so a little info please...who are your primary weapons on offense and defense and what are their main strengths???

Offense:

Receiving:  Marin Bota is probably our biggest deep threat.  He's always a threat to leave defenders in the dust like he's on an airplane back to Croatia.

Running:  Antonio Chatman is our go-to back.  He's got this patented little skip-hop-jump thing that he does that drives defenses absolutely batty.  You simply can't stop him.

O Line:  Delvar Barrett is our best lineman and can deliver a pancake block on just about anyone at will.  He has the foot-speed of an Elephant, but don't let that fool you, he's got the right stuff.

QB:  Geno Ford is definitely one of the best leaders we've had out there.  He's got some decent arm-strength, but he really shines when running the option.  His best move is to fake the pitch, tuck it and run to the sideline... then, just when the defense is about to hit him, he hops out of bounds and calls time-out.  It throws the defense off every time.  Your boys better be ready for that one.  He's also been known to run out the clock in an entire half by running around the backfield until the clock strikes 0.

Defense:

D-Line:  Ken Ottrix fills out the D-Line.  He's a little lanky for a lineman, but don't worry, he can bring it on every play. He may look a little confused out there, but don't worry, he's just lulling your offense into his trap.

Line-Backers:  Johnny Jackson is also an absolute ATHLETE.  The Boston College transfer may be one of the most athletic athletes that have ever participated in an athletic competition between athletes.  He may simply just jump over your line on a blitz... or, he may not... it's up to him... but don't forget how athletic of an athlete this athlete is when he wants to be athletic...

Secondary:  Sony Troutman is a master at the takeaway.  You simply have to keep the ball away from him... if you get too close it's game over.  Also, keep an eye out for James Bridgewater.  Pure athlete, and a perennial fan favorite, but usually ends up in coach's doghouse.  When he's on the field he can jump out of Peden Stadium to grab an INT, chances are he won't know what to do with it when he catches it, but that's besides the point.

Kicker:  Bubba Walther is our kicker and boy does he have some range.  Bubba has been known to sneak into a huddle on 2nd and 4 on the 50 just so he can try and drop kick a 67 yard FG.  It doesn't always work, but when it does... it's amazing.

I think that's pretty much it.  Did I forget anyone guys....?

Maurice Pearson should see some time at QB. He's got an absolute gun for an arm.

I'm also looking forward to our two JUCO transfer wide receivers, Bert Whittington and Allen Hester. They should be going deep on every play.

Anyone know if Marquis Horne is ever going to play? He's always made big plays in spring ball and scrimmages, but he can never get on the field when it counts.

gee, wally. our guys can't do any of that stuff!   it'll be ok beaver. just close your eyes til it's over.

thanks athensblock. a lot of uh...um...helpful intel there. sounds like the "fantastic eight" there here to save the day again!!!  at least i have some names to look for.

i'll make some introductions:

QB- #9 mitch allen, uns the option extremely well.
FB- #7 eric breitenstein is our hop, skip and jumper
HB-#20 mike rucker is very quick with some break away speed
WR-#10 brenton bersin will catch the 10-12 passes we throw per game...lol. he is tall and has deceptive speed
OL- #78 pat illig pancake blocker supreme, all 6-5 320lbs
DL-#'s 90,94,96 and 98 roseborough, pall and goultry will be in your backfield applying pressure all night (ihope)
LB-#'s 45 mike niam and 47 keaton thompson will introduce themselves

we suffered 8 acl tears last year and numerous other injuries taking out defensive and offensive leaders, which led to a horrible 3-8 season. somehow, using some kind of black magic, our marketing guys were able to piece together a highlights video. this is only half because the original had the audio disabled on youtube. enjoy...

just havin' some fun.
we are just a little ol' school of 1450 kids and 52% of them are WOMEN! but we field some decent teams in our male sports...even went to the BIG DANCE this past spring! we just want to come up there to have a good time and leave it all on the field.

really looking forward to a great injury-free game!

i said we were fielding some good teams...i never said we were giving them a good place to play... ;) it doesn't have to be nice as long as you're winning!!

hard to justify building a new basketball arena when we can't sell out what we have. we don't get any local support. most of them are south carolina and clemson fans. we have fewer living alumni than you have students! yes fewer living alumni....only 14000!  i did enjoy a game this past season where south carolina came to wofford for a game and it was standing room only with 95% carolina fans.  we beat them!!!! it was great watching all those fans that didn't come to support the home team walking out with their mouths hanging to the floor in amazment and disappointment!!! LOL!

crabby, I can identify with you.  I remember back in the 1970s when the Evil Empire (aka Ohio State University) played a basketball game in Athens.  We packed the Convo, and about 40 percent of the fans were for the Cowtown (aka Columbus) boys.  Ohio won and it was surprising the number of those rooting for OSU who by the end of the game had switched their allegiances. I'd say that the 40 percent had shrunk to 15 percent by the time the final buzzer went off.  Interesting what winning can do!

P.S.  Some of the guys in this thread were playing a trick on you.  They named a bunch of idiosyncratic basketball players from the last decade or so and projected how their skills would translate to the football field.  It was all kind of funny if you knew who they were talking about.

I watched that basketball game.  I'm one of those guys who really pulls hard for the upsets of "power" schools by those who do it with less money and more teamwork.  I was pulling hard for Wofford in that one, and was really happy they pulled it out.  I can imagine the atmosphere in there must've been incredible!

it was definitely louder than normal! the game that was incredible was in jacksonville, fla when we played wisconsin in the 1st round of the ncaa tourney! that was incredible!!! wofford had about 500 fans in arena (which is good for us) and by the end of 1st half, 90% of the people there were cheering for us! we exchanged leads with the badgers all through the 2nd half and had the lead with less than one minute and our guard dribbled it out of bounds with 17 sec left. they were up by 2.  we fouled and they made both shots...won by 4. very exciting!!!

I really hope it works as that intersection has been a drag on game day and rush hour traffic for years but I also wonder what will happen if an accident occurs and ties up all three lanes? Bleachers would be good. Will their be a retaining wall and screen fence ala NASCAR?

I've never had any problems with the traffic light on game days. Not so sure about the roundabout? It seems very small. Afraid there will be a major traffic jam on game day. Add to it the fact that all highways leading into Peden have been reduced to one lane for construction which looks to me as if it's not near completion. Went around Athens on Saturday morning and there was a major traffic backup on 50/32/33 and there was nothing special going on that I know of.

I always thought that the main problem was on the other side of the river.  I don't know how many people have noticed, but there is no left hand turn signal as you are headed down Richland Avenue from town turning onto South Green Drive.  Seems a ridiculously busy intersection not to have all 4 directions have a left turn light.

WR:  Steven Coleman and Jay Kinney are our two best receivers.  They can always find the green in the open field.

ILB:  Armon Bassett is one hell of a linebacker.  He'll come up and hit you in the mouth every single play.

Maybe we shouldn't tell 'em about our secret weapon: Mr. D.J. Cooper.  I especially like the play where he lines up as the QB in the Wildcat . . . er Bobcat . .  flea-flicker formation.  After a pitch to the HB, he goes down the field and catches the pass from the HB.  He then flicks the ball over his head in a perfect lob pass to a WR who is running down the field just behind him and slightly to his left.  He always executes this play flawlessly, but probably the best execution of it was the last time we played an FCS team.  It's now often referred to as the Georgetown Massacre.  Beware of the Killer Cats you Doggone Terriers!
