Detroit's Fox News 2 is reporting that RichRod was fired by AD Brandon this afternoon. RichRod and UM was definitely the marriage made in hell from the beginning.

Rodriguez can't beat a Big 10 team with a winning record...Fired

Golden can't beat a MAC team with a winning record..."Promoted"

And before anyone says it, they both took over empty cupboards...

He's next in line after the guy at Minnesota.

Michigan's AD watched game film with the entire coaching staff on Sunday mornings.

Good grief.

Name a successful coach that wants any part of that.

Ok. The 37 minutes thing didn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at Pitt either. Obviously, he's very familiar with recruiting in that area. It would sure add a lot to the Backyard Brawl.

Yep, same way Michigan fans wanted OSU to keep John Cooper and Bobcat fans wanted Miami to keep Montgomery.

I may live to have to eat these words, and I'm sure someone here will remember, but I think Hoke will do no better than RichRod at Michigan.  Just my sense of the man.  I think this job is too big for him.  Next year when he wins the so-called National Championship game in his first year, I'll be happy to eat crow.  It's not that I wish him ill; I just don't think he's a good fit at UMich.

A good fit?????  Do you talk/type just to hear yourself?  Brady Hoke is a Michigan Man, he has earned his stripes, he knows, respects, loves and cares about the tradition that is Michigan Football.  Not sure what "Fit" you are speaking of, but Brady has garnered a lot of respect in the halls of Michigan.  Now National Championships in year one is a real stretch, there is a lot of work to do, they have NO defense and lack a lot of personnel but Brady will be just fine.  Fit????

I think he is the right choice.  He will do well if given the proper time.  Good coach with his head on right.  I felt this was the only choice all along.  Should make the Big 10 a little more competitive in a few years.

Questions answered...

On a related note...Is this the single most salient quote ever put forth by Coach Miles or is it just me?

"My fondness, the lessons that I learned, the people I enjoyed back there, does not equate to a necessity that I coach there," Miles said. "Just because I'm loyal and care and recognize that the credential of Michigan really has marked my life, I can't go by the sincerity and the authenticity of the people that I represent here in the state of Louisiana. It's just too important."

He also has one less quarterback to deal with:

Miles is also making almost 2 million more than Michigan is willing to pay, we can talk all we want about the evils of the Big10 but the SEC is the leader in the football arms race.

I also heard him say "Michigan is no longer the place I remember".  I'll bet there are a handful of long in the tooth boosters who took offense when the job was offered to him the first time around...

Lloyd carr did NOT leave the cupboard bare at Michigan.  Please.  Players left for the NFL (Manningham, Arrington) transfered (Boren, Mallett) or couldn't hack it. Lloyd simply could get more out of his players, whether they were four  star or three star recruits.  Better coach, better results.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not defending Rodriguez (although many analysts would disagree with you about the talent left behind).  I was making a correlation in an effort to highlight how fickle college football is.  Golden is a hot commodity purely because the media says he is.

I just found out some interesting information about brady hoke(interesting for me anyway) that has made me an instant fan. He graduated from the same high school as I did. Kettering Fairmont East. I would love to say I knew him but he was in the class of 77 while I was in the class of 72. He is guaranteed to be an instant success.

MiChagan had talent, he ran off a a 2nd team all SEC QB in Mallett and proceeded to tell him he would never play for Michigan, he made two guys leave early for the draft because of the style of play he told them to bring and all Big 10 guard Justin Boren. So tell me that cupboard was bare!!!! Rich Wad was his own worse enemy! He in his three years had the NCAA on campus more times than in the history of the program combined.

This isn't even remotely accurate.  Rodriguez never told Mallett that he would never play for Michigan again, Mallett decided to transfer himself shortly after RichRod took over.  RichRod also did not "make" two players declare early for the draft.  That is absurd.

Most people that closely follows the Michigan program will tell you that the roster was devoid of impact defensive talent when RichRod took over.   So in that respect, the cupboard was quite bare.  Lloyd Carr's recruiting had fallen off in his last couple years quite significantly.  There is a reason that RichRod was forced to start mostly underclassmen and walkons on defense his third season.

That's not to say that RichRod's failings were all Lloyd Carr's fault.  Far from it.  But your interpretation of the situation simply isn't correct.

Mallett did not fit into RR program or plans, there was absolutely no incouragement to keep him, and the guys who went to the NFL did so largely because of RR.

Directly from Mallett's own webpage:  "As soon as Lloyd Carr retired and Rich Rodriguez was hired, Mallett's days seemed to be numbered because of Rodriguez's spread offense that has featured mobile quarterbacks.", call it what you want there was NO desire on RR part to keep Mallett.

Justin Boren's own press release:  At the time of his statements he drew a lot of ridicule, however as time went on his concerns proved to be valid!  And keep in mind that Justin Boren and his family were Michigan Men, as his father was a linebacker and captain at Michigan.

“I regret leaving behind my friends and teammates, but I need to stand up for what I know is right,” Boren said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. “I wore the winged helmet with pride, whether we won or lost, whether things were going well or times were tough.

“Michigan football was a family, built on mutual respect and support for each other from (former) Coach (Lloyd) Carr on down. We knew it took the entire family, a team effort, and we all worked together. I have great trouble accepting that those family values have eroded in just a few months. That same helmet, that I was raised on and proudly claimed for the last two years, now brings a completely different emotion to me, one that interferes with practicing and playing my best and mentally preparing for what is required.

“That I am unable to perform under these circumstances at the level I expect of myself, and my teammates and Michigan fans deserve, is why I have made the decision to leave. To those of you outside the program, the loyal Michigan fans and alumni, I know you will have trouble understanding, but I do want to thank you for your years of support. I wish my teammates the best and will always be proud to have been a part of Michigan football over the past two years.”
