I guess we need to follow the LaTech/Nevada game on Saturday J.C.......a Nevada win could put them in the Las Vegas Bowl and if that's the case then La.Tech loses and we might go to the New Orleans Bowl.

That's because the New Orleans Bowl isn't presently seeking an at-large team.  It is Sun Belt vs. C-USA, and both conferences are slated to have enough bowl eligible teams to fill both slots.  Now maybe the Sun Bowl will try to get UTEP, in which case the C-USA slot in the New Orleans Bowl could open up...

All I know is that their are three schedules being passed around the hill and three sets of projections on budget, and New Orleans is right there with New Mexico and Las Vegas.

It seems to me the New Mexico Bowl will be able to fill its spots from its affiliated conferences now that Boise State won't be getting a BCS spot.

New Mexico bowl set to announce UTEP against BYU. Looks like CUSA has made a trade with the WAC in case La Tech is bowl eligible. The Sun Bowl is making a play for Boise State and would work if La Tech is eligible. I'm not sure if the MAC would get this bowl or not if La Tech doesn't earn that 6th win. I guess anything is possible now as the old rule that a conference had to fill its own tie-ins was ditched.

This being the case, the New Orleans Bowl is a real possibility now and unfortunately one that would not create a great matchup against a Sun Belt team.

Are we really talking down about a Sun Belt school?  Since when did we become a power that can afford to look down at other programs.

J.C.W.:

I assume you are "in the know" on the three possible bowls; New Mexico, New Orleans and Vegas.  Thanks for the info.  If you get any other "hot tips", we all would greatly appreciate receiving them.  I know it will help me in possibly scheduling a trip to watch OUr Cats.  Thanks for keeping us all in the loop as much as possible.

Not that I know of, I am surprised because I really thought if any MAC schools were going to get better match-ups it would be the MACC participants.  As far as in the know, no one at the University at this time has any real idea of what is up, just some possibilities.  Need to mention that the possibility of staying home is also on the table :(

JCW...Thanks for the info.  I should take my earlier advice and just wait 'til Sunday for the announcements.  It's just been a slow day and I've gotten real interested in the whole thing.

New Orleans bowl is at least better than Go Daddy or Little Ceasar's which we've both played before. The opponent would be the SBC champ FIU and a winnable game for the Cats. New Orleans game is pre Christmas week and somewhere the Cat fans can get to more easily than New Mexico at least. My guess is New Orleans as Ohio has a very big basketball game against Temple in Athens the night of the Las Vegas bowl.

New Orleans is a great city to visit. Borbon street and French quarter have a great nightlife. I would guess we sell more tickets for this game than the others. Sun Belt and MAC are even. For a team that didn't win at Kent State with a MAC East title on the line we are lucky to earn a bowl.  We are likely the last team into a bowl.

If you play a bowl game and nobody shows up to watch, does that mean you really played in a bowl game?

FIU...god awful if the alternatives were any of BYU, Utah, Miami FL, or Fresno. If any of those were were offered up and we passed in favor of FIU - please don't let me find out. I'm begging you.

In my Jim Mora voice...."FIU? FIU? YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT FIU? WE DON'T SCHEDULE REAL GAMES, SO WHY SHOULDN'T WE PLAY FIU?"

If people start blowing their wad about FIU being our first bowl win (should that be the case)...I'm going to have to take my talents elsewhere, because that is the definition of accepting mediocrity.

What a system and University. We just strive to be average, and dammit we never come up short.

FIU. Man, I can't believe it's come to this.

If it's FIU, I want to bring in Chuck Amato to compete in a bench press challenge with Cristobal.

Oh, yeah, because bowl games are about our opponents.

Guess what? If we go to New Orleans we'll actually sell some tickets! I'll be able to go! And you can all make fun of me being drunk and making out with random chicks again! I'll even take everyone to the live sex acts club since that's an Ohio tradition (long story) ...

point being, you need to focus more on the opportunity to enjoy a cool city with stuff to do compared to the alternative of Detroit.

Agree with the Love on this.  If we have a shot at either Sun or Vegas Bowl, I'll take either of those over anyone from the Sun Belt Conference in New Orleans.

Let's hope it's not the NO Bowl.  I read somewhere that their payout is only about $325,000, less than half the other bowls'.

Don't worry.  we are being passed over because we finished off the medal stand in the MAC.  Doesn't exactly give a team the cache to control where you are invited.

I suspect the team strives to be more than that, and that is what the bowl is about.  Not the system, not the University.

For the record, I had a great time in Detroit. That part of downtown was nice. The bar near the field we visited was cool, Casino, easy to get around on the train, reasonable hotel rates, and hanging with two of my best friends. The only thing missing was a good tailgate because it was too cold, but it was a great time.

Yeah, for me, Detroit is the most likely bowl I'd be able to attend. It is by far the shortest trip and I wouldn't have to take time off work. Wouldn't cost much to go. Definitely a lot more makeable bowl for me and I think for most people, even if Detroit isn't exciting. Anyone know how many Bobcats fans went to the GMAC compared to Little Ceasar's? I have to believe far more went to LC.
