So should we out-of-towners avoid the roundabout area on Saturday? Has construction been completed on the intersection/bridge, or should we come into town via another route?

Thanks...

Only avoid it if you don't know how to drive it!

I'll second what Wanamaker said. I spent my summer in Athens and the roundabout posed me no problems. It is much more efficient than traditional intersections if used correctly.

I would avoid it Saturday because its "move-in" weekend.  If you know a different way to get near Peden, take it.

If it weren't for the open container bust, having a cool one and a lawn chair by the roundabout might be an entertaining pre-game option.

I was in Athens about a month ago and they were telling us that the roundabout was about to completely open, so I have to figure the construction there is finished now.

While the roundabout may be finished, the road off the hwy to it was under construction last weekend. I came off 32 to that exit (682?) and it was a wreck.

In addition, the bridge was being worked on as well.

Looks like it will be a new "entrance" to our great university. Should be nice.

Even if it works perfectly, what % of people will complain?

If it doesn't work well, expect the end of civilization and many threads about OHIO leaving the MAC for the Big East.

Oh.  Wait.  We'll get those threads regardless.

With all the traffic of move-in day and a home football game, it would be better to get off the highway at Stimson or State. Avoid a headache.

By all means, I think we should take advantage of the free entertainment.  Because it's a circle, logically, there are an infinite number of things that could go wrong.  At the same time, being a 2 dimensional circle, there is only one correct path through it.  How can this not be the pre-game highlight?

Last week I saw a bumper sticker that said "Pray for me, I'm driving the Athens roundabout."  I was speechless.

As I said in another thread devoted to this topic: A roundabouts are much more efficient than stop signs or traffic lights IF YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE USING IT KNOWS HOW TO USE IT.  The problem is that most American's don't have the foggiest idea how to negotiate one.  The locals are getting used to it now -- at least most of them -- but wait until folks from out-of-town descend on our fair city.  The mayhem will be a sight to see.

The roundabout at Richland and 682 is just an accident waiting to happen,   Then enjoy the traffic jam u will be sitting in after the wreck, been through it 3 times had close calls with people pulling out infront of me 2 times. I'm using Radford Rd from 32 to Route 56 to Union Street to get to Peden, From Columbus i would use The Plains 682 exit to Union Street,  But choose your poison, One things for sure you won't see me using it for any of the Ohio Football or Basketball games I attend. Who ever came up with the roundabout idea needs hung up by the toes.

I was in town today and went through the roundabout.  I fail to see the difficulty in navigating one's way through it.  I am booking a trip to Pinehurst in 4 weeks and they have one there with 5 exits.  It runs so smoothly.  I am sure the one in Athens will work once folks get used to it.  It will be really nice after football and basketball games with no light there.

Roundabout is awesome!!!  My average wait time through it is about 5 seconds.

Biggest thing to remember is YIELD does not mean STOP.

Studies show they are 75% fewer accidents and when there is its just a small fender bender since everyone is going slow.

So if you are wary, educate yourself:  http://athensoh.swagit.com/player.php?refid=01202010-29

A few weeks back I followed a car with one of these stickers as it chose the wrong lane going through the roundabout, and therefore had to cut across lanes (and cut me off) to exit.

Most people with that sticker need to invest in one more along the lines of "Point and laugh at me, I'm too stupid to drive through the Athens roundabout"

How was traffic around the roundabout yesterday?  Easier to get in and out or worse?
