This will be interesting. I'll be surprised if Fickell ends up at Wisconsin. Heck, he might go direclty back to OSU after they fire Day because he lost to Michigan twice in a row.

You're not far from the truth. OSU fans in my timeline were already talking about firing a guy who's gone 45-5. His only losses: two CFP games, two Michigan games and 10 win Oregon. Talk about pillowy soft. Buckeye fans don't even know how good they have it.

So, are you surprised? I know your OSU comment was sarcastic, but your Fickell comment was not.

Western Michigan has an opening ( and they just got a commitment 3 days ago from a 3 star from Ohio that we offered as well as Michigan, MICH St. Penn St, among others)

Georgia Tech had talks with Alabama OC Bill O'Brien, but talks have since cooled and they are now focused on Tulane HC Willie Fritz.

I really don't get that one. Program was a complete dumpster fire and Arroyo turned it around about as well as he could with what he had. Brink of bowl eligibility this year and they let him go.

They were 5-7, 4-8, 4-8 in the 3 years before he came and 0-6, 2-10, 5-7 with him. I don’t follow UNLV football and I know there’s a lot more than just records that the AD looks at so I really don’t know if this is right move or not.

G5 coaching carousel news: I'm told Ohio's Tim Albin is a candidate at Tulsa. An Oklahoma native whose team is 9-3 and in the MAC title game.

Tulsa is extremely interesting, but he's spent his last 20 years at Ohio... that makes you an Ohioan now. He's a different breed. Him and Burrow both.

At 57, finally with the job he has been waiting for for years, does he see himself retiring back in Oklahoma? What are his ambitions? By all indications it's to continue the tradition he helped build with Frank.

I would be extremely happy for him if he wants the Tulsa job and they offered it to him.

I knew it was coming soon. If we win The MACC, Tulsa won't be the only one coming.

That's my take on the man. I remember similar speculation during Frank's first few years. Many on this board thought he was interviewing for every P5 job that came open and was a football version of TOS. That turned out not to be the case. Now, maybe TA will be part of the "coaching carousel." That's certainly possible, but I wouldn't want to bet much money on it.

So instead of firing Fitzgerald, who’s making $6.5 million a year, northwestern fires 3 of his long time assistants. Let’s see how that works, but they have nowhere to go but up.

Well, he was interviewing for several years at every P5 job coming and going, that is NOT speculation, it's just a reality that you do not want to live in. As for Tim to Tulsa, if TS is on here saying this, I would take it seriously, and Tim's wife and extended family is in Oklahoma as well. At the end of the day, GO Bobcats!

Northwestern also got a $480m gift which will permit them to replace their aging Dyche Stadium which seats 47,000, with a newer, smaller one, which will seat 35,000, to be built in the same location. The size reduction gives a clue that they still suffer from an age-old problem. In a metro area with a population of nearly 10 million, Northwestern is irrelevant, and they can't get more than 0.3% of them to come to a game. As a comparison, Athens has a population of about 24,000. Just imagine what game day would be like with 72 fans in the stands.

Fitzgerald getting fired is about as unlikely as Kirk Ferentz firing his son Brian.

If Tim Albin does entertain the Tulsa position, this seems incredibly reasonable. They pay 3x+ what OHIO is currently paying him and he would likely get a multi-year deal with money that could certainly change his life. As of right now, he's guaranteed nothing at OHIO past January (though that should change incredibly soon), so he's essentially a free agent. This is a man that our fan base wanted gone just six-to-eight weeks ago, so if he has this opportunity, there's no guarantee it will ever come up again in his lifetime.

And, at one point can we stop waxing poetic of how coaches sixty years ago showed loyalty? The dollars were vastly different and the pressures were as well. No message boards, no national recruiting, no non-stop sports tickers and heavy boosters. This is a vastly different world.
