I've stated my opinion in another thread and took some heat for it but I repeat...the coaches and athletic department can stop this confrontations immediately by mandating that athletes to stay out of uptown bars.  I guess they did that for Saturday night and if they did that is a start.

And, give me a break...I'm not saying athletes won't drink (in or at PRIVATE residence parties), I'm not saying they can't have a girlfriend, nor am I saying OU should become the next BYU.  I'm simply saying that it is obvious there is a problem here and one way to solve the problem is to keep the athletes out of the bars.

Telling a team full of student athletes that they're staying in on a specific night due to an event like this that the staff is trying not to make worse is one thing. Completely over reacting and telling them that they can never attend an uptown bar again is another.

Nothing like solving a problem by causing a completely new one. This is like the parents who learn that teenage drivers are unsafe, but instead of setting rules and teaching their kids about safety, they just refuse to let them drive until they're 20 and no longer teenagers.

Really, I've read a lot of bad ideas on this board over the years, but this one might take the cake.

99% of the time these issues stem from jealousy against college athletes. This bouncer is probably some big overweight slow out of shape no talent wanna be high school athlete who could never ever play at the college level. And the only thing he has left is to try to justify his manhood by fighting someone who is living the dream of what he never achieved. Trust me I've seen it over and over. Jealousy.

It's a two way street.  There are bouncers like that, especially at Courtside.  At the same time, quite a few athletes do go out there with a false sense of entitlement (though from what I know of Boo, that's not him at all... but who knows about the others with him)

I do believe that it is no coincidence that it always happens at Courtside.  In my opinion (I'm sure many will disagree) it is easily one of the worst places when it comes to the importance of having an "in" with the bouncers and bartenders in order to get what you want. Very politicized atmosphere in there. I generally would go there early for pizza on Wednesday, then go somewhere that didn't suck later for drinks.

The fact that the owner's name ends in Cornwell shouldn't buy any more license than the fact that some of these kids have their names on the back of Ohio Football jerseys.  I only get back to Athens about 10 times a year and even I know Courtside has a bad reputation in this regard.  All assumptions aside though, we KNOW that bouncer has a bad history and record...We KNOW he and other bouncers took the incident beyond the door of the establishment...I've met Boo on more than one occasion and I KNOW in my heart that he is nowhere near the kind of kid that would instigate trouble, so if he was the one that took the brunt of the violence it's because he was targeted.

Cornwell or not...It's not a responsible business practice to put that kind of power in the hands of someone like this guy.  Being a bouncer takes great amounts of self restraint.  Strength yes...But it needs to come along with a larger sense of safety for all involved.  This business thrives off of the underlying cause of most of these incidents (alcohol) and as such carries the weight of doing it's best to ensure everyone's safety.  Hiring a thug like this is exactly the kind of thing a liquor license holding business operator can not do.  As such , the responsible thing for them to do would be to dismiss him immediately.

As many others have stated, my hopes and prayers go out to Boo for a full recovery...You don't see someone with his passion for and loyalty to both the team and the community very often and his legacy will be felt in this program for a very long time.
