Check out the Post article on the home page.

Rufus and the cheerleaders staying home again for the EMU game.

Sounds like a ridiculous punishment for people not even involved.

It also puts more focus on a situation that could die, but a continued cheerleader and Rufus no-show only exacerbates the problem (double word score for me using exacerbate in a sentence).

50 point penalty Doc since that was already posted at 10:15 this morning in the "official" Rufus thread.

With excessive exacerbation, you may need glasses I hear.

My point exactly......that thread should be dead.

The thing that wouldn't die....where's Dr. Kevorkian when you need him.

So that's what Christine O'Donnell was talking about on SNL:

Agree with you Doc.  Not having the cheerleaders there makes folks ask why not and it has to be explained all over again.  Can't wait to see all of the Rufus/Brutus fights uptown during Halloween.

As much as I am disappointed it sounded in the article like they probably wouldn't have traveled to that game anyway due to cutting costs.

That's a cover.  They would have been there if not for the Rufus Incident, from what I've been told.

Happy to agree with OCF here.  Perhaps a former or current cheerleader can cite the last time the cheerleaders didn't travel to a weekend football game.

Yea, it's a very big deal that we apparently have idiots in the administration.

it makes the idiots in the administration look like bigger idiots. everybody that knows about the Brutus incident knows that the kid wasn't a student and was banned. Punishing the cheerleaders just makes the admins look like they're too insecure to accept responsibility for what happened.

plus, Eastern's mascot made a funny video about preparing to do battle with Rufus that their fans seemed to enjoy. The best thing we could do to move past this incident would be to show up in force with the cheerleaders and a new Rufus. Maybe have the new Rufus and EMU's mascot choreograph some light shennanigans or something. The crowd would love it and it would look good on us. But no, the admins are too busy deflecting blame. cowards.

Great post perimiter.  Like someone said on a related topic, embrace it and turn it into a positive.  Heck we could probably get someone from the dance school to choreograph something before the school gets cuts by some of the folks that JH called out on this board.

Now if you want to see true mascot mayhem - check out the Seymour vs. Big Al video:

If a mascot is beaten on the sidelines and no fan is there to see it, does it make a sound? or something like that.

Granted it has been 8 years since I was on the sidelines cheering on the Bobcats and it might have changed...but what has been pretty consistent for away games is for 6 cheerleaders to travel- usually 3 guys/3 girls. This has been true for MAC and non-MAC football games.
Not sure about the reasons the team isn't heading to this game, but am hopeful that it isn't a long-term trend and we can have all the support we can get at each game to STAND UP AND CHEER!!! :)

Maybe Rufus isn't going because they simply don't have a new Rufus yet.  I wouldn't be surprised at this point.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the decision.

Why?  You're telling me it couldn't at least be a small insignificant PART of the reason?

This seems like a great lesson for the university to teach its students: We're going to punish student-athletes that had NOTHING to do with the incident. Why stop with the cheerleaders? Why not the 110? Trainers?

What other confirmation do you need? The university said they want to keep the focus of the game "on the field" -- whatever that means.

No problem. Good to know that we have some people on the board that want to make sure we're basing posts on factual info

Yes, the $6 per game per diem for each cheerleader will save all of $36.
