First game I've gotten to see in entirety, and came away with some questions/thoughts:
  • Posey seems to be the target of choice for QBs. Is he struggling overall?  In my opinion he has been kind of suspect all year, basically is an up and down player.
  • Overall defensive secondary is a source of panic each time opposing QB drops back to pass.
  • Goulet had a particularly tough night. If I remember, he dropped 3 or 4 passes. Admittedly one of the passes he made a great adjustment to catch, but then dropped it. That ball would have given Ohio first and goal from about the 1. Was that just before half?  Yeah this is the worst game I have seen from him, I am hoping it was just the weather.
  • Our kick coverage was consistently awful last night. Our kicks didn't usually get beyond the 15, and our coverage didn't make a stop until near the 30.  OUr kick coverage varies from game to game and the conditions probably didn't help.
  • Kick returns were also a little disappointing. We didn't really make anything happen.  Without Lavon Brazill we really aren't dangerous on kick returns right now
  • Surprised by the quality of our offense last night. We seemed to really put drives together, and Boo is unquestionably a weapon--often making big yardage out of nothing. Can we win this game without Boo? In my opinion, that's MUCH harder.  Was great to see the success tonight, been making steady progress all year, our turnovers are really our only major problem left.
  • Run defense was beautiful. That set the tone for the whole night.  Defense has been slowly stepping it up, wish it was more balanced though.

All in all, we played a great game. These are just nitpicky comments.

I believe it was #77 (the Right guard?) coming across to the left side.  It was a great block.  the whole O-line has improved a ton since game #4!

Camera crews are usually independent contractors who travel to shoot games, and not necessarily employees of the network.
Yup.  Typically, though, the majority will travel with a given package (ie, the Tuesday 8pm game).  Lets face it -- the Tuesday night crew probably isn't an A+ crew.  Lots of weird switching errors in the game, too (half-cross-dissolved shots, etc.).

Also, welcome NIU.  I'm guessing if things fall as they seem they will, we'll be seeing you for the next couple weeks.  You guys have a very complete football team, from the games I've been able to watch.  If we do play, I think the teams styles should produce an entertaining game.

Yea, that would be an interesting game if it happens.  Should be a good matchup.

That would be who I would expect, since it is normally a guard that pulls on traps. I hope they show the rear view on the highlight film so that those who missed it can look at what we are talking about. The right guard pulls, and crosses right to left, perfectly timed so he crosses just in front of the running back, blowing the unsuspecting would-be tackler out of the way, and leaving a hole big enough that even I would have gained a few yards. In these days of zone-blocking, it's nice to see a good old-fashioned trap.

Can't believe this is happening, but I think R Fox's analysis is pretty much right on.

THE GOOD
Overally, we played very well in a big game against our toughest opponent of the year.  Our offensive line flat out blew them away.  Harden knocking people back.  Harden's balance (td 1 yd run in 4th quarter), same with Davidson.  Pretty good tackling and definitely flying to the ball; we knew the importance of the game.  Discipline in green vs. not discipline in mh55.  We must be coached well to tackle by going for the legs--good.  miami still sucks.

The hold back on gatorading Frank.  Was it Benjamin who could be heard telling the guys 'not yet since tonight doesn't cinch the East yet'?  (How'd OUr guys not all now that?!)

THE SLIGHTLY NOT SO GOOD

Given the magnitude of the game and TV and how well we played, these are minor, but worth mentioning...so we can keep getting better.
Temples' o-line blocked pretty well in pass protection.  Picked up a lot of our blitzes.  Disagree with most of you; our pass rush was not good enough, especially in 2nd half.  Boo's gotta get a little better at throwing it away.  Why bring Bates in before Boo's established a rhythm.  Bringing Bates in on our 2nd offensive play disrupted our flow.  Phil, if it ain't there, just do what ya can and go to the next play--can't reverse and get outside on good teams.   Seeing who we are now, what we have, I still can't forgive not having #8 in the game a lot earlier in columbus.  And how'd we lose to FATMAN and stupd cow?

They probably were going to do it because a Kent loss would be unlikely, and a Miami win against Temple is even unliklier. But it was funny to watch it happen, the only problem is it showed how overconfident we were to almost let it slip away.

Anyone else catch at the end of the coverage, it said "Thanks to the University of Ohio and Temple University" or something like that?  Trivial, but annoying.

OK...Let's keep in mind that Posey is almost lined up against the opposing #1 receiver and he's there for a reason.

Last night he basically gave up coverage on that late desperation TD which was clearly a lapse but many of the catches on him last night were perfectly executed patterns / throws.  That back shoulder pull up route is flat out impossible to defend when it's done right and Temple most definitely knows how to so it.

His role is a thankless one (which this thread bears out) but I for one am very thankful he's a Bobcat and thankful he's on the field!

And speaking of Joonie and the lack of big returns, does anyone have any insight into why he's no longer involved with that role?  I personally liked him back there...

Don't get me wrong Posey is a good player, but he is up and down.  Also if you think about it, the number of passes defended isn't always a good thing.  I have a DB on one of my deep fantasy teams because the opposing teams always throw on him, but he almost always gets the tackle afterwards, thus good points.

Here was his prediction for us at the begining of the year...

Dream season The Bobcats repeat as East champs, again squeezing past the favored Owls to pull off a 9-3 regular season, with seven wins coming in MAC play.

Buy that man a drink.

Some of this is difficult to believe.  And, of course, there's only one stat that counts.  But:

First downs--Ohio 14, Temple 21 (??  I thought you get one for every td you score...so we only had 10 non-td first downs?)...We passed 13 times, Temples passed 49 (4-1 ratio!)...Ohio total yards 282, temples 402...We only had 4 pass completions (is that true?!).

The numbers are from ohiobobcats.com official game stats.

I honestly feel like it's a different deal in college than it is in the pro's in that regard.  In college more teams than not have a single dominant receiver who they'll attempt to throw to regardless...

You're RIght On Football Jim.
An OIUTSTANDING WIN AND EFFORT BY THE BOBCATS!  You hit it right about the preparation for the win - hat's off to the Coach Solich, the coaching staff and players.  Even the osu followers that I work with were impressed by the BOBCATS!
ESPN did have me ranting, stomping and shouting things when they didn't go to the game.  Why the damn interview with the coach, a damn tape of plays and comments from the lady broadcaster when we're missing the kick off!!!!
Yes, the coverage wasn't there when we had the 31-0 lead - would liked to have seen better-tighter coverage.

Thought our O-Line and D- Line  were outstanding!  Graet to have the O-line back  -  hat to lose that D-Line.
But I got faith in our coaches to put one together for 2011.
GO CATS!!  I sure want to go to Detroit!!!
