Schaus found a way to save money?   Cha-Ching!

Yes, the $6 per game per diem for each cheerleader will save all of $36.

You bring great news!  Success!

If the university really wants to make this issue go away, they sure are keeping it alive by making some odd decisions (barring cheerleaders from going to football games and interfering with a private business fundraiser off-campus that features an individual no longer affiliated with the university).

We've got idiots in charge.  Typical slow to step up Bureaucracy, reactive instead of proactive.  This issue would be SO easy to turn into a positive, but that does require competency on the part of our administration.  We don't have that.

In his statement, Corriher said Athletics offered an alternative.

"From the beginning of Wednesday's conversation, the department made it clear that it would welcome an (Athens Red Cross) fundraising event at one of our next two home games," Corriher said.

The Red Cross chose the Bobcats Homecoming Game Oct. 16 against Akron as the venue for the fundraiser.

Kangaroo burgers with all the money going to charity.......sorry PETA.....just kidding.

Agreed here that we are seeing an over reaction especially on the grounds that are given.  However, I said from day 1 this was not funny to the powers that be, and the sad thing is a group of people have paid for this, and the idiot who pulled the stunt is basking in his 15 minutes of fame.

Granted it has been 8 years since I was on the sidelines cheering on the Bobcats and it might have changed...but what has been pretty consistent for away games is for 6 cheerleaders to travel- usually 3 guys/3 girls. This has been true for MAC and non-MAC football games.
Not sure about the reasons the team isn't heading to this game, but am hopeful that it isn't a long-term trend and we can have all the support we can get at each game to STAND UP AND CHEER!!! :)

+1 It's been awhile for me as well but I can't remember the last time I didn't see or hear cheerleaders at an away game having listened to or seen most away games - always listening for my old cheer buddies.

Come on Steggs, the 60's weren't THAT long ago...

All jokeing aside, it does bother me that an official athletic team is being punished for this.  Cheerleading is not a club sport, but an actual varsity sport....I wonder if the basketball team is going to miss it's trip to emu over this as well.
