that love OU as much as you do. I am pretty sure I am in the last row of the stadium and I couldn't be happier. It is worth every penny of the 75 bucks! If you want to improve your seats, increase your support of the program and give to the bobcat club. Ohio State fans would jump at the opportunity to sit in that last row and watch their team!
People have come on here wondering and complaining about turnout of Ohio fans at the bowl game or other events. Now we know why that is! Ohio fans would rather sit at home and watch the game on tv their than sit in the dreaded upper deck. I would have given my left arm to be anywhere in the Dunkin Donuts Center for the Georgetown game and witness that moment live. I am not about to take the chance on missing a possible upset of the bucks.
At least it sounds like we have sold a lot more tickets for this year's game than we did for 2008. I can't wait to see all that green in Ohio Stadium. Sorry for the rant, but this really just rubbed me the wrong way!
VoR hits the nail on the head here. As I stated in the other thread that was discussing our volume of sales of our tOSU ticket allocation, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that we can't sell our full allocation or draw in casual fans for a larger event like the MACC or a bowl game (GMAC or LCBP) when we can't nearly give away tickets for a home game at $5, or a family of four can buy an entire season package for $99. (not to dismiss people complaining about $5.00 parking for eff's sake)
In my 44 years of being an Ohioan by birth, and observing Ohioans from afar for the last 18 years, most people in Ohio (not from OHIO, although I will include most of those people as well)
love a WINNER, and that is why they will follow tOSU like it is a religion, while they only have a passing interest at best in Ohio FB.
Want another example: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Back in the day (am I that old), you NEVER would have seen Steelers merch to the degree you now do in stores in OH, and on the backs of MANY Ohio residents. Why? Because the Steelers win the Super Bowl, and while the Bungles and Clowns BLOW year over year. "So", says the populist Ohioan, "time to root for the nearest winner."
Let's face it, Ohio FB blew for a long time, and that is most Alums memory of FB at Ohio. Going to games at Peden and leaving after the 110 performed WAS the tradition, not staying to the end of games to observe mostly hard fought victories for the last 40 years. While most OHIOANS hold diplomas from (or attend) another institution of higher learning, many of them just aren't that interested in supporting the Cats, at least in person. This makes me sad, but hey, people have a lot of choices on how to spend their discretionary income, and they can't all be as true to their school as I wish they could.
If I had a dollar for every Ohio alum or student that thinks it would be "neat" if Ohio beat tOSU on the 18th, but in their hearts really think OUr men have no chance (somewhat evidenced in the Prognosticator thread) and will really be rooting for tOSU in their heart of hearts on the 18th because they believe they will feel better at the end of the game, it would make for a nice deposit for a bubble to put over the Peden turf for winter practice.
Having had the good fortune to attend the Georgetown beat down in person and having the opportunity to spend quality time with a few loyalists like The Love, Pete, Tim, Dragon and Suga Fries, I can tell you that we need more of them, and fewer of the non-fan followers.
I now relinquish the soap box.
